Gentlemen, start your engines! No, you aren’t in Indianapolis (INDY 500), but instead in Louisville, Kentucky, at the Equip Exposition, an annual trade show for landscape and hardscape.  We cruised (or sometimes raced on a riding mower, thanks Kawasaki) the Expo as well as Hardscape North America unearthing trending landscaping tools and hardscaping products. As your self-titled ‘Trade Show Treasure Hunter,’ I’ll be taking you through products at various trade shows throughout the year related to home, jobsite, outdoor, hardware… and many more, so let’s get rolling into this one.

Green Machine Lithium Ion Battery and Gas Hybrid Zero Turn Lawn Mower

Green Machine 42” hybrid zero-turn mower

The battle between gas versus battery clashes on, with battery power and benefits closing the gap. Hybrid technology is a great bridge to this divide as seen in Green Machine 42” hybrid zero-turn mower that engages a sealed 54V Li-ion battery with a 4kWh gas generator, automatically switching between battery and gas to ensure hours of continuous mowing. Coming in 2025 as a solution to range anxiety, long charge times, and lack of power.

Irrigreen Smart Sprinkler for Effective Irrigation That Saves Water

Irrigreen Smart Controller 3

The grass really was greener in the Irrigreen booth. This next level, efficient way to water your lawn uses less than half of the water traditional sprinklers waste, I mean, use.  How it works is basically creating a dot to dot video game in a digital map of your yard with set up effectively ensuring nothing is watered that doesn’t need it. Smart Controller 3 is the most updated version, with a user-friendly control on the box itself, or the option to let Amazon Alexa get in the game by bossing it around to water the lawn.

Belgard Metropolitan Collection Contemporary Class: Melville Tandem Wall and Artforms

Belgard Metropolitan Collection

Their motto ‘Belgard Paves the Way’ lived up to the hype as their booth felt like walking into the outdoor oasis of tomorrow.  The Metropolitan Collection with its natural light, neutral tones and modern feel stacked out above the rest. As outdoor living continues to trend so does the need for easy installation of contemporary modular designs, and Melville Tandem Wall’s distinct chiseled stone texture is a solid fit for firepits, steps, walls, columns. Artforms is another impressive option with its clean lines and current aesthetic, great for outdoor kitchens, seating, planters, even rooftops. Panels are easy to install with minimal disruption to the property owner or waste.

Toro 900 CFM Battery Powered Leaf Blower Elevates Power

Toro 900 CFM Battery Powered Leaf Blower

And the winner is … for the most powerful residential leaf blower, Toro’s new 900 CFM Battery-Powered Leaf Blower. This race continues to be elevated in the battery-powered outdoor equipment arena. Paired with features like comfortable weight distribution, easy grip, and low hum, Toro, one of the leaders in this space, blew the competition away here.

Pine Hall Brick Rumbled Bluffs Clay Pavers Authentic Style and Quality

Pine Hall Brick Rumbled Bluffs Clay Pavers

The rustic look and dependability of clay pavers are timeless. There’s something to be said for solid clay pavers on walkways, patios, driveways, and more. Pine Hall Brick takes the look and design of clay pavers outside of the norm, with a variety of colors and styles. Rumbled Bluff captured attention with its antique reclaimed paver vibes.  Don’t let the antique look fool you, there is nothing aged or fragile about this finish, as they were simply tumbled after firing to mimic the look.

iQ Powertools iQ1550 Supreme Masonry Dry Cutting Dust Management

iQ Powertools iQ1550

Stone, brick, or pavers slice ‘like butta’ with the iQ1550 Supreme Masonry Saw. This saw cuts with the ease of a wet saw without the mess as it activates dry cutting technology with built-in dust collection management. Professional contractors are the audience for this new saw, which seems to be the key to faster, cleaner cuts to make the day go faster, and the dollars roll in easier.

Next trade show… Consumer Electronics Show in January 2025, stay tuned!

Professional OPE Brands

This list contains the most popular OPE brands used by professional landscapers and prosumers. The OPE products from these brands are considered professional equipment that can stand up to heavy, regular commercial use.

DEWALT

DEWALT, an American founded company, is most often associated with its power tool line for professional trade workers. However, DEWALT has expanded its products to include professional OPE equipment. One advantage of DEWALT OPE is the battery platform. Products of the same voltage requirement, whether they are power tools or OPE, can be shared. DEWALT is also a trusted and fairly accessible brand with wide availability for serious consumers.

  • Specialty: Professional power tool manufacturer with OPE line.
  • Price Point: $$-$$$
  • TIA Reviews: DEWALT OPE reviews.
  • View Products: DEWALT OPE.

ECHO

ECHO has been creating professional-grade OPE for over five decades. ECHO products are exceptionally well made primarily for professional use. However, the brand does make a few consumer models. While the OPE industry has largely shifted to electric, ECHO still provides a large variety of gas-OPE that professional landscapers still largely depend on.

  • Specialty: Professional outdoor power equipment manufacturer and supplier. Has a strong line of gas-powered OPE but a growing selection of electric-powered products.
  • Price Point: $$$
  • TIA Reviews: ECHO OPE reviews.
  • View Products: ECHO OPE.

Husqvarna

The Sweden-based OPE manufacturer Husqvarna is largely respected. While the brand does provide some consumer models, the brand’s products are largely intended for professional use. Like most professional OPE companies, Husqvarna still produces gas-powered OPE products but is also continuously raising the bar for electric OPE intended for professionals. The brand’s lineup of electric OPE showcases impressive power. However, that innovation generally places its products on the higher price end.

  • Specialty: Professional outdoor power equipment manufacturer. Provides a mix of gas and electric powered OPE, but is becoming a leader in electric-powered professional-grade OPE.
  • Price Point: $$$
  • TIA Reviews: Husqvarna OPE reviews.
  • View Products: Husqvarna site.

Makita

Makita is another popular name in the professional power tool industry, but the brand also has an extensive line of OPE products. Unlike most power tool brands that mostly provide electric OPE products, Makita still offers a fair variety of gas-powered OPE.

  • Price Point: $$-$$$
  • TIA Reviews: Makita OPE reviews.
  • View Products: Makita OPE.

Milwaukee

Milwaukee is one of America’s favorite power tool brands, particularly among “prosumers”, or everyday DIY consumers who prefer professional-quality tools and equipment. The advantage consumers have with Milwaukee, like other power tool brands with OPE lines, is that the battery platform is compatible with power tools and OPE products.

STIHL

STIHL was founded nearly 100 years ago in Germany, and over the last century has become a prominent name in the professional OPE industry. Similar to other professional OPE brands, STIHL still manufactures and sells a lot of gas-powered OPE but is steadily growing its electric line.

  • Specialty: Professional outdoor power equipment manufacturer and supplier and provides a mix of gas and electric OPE.

  • Specialty: Lawn, industrial, and commercial tractors and equipment.

John Deere

The first John Deere product dates back to 1837 and the company has been a household American brand name ever since. John Deere is largely associated with the agricultural and farming industry with its collection of tractors and farm equipment. However, its products extend to construction, golf and sport turf, electronics, military equipment, and beyond.

Do you love summer but want to take a break from the unrelenting heat sometimes? In 2014 we shared how Arctic Cove 18V Bucket Top Misting Fans offer an an affordable and portable way to cool off during your summer activities, such as sports games, yard work, or outdoor parties. The Arctic Cove fans have since been discontinued, but RYOBI Misting Fans have filled the void with multiple ways for you to cool off with a refreshing mist this summer.

The most exciting part about RYOBI Misting Fans is that RYOBI offers consumers two different models to choose from. Let’s take a look at what RYOBI offers.

But first…

“Did RYOBI Buy Arctic Cove Misting Fans?”

RYOBI didn’t have to. Arctic Cove and RYOBI are both owned by Techtronic Industries (TTI). This is why Arctic Cove misting fans were compatible with RYOBI 4.0Ah batteries. TTI appeared to just white label the fans with another one of the company’s brands.

Our 2014 article actually received a lot of positive feedback about the Arctic Cove fans. However, RYOBI is the number one homeowner/DIY’er power tool and outdoor power equipment (OPE) brand. TTI likely realized the fans would sell better under the RYOBI brand.

According to Reddit, the bucket top misting fan actually went between the two brands with RYOBI supposedly selling it initially. So, it’s not shocking the product ended back with RYOBI, which has expanded on misting fan options for consumers.

RYOBI Misting Fans

As we said, RYOBI has at least two different misting fan options, along with multiple packages for consumers to select from. Let’s take a closer look at the two main options.

RYOBI ONE+ 18V Bucket Top Misting Fan

  • Product Name: RYOBI ONE+ 7-1/2 in. Bucket Top Misting Fan Kit
  • Model #: PCL851K
  • Features: Mists up to 14 ft. for over five hours with included battery kit, produces 840 FPM of air velocity, has two speed and two mist settings, can be used with a bucket or garden hose, quiet WHISPER SERIES performance, and comes with a 3-year manufacturer’s warranty.
  • TIA Review: This kit is identical to the Arctic Cove misting fan. It even comes with the same amp 1.5 Ah battery but with a true RYOBI label. This should also be compatible with strong RYOBI batteries for increased runtime.
  • Where to Buy: RYOBI 18V Bucket Top Misting Fan Kit is $99 from The Home Depot.

RYOBI ONE+ 18V Misting Air Cannon Fan

  • Product Name: RYOBI ONE+ 18V Hybrid WHISPER SERIES 12 in. Misting Air Cannon Fan
  • Model #: PCL8501K
  • Features: Mists up to 15 ft. for up to seven hours with battery, or continuous with cord; has airflow of 1,400 CFM and 620 FPM air speed, features a pivoting head, two speed settings, and quiet WHISPER SERIES performance.
  • TIA Review: This model lacks the bucket top function, but is a larger RYOBI misting fan with a larger battery. This is a great option for people who plan on using this misting fan with a hose and is perfect for home use.
  • Where to Buy: RYOBI ONE+ 18V Misting Air Cannon Fan Kit is $199 from The Home Depot.

Already have a RYOBI battery? Browse RYOBI Misting Fan tool-only options at The Home Depot. You can find a limited supply of select RYOBI Misting Fans on Amazon as well.

More Summer A/C Hacks

The RYOBI Misting Fans are probably the best “portable A/C hacks” due to their design, price, and RYOBI’s dependable performance. However, we have a few additional A/C hacks for those trying hard to stay cool this summer.

Can you believe these A/C hacks? I think I’ll stick with getting a RYOBI Misting Fan this summer. Tell us in the comments what’s the craziest thing you have done to beat the heat.

DEWALT launched two new electric mowers this spring, one 20V and one 60V, with each DEWALT electric mower available in both push and self-propelled models. These mowers are part of DEWALT’s next generation of cordless mowers. These walk-behind DEWALT electric mowers are designed for homeowners and professionals alike. They provide exceptional power and reliably great performance, even on the most difficult lawns.

We were lucky enough to test these mowers out. So let’s take a deep look at the innovation inside these DEWALT electric mowers.

What’s New with DEWALT Electric Mowers?

DEWALT has highlighted four main improvements they’ve made with this generation of mowers. There are a few differences between the DEWALT 2X20V MAX* XR® Mower and the DEWALT 60V MAX*, but here are the common features.

Reimagined Cutting System

A 21 in. high-efficiency deck with a Direct Drive brushless autosensing motor was custom engineered for DEWALT batteries. Users will experience a better cutting performance than 163cc gas mowers.

Pro-Performance Runtime

DEWALT optimized all four mowers to have more runtime than previous models. The DEWALT 20V mowers can provide up to 100 minutes of runtime, and DEWALT FLEXVOLT mower provided 75-100 minutes of runtime on a single charge of two DEWALT 60V MAX* DCB612 4.0Ah batteries.

*[DEWALT’s conditions for runtime tests on each mower: “mowing one third of grass height, on height setting 6, using (2) DEWALT 60V MAX* DCB612 4.0aH batteries”.]

One-Touch Folding Storage

The press of a button activates the telescopic handles and allows the mower to fold to less than a fifth of its size when in operation.

85% Quieter

These new DEWALT electric mowers are 85% quieter than comparable gas mowers.

Alright, now let’s move on to our take on them.

TIA DEWALT Electric Mower Review

Dan and I were lucky enough to try out these DEWALT electric mowers to help you decide if it’s worth upgrading or switching OPE brands. Here’s a rundown of what we liked.

Performance

DeWALT electric mowers performance

We’ve had a lot of rain in Chicagoland, which means tall, thick grass that is thriving. The DEWALT electric mower cut right through, leaving no grass blades behind. So no annoying patches that required a second pass.

Run Time

Like I said, we’ve had a lot of rain so we’ve had a lot of opportunities to try the DEWALT electric mowers. Each time we were impressed by the run time. It’s not even that the mowers can complete the job without recharging, it’s that they can still complete the job on a single charge while also powering through dense, tall grass that typically drains batteries faster.

Quality Construction with Quality Materials

This DEWALT electric mower is priced fairly well with competitors while providing top-tier performance. It’s common for manufacturers to drive the price down with cheaper materials to make a product more competitive, but not DEWALT.

These DEWALT mowers live up to the same “built tough” reputation as any other DEWALT product.

Mulching & Bagging

Brands don’t always put a lot of thought into the quality or operation of their mulchers and baggers because they are standard pieces of equipment at this point. However, the attachments were easy to use, and the mower and the attachments worked well together. Each mower powered through the lawns and left nothing behind.

DEWALT Electric Mowers Value

These DEWALT electric mowers price right on par with comparable electric push and self-propelled mowers, such as EGO and TORO. These competitors also offer great performance. So what sets DEWALT above the rest?

One of the biggest value advantages of DEWALT outdoor power equipment (OPE) is that the batteries are compatible with DEWALT’s full line-up of 20V and 60V MAX* power tools, and vice versa. This is a great thing to consider if you are looking for a battery platform, but also great if you already have DEWALT 20V or 60V MAX* batteries. You’re already saving money because you can choose a cheaper kit option, and it helps you decide which mower to choose based on what batteries you already own.

Final Thoughts

DEWALT is constantly redesigning and upgrading its products to keep ahead of the competition and give consumers more. These new DEWALT electric mowers are a great example of that.

These mowers have the power, performance, and runtime to mow the average lawn on a single charge. Then the reimagined cutting system allows you to take on more demanding mows, whether that’s tough grass or an extra long “just back from vacation” lawn.

DEWALT OPE just keeps getting better and better. I can’t wait to use my DEWALT electric mower all summer long, and I’ll keep looking forward to what DEWALT puts out next.

EGO has only been around since 2013 yet has earned a reputation as a leader in electric outdoor power equipment (OPE). In fact, EGO has revolutionized the industry with its state of the arc power, performance and quality found in its products. The 2024 EGO 22 in. Lawn Mower is no different and raises the standard of consumer electric mowers.

Today we have our full TIA review of the 2024 EGO 22 in. Lawn Mower. We breakdown all the features and even get a test drive from Dan.

Guide

About EGO

EGO 56V ARC lithium battery

As we said, EGO was only established in 2013. Yet, in just over a decade the EGO brand has received the same level of respect as some of the most long-standing power tool and OPE brands. This is largely due to EGO’s battery technology.

EGO did not invent the first electric lawn mower, but many consumers weren’t sold on the technology until EGO electric mowers showed them that electric can compete with gas OPE.

EGO has only improved its battery power and OPE products. Today’s EGO 56V 10.0Ah ARC Lithium™ battery gives consumers and professionals an unprecedented amount of electric OPE performance.

EGO 22 in. Lawn Mower Features Review

Let’s take a closer look at the top features on this new EGO mower.

Cutting System

The 2024 EGO Lawn Mower has a Select Cut™ Multi-Blade Cutting System. This mower has a two-blade cutting system with upper deck blades and interchangeable lower blades. The two blades gives it twice the cutting power. The two blade work with the motor and battery to provide up to 11.1 ft-lbs of cutting torque and achieve blade speeds all the way up to 3,350 RPM.

The double blade action combined prevents those stubborn single blades or even patches of grass that sometimes escape the first pass of the lawn mower.

Lifetime Aluminum Deck

The 22 in. aluminum deck is extremely durable and anti-rust. That means you should never experience dents or rust during the mower’s lifespan. But if you do the aluminum deck is backed by a lifetime warranty.

When the deck is paired with the built-in High-Lift Bagging Blade it gives the mower the suction power to minimize leftover grass clippings and prevent the deck from clogging. Mower also comes with a 2.5-bushel bagger for grass collection.

Adjustments & Customization

The blades have two cutting adjustments with eight different positions with a cut height range of one to four inches.

Mower speed can be set between 0.9 to 3.1 MPH.

Folds up for compact and easy storage.

LED Lights

The LED headlights have three settings in addition to on and off. These settings are ECO, Normal, and Turbo.

Runtime

EGO tested this battery to provide up to 70 minutes of runtime when paired with the included EGO 56V 10.0Ah ARC Lithium™ battery.

Warranty

The 2024 EGO 22 in. Lawn Mower and EGO 56V 10.0Ah ARC Lithium™ battery are backed by a 5-year warranty, and the aluminum deck is backed by a lifetime warranty.

EGO 22 in. Lawn Mower Performance Review

Check out Dan’s video to see the 2024 EGO 22 in. Lawn Mower in action on Instagram.

We also have some thoughts not shared in the video.

Tools in Action is based in the Chicago area. We have received a lot of rain recently. This grass wasn’t wet, but still moist from a week of on and off rainfall. It’s also very dense grass and grows rapidly right now. All of this together can create grass that is just a nightmare to cut.

I know we just cut a small patch of grass, but the 2024 EGO 22 in. Lawn Mower tackled it with no fight. Dan and I are already fighting over who gets to take this EGO lawn mower home.

Back to Guide

Value of EGO 22 in. Lawn Mower

The 2024 EGO 22 in. Lawn Mower retails for $1,199 at Amazon, ACE Hardware, and anywhere else EGO OPE is sold. This price includes an EGO 56V 10.0Ah ARC Lithium™ battery and charger. The battery alone has a $500 value and is a huge factor into EGO’s high-quality performance that sets it above the competition.

The EGO 22 in. Lawn Mower may be the most expensive self-propelled lawn mower currently on the market. The STIHL RMA 510 V 21 in. 36 V Battery Self-Propelled Lawn Mower prices similarly once you add in the 36V battery. It also has a comparable performance of about 60 minutes of runtime, has seven height adjustments, and a steel deck. However, one big thing other lawn mowers are lacking is the cutting torque and blade speeds of the EGO.

When every lawn mower brand is conducting their own tests with different standards it’s hard to compare them side-by-side. So here is what you need to know the 2024 EGO 22 in. Lawn Mower’s performance compared to competitors.

The power built into the EGO 22 in. Lawn Mower allows it cut through taller and denser grass (or weeds or general foliage) with less drain on the battery. The power combined with the torque and blade speeds and superior bagging suction you are going to experience less stalls and clogs.

Overall, you can’t compare the 2024 EGO 22 in. Lawn Mower to other consumer self-propelled lawn mowers on the market because it’s a new level of quality and performance.

Back to Guide

Final Review

The 2024 EGO 22 in. Lawn Mower has raised the bar on consumer self-propelled electric lawn mowers. However, are we surprised? EGO has been a leader in electric OPE since they entered the game.

The 2024 EGO 22 in. Lawn Mower is a high-end consumer option, but great for consumers with average sized to larger lawns, or want to glide through dense leaves and weeds.

Once again, this EGO Lawn Mower can be purchased through AmazonACE Hardware.

Advantages of SKIL OPE & Power Tools

There are quite a few reasons that put SKIL OPE ahead of competitors.

Affordable Quality

For one, SKIL is competitively priced with other OPE brands while maintaining dependable quality. So even if SKIL OPE products aren’t the cheapest on the market, the price is still reasonable and you’re guaranteed quality performance.

SKIL Power Tools Lineup

SKIL doesn’t just make OPE. SKIL is actually known for its large collection of power tools. Not all OPE brands carry power tools as well. The advantage here is that your SKIL OPE and power tools can share the same batteries, which can save you hundreds of dollars from the get-go.

Designed for the Everyday User

SKIL originally made professional-grade tools and products but switched to focusing on the everyday DIY’er. Since that change, SKIL OPE and tools have been designed with the everyday consumer in mind. SKIL also doesn’t cut back on performance to accommodate a less experienced user. Instead, SKIL focuses on the ease of use so beginners are comfortable using the products and can grow their skills and confidence quickly.

These are just a few of the key advantages of SKIL OPE over other brands.

What’s Next for SKIL OPE?

SKIL has been on a steady track of new releases for all of its power tools and OPE. This includes everything from small hand tools to large tools and OPE. Some of the items today were direct improvements from previous models.

So tell us: what’s next for SKIL OPE? What products would you like to see the brand release? Let us know in the comments.

The snow is melting and we can start putting our winter clothes and gear away. However, before we do let’s review the snow blowers that came out this past season and pick out the best snow blowers of 2023/early 2024. Also, we know “best” means something different to everyone. Fortunately, snow blowers can be broken into a variety of categories and we are picking our favorite for each one.

So, what is the best snow blower of 2024?

Best Snow Blowers of 2023

Why We Like It

There were a few different electric single-stage snow blowers that came out in 2023/2024 season. Picking the best snow blower came down to best all around features. The SKIL single-stage snow blower scored high across the board, plus has the highest clearing depth of 16 in., and is powered by the improved SKIL PWRCORE 40V battery.

Best Second-Stage Gas Snow Blower

Craftsman "Select 26" 26 in. 2-stage 243cc Gas Snow Blower

Why We Like It

Gas snow blowers still reign supreme for second-stage snow blowers. Electric models are getting better, but gas models tend to be cheaper and there’s a wide variety. However, pulling a mower to start is the last thing you want to do in the cold. The electric start allows you to have the power of gas, but some perks of electric.

Also, this has a huge clearing path of 26 in. wide by 20 in. high. The chute has 200-degree rotation, intuitive joystick controls, and 15 in. snow tires and LED headlights improve the user experience. All of this makes the CRAFTSMAN Select 26 one of best snow blowers from this winter season.

Best Second-Stage Electric Snow Blower

  • EGO 28 in. 2-stage Snow Blower

    Why We Like It

This is EGO’s most powerful cordless second-stage snow blower. It has a huge clearing path of 28 in. wide by 21 in. high. It can power through at least eight inches of snow and chucks it up to 60 ft. away.

We also tested this out on a wet, messy snow and it cleared it without clogging the blades or chute. This isn’t just one of the best snow blowers of 2023/2024, this might be the industries best electric second-stage snow blower to date.

Want to learn more? Read our TIA EGO 28 in. 2-Stage Snow Blower Review.

Back to Guide

Best Third-Stage Snow Blower

Best Snow Blowers of 2023/2024 winter season

Why We Like It

With a 30 in. clearing width and 23 in. height this was designed to handle the biggest snow falls. The controls are also designed to be easy to use while wearing gloves. Cub Cadet really thought about when, where, and who would use this snow blower.

Also, this price isn’t much more than some second-stage snow blowers. Now, a third-stage snow blower is a beast. They are huge. However, if you live in high snowfall area and are already considering spending $2,000 on a snow blower, consider what a few hundred dollars more could get you.

Best Electric Snow Shovel

SKIL Electric Snow Shovel
Snow Shovel

Why We Like It

An electric snow shovel may not be the first thing you think of when purchasing a snow blower. But the maneuverability and ease of use certainly earns them a spot on our list of best snow blowers of 2023/2024.

This electric snow shovel weighs around 15 lbs. with the battery attached. This is a lot lighter than other electric snow shovels on the market. Which is nice because using an electric snow shovel can tire out your arms.

Not only is it easier to use than other models, it does a great job of clearing snow. Yes, it’s great for walkways and patios, but it can also clean up areas that are hard to get to with a traditional snow blower. For instance, around cars or tires.

Best Consumer Snow Blower

Best Snow Blowers of 2023/2024 winter season

Why We Like it

This Kobalt snow blower is a great deal for those who live in more mild to moderate snowfall areas. You don’t need to invest as much into a snow blower, but they are worth having.

This model offers a 22 in. wide clearing path, throws snow up to 30 ft. away, and 180-degree chute rotation. Plus it comes with a 5-year tool warranty and a 3-year battery warranty.

This price also competes with gas models. However, gas snow blowers require gas. With electric you have renewable batteries. You will likely save money in the long run.

Best Professional Snow Blower

Best Snow Blowers of 2023/2024 winter season

Why We Like It

Husqvarna is a leading manufacturer of professional outdoor power equipment (OPE). It’s not just the power behind the products, it’s also the functionality and user experience features.

This is the best snow blower for professionals because it has a 24 in. wide clearing path, built with an adjustable handle plus power steering, one hand operation interlocking handle, and X-trac tires anti-slip tires comes with tire chains for added traction and control.

Back to Guide

Best Snow Blower Overall for 2023

Best Snow Blowers of 2023/2024 winter season

Why We Like It

We picked a snow blower that offered the best performance at a realistic price for most consumers. Available at Lowe’s for $999 you can get the CRAFTSMAN Select 24 in. Two-stage snow blower.

Again, you’re getting that powerful gas engine, the convenient electric start, 200-degree rotation, and can launch snow up to 40 ft. away. All of this for less than $1,000. It’s hard to get that performance under four figures, which this is it’s our best snow blower overall for the 2023/2024 winter season.

Design & Features

CRAFTSMAN 26 in. snow blower engine and fuel tank
CRAFTSMAN 26 in. Snow Blower fuel tank and engine

Let’s start with the power on this CRAFTSMAN 26 in. snow blower. It is powered by a 243cc engine. This thing is mighty. We’re are at the top end of engine sizes for second stage snow blowers. However, it’s gas powered but has electric start. So, no fussing with the engine, pulling a cord waiting for the engine to catch, or mixing oil while out in the cold.

You get a nice quick start and are good to go.

CRAFTSMAN 26 in. Snow Blower steel auger

For breaking up the ice you have a 12 in. sawtooth steel auger. This is what clears those 26 in. wide and 20 in. high paths.

CRAFTSMAN 26 in. Snow Blower steel chute
CRAFTSMAN 26 in. Snow Blower steel chute

Whatever snow this CRAFTSMAN picks up heads into the steel chute. The chute has a 200-degree rotation, easily controlled by a joystick easily accessible on the control panel by the grips. The blower will launch that snow up to 40 ft. in whatever direction you choose.

Speaking of controls, the handles have a comfortable ergonomic grip. The snow blower’s speed is easy to control with a simple lever on the right side. You have six forward speeds and two reserve speeds.

You may notice that the controls on this blower aren’t “high tech”. No digital control panel or overloaded with gadgets. Instead, you just have simple controls that are self-explanatory and easy to use. There is nothing overly complicated about this set-up and that’s what you want when you have snow blowing in your face and you just want to get your driveway clear so you can go back inside.

You also get two 15 in. snow tires for better control and LED headlights for better visibility in snowy weather.

CRAFTSMAN Snow Blower Performance

Again, the snow we had was really wet. One of our employees single-stage snow blowers couldn’t even pick the snow up. You definitely need a higher-quality snow blower for this wet, freezing snow. This CRAFTSMAN 26 in. snow blower wasn’t even phased. It picked up the snow, the chute never got jammed, and it managed to still launch that snow despite how heavy it was.

Value of CRAFTSMAN 26 in. Snow Blower

As we mentioned earlier, the full retail price for this CRAFTSMAN 26 in. Snow Blower out of the gate is $1,199, and at this time you can actually get $100 off at Lowe’s.

When you compare this to other snow blowers, the CRAFTSMAN snow blower is $100-200 cheaper than the comparable Cub Cadet 2X 26 in. 243cc 2-stage Snow Blower at The Home Depot. With the discount it’s the same price as the Troy-Bilt Storm 26 in. 2-stage Snow Blower, which has a lot of the same features but a smaller engine. That seems to be the trend. If a snow blower is cheaper than the CRAFTSMAN then it’s probably missing something in terms of power, features, or performance.

The CRAFTSMAN 26 in. Snow Blower is a great price for a high-quality snow blower. If I wore hats I’d have to tip it to CRAFTSMAN. They did a great job with this product.

Back to Guide

Final Review of CRAFTSMAN 26 in. Snow Blower

Overall, the CRAFTSMAN “Select 26” Snow Blower is a great second-stage gas powered snow blower. You get top-of-the-line power for a very competitive price. I say act now while it’s still $100 off at Lowe’s. But full price or not, the CRAFTSMAN 26 in. Snow Blower is a worthwhile investment.

What about you? What is your experience with CRAFTMAN snow blowers?

Let us know your model and if you recommend it or like the idea of upgrading to the new 26 in. model.

It’s time to upgrade your snow blower, but what should you get: gas or electric? This is the common debate when buying new outdoor power equipment (OPE) today. Electric, specifically battery-powered, OPE technology has evolved to give us more power than we ever thought possible. But does it beat gas-powered snow blowers? Today we’re doing electric vs gas snow blowers. We’re sharing the advantages and disadvantages of each to help you decide which type of snow blower is best for you.

Guide

Brief History of Snow Blowers

Henry Ariens first snow blower
Henry Ariens tests snow blower prototype. From Ariens Company.

Snow blowers and overall snow removal machines have been around for a while, but the “Sicard Snow Remover Snowblower” invented by Arthur Sicard in 1925 was a breakthrough for modern snow blowers. It was a lot bigger than the average snow blowers of today. It was pretty much a glorified four-wheel drive truck with a snow scooper and two chutes, and it reportedly could throw snow up to 90 ft. But it was a beast. It wasn’t practical for clearing the suburban driveways of today.

In 1935 Henry Ariens, founder of The Ariens Company, managed to shrink down Sicard’s snow blower when he invented the first push snow blower. However, it would be about 20 years before Ariens would put a consumer snow blower on the market. Toro beat Ariens to market by almost 10 years with the 1952 Toro Snow Hound (check out this original ad).

The Toro Snow Hound played a big role in popularizing snow blowers among everyday homeowners. It was available to buyers for $159.95 (so that’s around $1,800 in today’s dollars) and it inspired more brands to develop their own consumer snow blowers. These first models ran on gas and could last a really long time with regular maintenance.

Don’t believe me? Watch this 1969 Toro Snow Hound 20 in. Snow Blower go to work in this video by Mowers N Blowers.

From here consumer snow blowers continued to develop. Today consumers can readily choose between first-, second- and third-stage snow blowers. Snow blowers have grown in regards to both power and clearing paths, and consumers now have a wide variety of electric snow blower options available.

Electric VS Gas Snow Blowers: CRAFTSMAN 26 Select two-stage gas snow blower

To compare electric vs gas snow blowers you really need to take a closer look at each type of snow blower. We’ll start with gas. Of course each type has their own advantages and disadvantages. Here are the benefits of gas-powered snow blower.

Pros of Gas-powered Snow Blowers

  • Generally cheaper, at least up front.
  • More gas models are currently available for 2-stage snow blowers and the only current option for 3-stage snow blowers.
  • Can run as long as you have fuel. No waiting during recharge.
  • Gas is long-standing and reliable technology. With regular maintenance, a lot of these machines have proven to last a long time.
  • Dominant power source for your large second- and third-stage snow blowers.

While these are great reasons to choose a gas-powered snow blower there are some definite disadvantages.

Cons of Gas-powered Snow Blowers

  • Heavy machines that can be more difficult to handle.
  • Requires regular maintenance.
  • Emits fumes that aren’t good to breathe and are harmful to the environment.
  • Louder than electric alternatives. This could be considered annoying to the user or people nearby such as neighbors. It can also make the user less aware of their surroundings while using the snow blower.

Electric Snow Blowers

Electric VS Gas Snow Blowers: EGO 28 in. 2-stage electric snow blower

When it comes to electric vs gas snow blowers, gas always reigned supreme. However, there has been a steady rise in electric snow blowers over the past 15 years, and each one redefining what electric snow blowers are capable of. Here’s a look at the benefits.

Pros of Electric Snow Blowers

  • Choice of corded and cordless (battery) power source, which also gives you either a endless or reusable power source.
  • No gas or fumes, and less maintenance than gas-powered machines.
  • Generally lighter and easier to move than gas-powered snow blowers.
  • Battery-powered technology and machines are constantly evolving and there has been a steady rise of powerful electric snow blowers available on the market.
  • Wide variety of available electric first-stage snow blowers.

Again, no design is perfect. Here is a look at the drawbacks of electric snow blowers.

Cons of Electric Snow Blowers

  • Performance is limited to the extent of your cord or your battery’s run time, and there is additional waiting during charge time.
  • Generally costs more, at least upfront.
  • Newer technology, newer design. We just don’t know yet how well electric snow blowers will hold up over time.
  • Batteries should be stored away from extreme temps to avoid loss of life from exposure.
  • For snow blowers there are limited electric second-stage snow blowers and no electric third-stage snow blowers currently available.

Our EGO Power+ 28 in. 2-stage Snow Blower arrived just in time for us to test it out on our first major snowfall of the season. This is the most powerful cordless electric snow blower to come from EGO yet. If may even be the biggest and most powerful cordless electric snow blower of its kind. The majority of 2-stage snow blowers are still gas-powered. So, we are excited to report how the EGO 28 in. 2-stage snow blower performs compared to gas models.

EGO Snow Blower Guide

About EGO

EGO logo

If you’ve been around then you know that I am a longtime fan of EGO. Before EGO it was hard for me to imagine battery-powered outdoor power equipment (OPE) that could even compare to gas models. But then I tried the original EGO 56V Lawn Mower in 2014 and converted. But I was still on the fence, this was a new company after all. Then two years later EGO sealed the deal for me with the first-ever EGO 56V Snow Blower. It outperformed competing models at the time by handling thicker piles of snow and threw snow further by a long shot (no pun intended).

The difference in performance was so dramatic that EGO, fresh out of the gate, raised the bar for cordless electric snow blowers of the time, and has done so with all areas of battery-powered OPE.

I knew then EGO was not some one-hit-wonder OPE company. And I learned that’s because EGO is not just EGO. EGO is backed by Chervon, a global company that sets high manufacturing and performance standards for its products, even for new brands.

But how will the new EGO 28 in. 2-stage Snow Blower perform? The market was smaller in 2016 when we first tested the original EGO snow blower. EGO may have raised the bar, but competitors rose to the challenge.

What has EGO done to make sure this snow blower stands above the rest? Let’s find out.

Battery VS Gas Snow Blowers

Some of you are probably wondering why you should go with a battery-powered snow blower over a gas. I understand the hesitation since there are still a lot of gas-powered snow blowers available, and gas dominates the 2-stage snow blower market.

Here are some of the benefits of battery-powered snow blowers:

  • Less noisy, which is great when snow blowing at night or in the morning.
  • No gas, less maintenance than gas-powered machines, and no fumes.
  • Generally lighter than gas-powered machines.

There are some drawbacks to electric. You either have a cord to deal with or are limited by battery power. However, OPE battery technology has come a long way and I’ve been very satisfied with the performance of EGO’s ARC Lithium batteries. But when they do run out you do have to wait while they charge before you can finish your job. Electric can also cost more upfront. Remember, a lot of this extra cost is usually from the batteries and chargers required. With gas you pay that expense over time.

There are also benefits to having a gas snow blower:

  • Generally cheaper, at least up front.
  • More gas models are currently available for 2-stage snow blowers and the only current option for 3-stage snow blowers.
  • Can run as long as you have fuel.

Some of the drawbacks of gas snow blowers are that they can be heavier, the fumes are not good to breathe, and overall more maintenance is required.

Personally, I enjoy the ease and performance of an battery powered snow blower. Plus, the technology is continually advancing and we’re bound to just see more advancements in power and performance.

1-stage VS 2-stage Snow Blowers

A 1-stage (or “first-stage”, “single-stage”) snow blower is actually more accurately called a “snow thrower”. This is because it has a single device, an auger, that breaks, collects and “throws” the snow. This action is what is referred to as the “first stage”. Electric snow shovels also fit into the category of single-stage snow blowers.

A 2-stage (or “second-stage”) snow blower has a second step for snow removal. In addition to the auger it also has a fan that prevents clogging and “blows” the snow. The fan makes the snow blower more effective and allows it to tackle thicker piles of snow.

Power & Performance

The EGO 28 in. 2-stage Snow Blower combines EGO’s Peak Power™ technology with two of its 56V 12.0Ah ARC Lithium batteries. This power allows this snow blower to clear paths 28 in. wide and 21 in. tall, and launch snow up to 60 ft. away.

The steel auger busts through snow and ice, and the chute also has a 200-degree radius that’s easy to control with the 2-in-1 joystick.

The best part is that you barely have to work with this EGO snow blower. The self-propel moves both forward and back, plus variable-speed settings give you complete control over the experience.

This week we got a really wet and heavy snow. A member of our staff actually wasn’t able to clear it with her (non-EGO) snow blower. The EGO 28 in. 2-stage Snow Blower had no issues.

Special Features

EGO of course wanted to go above and beyond when creating this snow blower. On top of the great performance, they added a few special features for your snow blowing experience.

EGO 28 in. 2-stage Snow Blower

The feature I’m most grateful for is the heated handle grips. Some would say they don’t actually improve the performance. But anything that makes you more willing to stay outside with the snow blower is a bonus for me.

EGO also added “trigger-controlled steering assists” for more control when moving your snow blower. It doesn’t stop there. Remember the 200-degree chute? Easily adjust it with an electric joystick. The joystick is easy to use and you don’t have to reach for it.

In addition to the high-tech features, EGO added four LED headlights to the front, and equipped this blower with large 16 in. x 5 in. anti-traction snow tires. People tend to be concerned that electric snow blowers are too lightweight for harsh conditions. The IPX4-rated exterior ensures the EGO 28 in. 2-stage snow blower can stand up to harsh winter conditions.

Value

You can purchase the EGO 28 in. 2-Stage Snow Blower from Amazon, ACE Hardware, and Lowe’s. This snow blower is available with two 56V batteries (SNT2800) or without (SNT2807). It retails without the batteries for $1,499 or with the batteries for $2,199-$3,179.

This is a powerful snow blower and there isn’t a huge variety of electric snow blowers of this caliber (yet). We have found 24 in. 2-stage snow blowers, such as the Snow Joe 100V IONMAX, which retails for $1,298. It’s a good snow blower, but it doesn’t clear as much or offer the same control or specialty features as the EGO 28 in. snow blower. The EGO is only $200 more and you get a lot in exchange.

Without batteries, this EGO snow blower prices similarly to comparable second-stage gas snow blowers, the Cub Cadet 2X 28 in. 272cc IntelliPower for $1,499, and the Toro Power Max HD 828 for $1,525.98. Because of the difference in power sources they are hard to compare side-by-side. But they offer comparable performance, without the benefits of being battery powered.

Overall, EGO products can be on the higher end, but this snow blower is priced competitively for what it offers. It may also be the best cordless electric snow blower on the market.

Final Review

EGO has done it again and raised the standard of electric cordless snow blowers. I have a feeling we still have a long winter ahead of us and I’m excited to see how well the EGO 28 in. 2-stage Snow Blower continues to perform in our Chicagoland winter.

Dan and I are from Chicagoland and the snow doesn’t hold back here. OPE to remove snow is pretty much essential for homeowners. However, the lingo for these items can be confusing and make it hard to buy the right equipment, especially the terms “snow blower” and “snow thrower”. Lucky for you, today we’re going snow blower vs snow thrower. We’ll explain the differences between these two items and how to know which one is right for you.

Guide

Snow Blower VS Snow Thrower

The key difference between these two OPE is that a “snow thrower” refers to a single-stage blower, and a “snow blower” refers to a two-stage snow blower. However, snow blower appears to be an overarching term for either machine. In fact, each of these products looks and operates very similarly. The part that is different is more internal and refers to how these items eject the snow.

So…then what is the difference between a single- and two-stage snow blower?

Back to Guide

Single-Stage Snow Blowers

A single-stage (or “first”, “one”) snow blower has one mechanism, an auger, that breaks and collects the snow, and then ejects the snow out of the chute, or otherwise “throws” it. This is where the term “snow thrower” comes from. This action refers to the “first stage” of snow removal and is present in both devices.

Single-stage snow blowers work well at removing about half a foot of snow at a time and work better on fresh snow that hasn’t frozen hard yet.

Electric Snow Shovel

Another tool that works similarly to a single-stage snow blower is an electric snow shovel. We recently looked at an electric snow shovel from SKIL. You hold this similarly to a traditional snow shovel, but you just push it to clear a path.

It’s a lot easier on your shoulders than a traditional shovel, and they are great for clearing snow in smaller and more intricate areas, like steps and sidewalks. You can also easily move them to the back of your house to clear your deck.

Two-Stage Snow Blowers

A two-stage snow blower has a second step for snow removal. A two-stage snow blower has a fan that ejects, or “blows” the snow both farther and more forcefully than a single-stage snow blower. This fan actually helps prevent clogging, which allows this kind of snow blower to tackle deeper piles of snow. Some two-stage snow blowers can handle up to two feet of heavy snow.

Because of the higher performance two-stage snow blowers usually cost twice as much as single-stage snow blowers. The average price of a two-stage snow blower is $800 to $1,600.

Three-Stage Snow Blowers

There are also three-stage snow blowers that are equipped with two augers to break-up snow. They are incredibly powerful and remove snow over 20 in. deep. However, they are expensive, they are higher maintenance, and they are limited. The average price of a three-stage snow blower ranges from $1,600 to $3,700.

Theww-stage snow blowers aren’t common in residential settings. However, they are great for more rural areas prone to heavy snowfalls. So, they are worth mentioning.

Back to Guide

Single-Stage VS Two-Stage

In general, a two-stage snow blower is more powerful than a single-stage. The extra power to get the snow out of the machine allows it work on thicker piles of snow.  A single-stage snow blower is limited to piles around six to eight inches and works better on lighter snow that hasn’t set.

Because of this, during a snowstorm, people with a single-stage snow blower often need to go out every one to two hours as opposed to at the end of a snowstorm. Those with a second-stage snow blower can either go out at the end of smaller storms, or every few hours during bigger storms.

Which is Better for Consumers?

So, snow blower vs snow thrower. As someone from the Chicago area, I say a two-stage snow blower is completely worth it.

Here we experience heavy snowfalls, sometimes one after another. Going out every other hour to clear snow isn’t the worst. However, staying up all night to do it is not fun either. I also want my snow blower to be powerful enough to handle heavy snows or snow that has set and is frozen.

That being said, single-stage snow blowers or “snow throwers” are still a great option. In fact, snow throwers are cheaper and still an effective method of snow removal and will be enough to handle the majority of snowfalls with a single pass.

A snow thrower is perfect for a common residential driveway. Also, if you live in an area that doesn’t regularly experience extreme snowfall then a single-stage is fine.

A two-stage “snow blower” is a better choice for someone with a larger driveway and lives in an extreme snowfall area. However, they cost almost double, with the average price starting around $1,000.

Snow Blower VS Snow Thrower Wrap-up

I can’t tell you which type of snow thrower or snow blower is best for you. However, hopefully, now that you know the difference between a snow blower and a snow thrower, you will have an easier time making that decision for yourself.

Now, we want to know: do you own a snow blower or snow thrower? If so, tell us what you have and where you live in the country. Let us know if it has been enough for your home and if you would recommend it.

SKIL 40V Snow Blower VS Electric Snow Shovel

Before I compare these I have to start with these are two very different winter OPE products. I can easily see someone owning both of these products and this is not a one without the other situation. Instead, I’m just going to tell you the best times to use each and who would use them.

Benefits of a Snow Blower

The SKIL 40V 20 in. Snow Blower is a single-stage snow blower, also known as a “snow thrower”. That just means there is no fan to assist with the ejection of snow. Either way, snow blowers and throwers are cumbersome machines. They are meant for heavy-duty snow removal. They clear a wide path. A single-stage snow blower is great for removing a few inches of snow at a time. For snow storms, it is a good idea to clear snow every other hour. A two-stage snow blower can tackle those thicker piles of snow.

Either way, this snow blower is great for removing snow off larger surfaces and works in smaller areas like paved walkways. Snow blowers are pretty much essential for homeowners where I live.

Summary

Ideal for clearing large surfaces like driveways and paved walkways, and clearing a few inches of snow at a time.

Benefits of an Electric Snow Shovel

Snow blowers are great, but again they are big and they don’t fit everywhere. While an electric snow shovel is clearly smaller than a snow blower, it is great for finessing around areas. I think it’s particularly suitable for clearing snow around cars.

Driveways are not the only large surface that it snows on. Decks and patios still get covered, but it’s not always easy or advisable to use a snow blower on those areas. Because electric snow shovels are so lightweight you can easily carry them to your backyard, use them on your porch, and overall access areas that are harder to get to with a snow blower.

Summary

Great for clearing snow from smaller and more intricate areas. Can easily be carried and lifted to other locations. Electric snow shovels are a great “assistant” to snow blowers for homeowners. However, may be enough for people in apartments or condos who want to easily move smaller amounts of snow throughout the year.

Back to list

Value

Both the SKIL 40V Snow Blower and SKIL 40V Electric Snow Shovel are priced either right on par or below comparable products from other brands. The SKIL Snow Blower in particular is currently the same price as a similar model by RYOBI, but the snow blower from SKIL comes with a battery and charger and the RYOBI model does not.

The SKIL Electric Snow Shovel also priced right on par with a comparable model by RYOBI. I have not personally used the RYOBI model. However, from the photos the Electric Snow Shovel from SKIL appears to have a more heavy-duty construction.

Back to list

Final Thoughts

The new SKIL 40V 20 in. Snow Blower and 40V Electric Snow Shovel come in at a great price. I’m excited to see how they perform this winter with the help of the new and improved SKIL PWR CORE 40™ 40V 4.0Ah Lithium Ion Battery.

Technology for outdoor power equipment is continuously advancing and every new leaf blower seems to have more power than the last. But how do you know if you have enough leaf blower power for you? Or, how do you know if a leaf blower has too much power? To know this you need to understand the main components of measuring leaf blower power, which are CFM and MPH.

Today, we are breaking down these components for measuring leaf blower power and helping you gauge the correct power level for you.

Leaf Blower Power Guide

How is Leaf Blower Power Measured?

Leaf blower power is based upon two main measurements: CFM and MPH. The power level also relies on the leaf blower’s overall voltage and power source. Let’s break each of these components down to understand them individually, as well as how each component impacts each other.

What is CFM?

CFM stands for cubic-feet-per-minute and this measurement refers to the amount of air moved in one minute and CFM is measured with an anemometer. Fans and air compressors also use this measurement, but for leaf blowers this measurement refers to the amount of air being pulled in and exiting through the blower over the course of a minute.

To put it simply, the higher the CFM, the more leaves and debris that can be moved in one minute, theoretically…

MPH

Miles-per-hour (MPH) is the other measurement used to calculate leaf blower power. This is a straightforward measurement that most people are used to. For leaf blowers it refers to the rate of speed at which air exits the blower.

One would assume a high CFM would create a high MPH. CFM definitely impacts MPH. However, MPH can be manipulated based on how wide or narrow the tube or nozzle is.

The Husqvarna Leaf Blaster™ Blower we recently reviewed is a great example of this. The high-speed nozzle is narrower, and that tighter concentration of air increases the MPH.

With that in mind, high CFM does not necessarily equate to high MPH. Buyers need to pay attention to both units of measurement.

Power Source

Gas and electric are the two main power sources for leaf blowers. Now, these two power sources are measured differently. Gas is measured in cc’s and electric is measured in voltage, and both play a significant role in the engine’s power and the resulting CFM and MPH.

Back to list

Gas vs Electric

Power source is another important factor when determining a leaf blower’s power.

Over the years there has been a steady rise in electric leaf blowers and outdoor power equipment (OPE). However, many consumers still use gas-powered blowers. Both sides make claims about which is better. To me, neither is better, but they’re different.

Here are a few quick facts about each type of power source so you can decide which is best for you.

Gas

  • Generally more affordable/lower upfront cost.
  • Added expense of gas and oil.
  • Requires regular maintenance.
  • Arguably longer or higher power performance than most battery equivalents, plus quick and easy refueling.
  • Loud when in use.
  • Two-stroke fuel-burning is a known pollutant and carcinogen.

Electric

  • Choice of corded or electric.
  • Generally more expensive/higher upfront cost.
  • Has renewable power source.
  • Requires minimal maintenance.
  • Shorter runtimes for battery-powered and may need multiple batteries to complete one area. However, battery recharge times are improving.
  • Generally quieter than gas-powered leaf blowers.
  • Arguably more environmentally friendly.

Based on current OPE battery technology, most homeowners can have their lawn and garden needs met with electric-powered leaf blowers and OPE.

How Much Leaf Blower Power Do I Need?

How much power you need will depend on what you need a blower for. Before purchasing, ask yourself:

  • Is this leaf blower for personal or commercial use?
  • How big is the area that I will regularly use this for?
  • How often will I use this leaf blower?
  • What is my budget?
  • Do I want a gas or electric leaf blower?

A shopper with a small yard who only needs a blower for weekly maintenance obviously needs less power than someone with a large yard with lots of trees or multiple areas to maintain. Once you figure out where your needs fall you can then gauge the appropriate level of CFM for your needs.

Here is quick almost cheat sheet for knowing how much power the average person needs in these common settings.

  • 200-400 CFM: Great for homeowners with average-sized yards. This power level can be found in 18-24V leaf blowers.
  • 400-600 CFM: Perfect for people with larger lots such as homesteaders, landowners, and property managers. This power level can be found in 40V leaf blowers.
  • 600-800 CFM: Ideal for landscapers or property owners with a lot of brush. This power level can be found in 40-80V leaf blowers.

Types of Leaf Blowers

There are three main types of leaf blowers: handheld, backpack, and walk-behind.

Handheld leaf blowers are the most common type of leaf blower, especially among everyday consumers since the price and performance meet the needs of the average homeowner. Backpack and walk-behind leaf blowers are more common in commercial settings, or those with large and/or multiple properties to manage.

Check out this video by Billy Goat Leaf Blowers to compare the performance of handheld, backpack, and walk-behind leaf blowers.

Buying your first leaf blower can be intimidating if you’ve never dealt with CFM’s or don’t know the difference between a volt and a cc. However, if you just sit down and take a moment to understand what these measurements mean it turns out it’s really not that complicated.

A zero-turn lawn mower can save you time when mowing a larger yard that is full of flower beds, trees, swing sets, lawn decor, and so on. However, it can take time to learn how to operate a zero-turn mower, but a zero-turn mower with a steering wheel feels familiar and can speed up the process. The market for zero-turn mowers with steering wheels isn’t huge, but the EGO Z6 42 in. Zero-Turn Mower with e-STEER™ provides a powerful electric option for consumers.

Today we will take a deep dive into the EGO Z6, zero-turn mower steering options, and see how the EGO Z6 compares to other zero-turn mowers with steering wheels.

EGO Z6 Zero-Turn Mower Highlights

This mower has a lot of great features that provide better maneuverability, cut quality, precision, comfort and more. However, I want to highlight a few features that make this EGO Z6 stand out.

Electric Mower

Consumers tend to fear that electric cannot compete with gas-powered OPE. However, when the EGO Z6 is paired with the four included 56V 12.0Ah ARC Lithium™ batteries it can cut up to 2.5 acres on a single charge. When paired with six 56V batteries and Peak Power™ technology the Z6 offers the same performance as a 22-horsepower gas engine.

Also, the included EGO Z6 Charger is the industry’s fastest and can fully recharge a drained 56V battery in only 2.5 hours.

EGO’s commitment to creating powerful electric OPE is why EGO is one of our favorite brands at TIA.

Benefits of Zero-Turn

EGO Z6 zero-turn mower with steering wheel

The benefit of zero-turn mowers is that they offer great maneuverability around landscape obstacles. With enough precision, riders can remove the extra effort and time spent trimming these areas.

Some of this precision comes from the 42 in. cut deck, and the adjustable 10-position cut height ranging from 1.5 to 4.5 inches. The rest of it comes from…

e-STEER™

EGO Z6 zero-turn mower with a steering wheel

For users looking for a zero-turn mower with a steering wheel, e-STEER™ is the answer. e-STEER™ allows users the familiar experience of driving their zero-turn mower like a car.

With the EGO Z6 there is no reason to reinvent the steering wheel, so to speak. Instead, just make it better with a little boost from modern technology.

More Zero-Turn Mowers with Steering Wheels

Cub Cadet also offers a zero-turn mower with a steering wheel in the Cub Cadet Ultima Series. The model most similar to the EGO Z6 is the Cub Cadet ZTS1 42. It is a similar size, cut height range, and is made with quality materials and products.

While you may save on the initial price of the Cub Cadet ZTS1 42, this is a gas-powered mower and the price does not reflect the cost of gas and maintenance. So, while the initial price of EGO Z6 is more, you are getting a rechargeable power system, along with none of the maintenance of gas.

So, is EGO Z6 the Best Zero-Turn Mower with a Steering Wheel?

Consumers looking for a zero-turn mower with a steering wheel don’t have a ton of options. However, the EGO POWER+ 42 in. Z6 Zero Turn Mower with e-STEER™ Technology gives consumers a great option, especially for consumers interested in electric mower options. Also, when you consider that the EGO Z6 has comes with its own endless power system and that gas products have additional expenses, the price difference between the two lessens. Plus, all of the additional features help the EGO Z6 reign supreme, at least for an electric option.

So, now I turn to you. What is your experience with zero-turn mowers? Have you tried different steering systems? If so, which steering style do you prefer and why?
