Where to Buy Hilti Nuron Vacuums

Some Hilti vacuums can be purchased at popular retailers, such as The Home Depot, but currently, the Hilti VC 4LX-22 TB Cordless Vacuum can only be purchased directly through Hilti and possibly some specialty retailers.

Starting at $549 for the basic kit, the Hilti VC 4LX-22 TB does price high compared to other professional vacuums and dust extractors. However, this tool is designed specifically for the Hilti Nuron platform and the modular design allows it to fit a variety of specific uses without needing different types of equipment. When I think of Hilti, I usually don’t think of vacuums.  I think concrete, fastening, and other tools and products you see on large job sites.  Sure I think of them for dust collection and safety but not small vacuums like the Hilti VC 75-1-22 vacuum. However, this is one of the best vacuums on the market.  A while back in 2018, we covered this Hilti Vacuum and also back in 2020 we did a revisit.  Today we are going over the same vacuum but with a twist.

Hilti VC 75-1-22 Vacuum Overview

When it comes to small vacuums like this Hilti, every manufacturer has their own version.  However not one of them can compete with the Hilti.  I think the Hilti is by far the best option and with the 2022 introduction of the Nuron Battery Platform, it’s just another reason this is the best vacuum on the market. So what makes this vacuum so great?

This vacuum is on top because of its ease of use, power, vacuum bag, filter, and storage options.  So let’s jump in and take a look at this vacuum and dive into some of the notable features of this vacuum.

Hilti VC 75-1-22 Vacuum Features

The Hilti VC 71-1-22 is designed around the Nuron battery platform.  The vacuum offers 1.6 psi with a 7 lb dust capacity.

One of the main reasons that the vacuum is so powerful and offers such a long run time is it can run on a Hilti Nuron battery.  For those who don’t know about Nuron, take a look at the Hilti Nuron BatteryPlatform to see why it is so different from the others in the marketplace.

The vacuum features a stretchable vacuum hose that will extend up to 8′.  The nozzle has a tapered end and stores nicely on the vacuum.  No lifting up lids and no messing around.

Hilti VC 75-1-22 Vacuum

The vacuum offers two modes, ECO and MAX.  If you have a big mess and need extra power, MAX is the mode to use.  However, if you have finer debris that are not as heavy and you want a longer run time, go with the ECO mode.

The foldable handle is a great design.  The handle is easy to lift up and use when needed, but folds down and out of the way when not needed.  This is a great feature because as you know, we are all limited on the room we have in our van or truck box.  So other items can sit nicely on the vacuum while stored.

As noted above, the vacuum has a crevice tool and a brush attachment.  Both store nicely in the vacuum and stay in place, even if you drop the vacuum.  Again, no lids to lift or latches to unclip when you need an attachment.

If you do get a clog in the hose, it is easy to remove from the vacuum.  Just press a button and the hose will release.  Best of all, when the hose is attached, it will stay in place and not come undone even if you are pulling hard.  Probably the best setup we have seen for hose attachments.

As we know, dust can not only cause a mess but it is not healthy to breathe it in.  So Hilti not only has a HEPA filter but also a dust bag in the vacuum catch basin. You open two latches to separate the top from the 1-gallon bottom, remove and replace the dust bag, all without the usual air-borne mess.

Hilti VC 75-1-22 Vacuum

Yes, a filter is nice but it can get clogged and cause the vacuum to lose suction.  If this happens, just push a button to clean the filter and return the vacuum to the original suction power.

Hilti VC 75-1-22 Vacuum

If you need to carry this around while using it, they have also included a shoulder strap.

Hilti VC 75-1-22 Vacuum Performance

As you can see, we sucked up these nuts, bolts, and washers.  The vacuum did it easily and it wasn’t a fight on our end. So when it comes to cleaning up around the job site, this vacuum will be able to handle it without any issues.

Hilti VC 75-1-22 Vacuum Value

The vacuum runs for $259 without any batteries or $489 with two batteries and a charger at The Home Depot.  Yes, it’s a little more than some competitors but I think it’s worth every penny.  The vacuum is powerful, easy to work with, and offers a lot of great features that the competitors do not.

Hilti VC 75-1-22 Vacuum Wrap Up

I will put this vacuum up against any other vacuum in its class.  Yes, it’s powerful and has long run times, but I like how this is a well-designed vacuum for the user.  The dust collection system is one of the best and the idea is you can easily clean the filter without having to remove everything when it gets clogged is very convenient.  The onboard storage is easily accessible and the long hose makes it easy to work with. Hilti is a name you can trust and they have the support to back up their name and their products.  If you are invested in the Hilti line this would be another great purchase.

Before we get started, I just want to thank Milwaukee.  This is something I have wanted for years, and a hole that has been in the vacuum industry since it started.  Let’s face it, there are a lot of quality vacuums on the market but they are all about the same.  Everyone tries to make a vacuum that works for all projects and situations.  Here’s the problem, not all projects and situations are the same.  So Milwaukee came up with a very creative product line, the Milwaukee AIR-TIP Vacuum Accessories.

Milwaukee M18 FUEL Cordless Wet/Dry Vacuum

Before we jump into the Milwaukee AIR-TIPs, I wanted to give you a quick rundown of this new Milwaukee shop vacuum so you can see why it’s unique to the industry.  If you would like an in-depth look at the vacuum, check out our full review of the Milwaukee M18 FUEL Cordless Wet/Dry Vacuum. And here’s a brief rundown of the vacuum and how it relates to the Milwaukee AIR-TIP Vacuum Accessories.

Milwaukee Vacuum

So here is one of the coolest features of this vacuum, it’s modular.  There are three head units, different size tubs, and two different carts.  So a user can customize their vacuum set-up the way they want it, genius.  And you can even choose to go cordless or corded.

When it comes to keeping the air clean, Milwaukee also offers a variety of different filters depending on what the user is doing.  One of my favorite add-ons is the dust bags for the tub.  You really don’t find this a lot with other shop vacs.  I hate trying to pour out a large tub of dust only for it to fly back in my face.  Plus the dust bags keep the filters cleaner, which also saves money.

The vacuum comes with a 9′ hose but if you want a longer hose, you can also purchase a 16′ hose so your not pulling the vacuum around as much.  Again, most vacuums come with a shorter hose and it can be a pain rolling your vacuum around.  What a great idea, with Milwaukee having a longer hose, plus these are high-quality hoses, not those cheap hard-plastic hoses.

Milwaukee didn’t stop there, they also offer a wide variety of attachments to use with your vacuum.  The above are just some of the attachments they offer to help the user make this a vacuum for their specific needs.

Milwaukee AIR-TIP Vacuum Accessories – What is AIR-TIP?

So as you can see, you can really customize this vacuum to your needs.  Let’s face it, if that was it, this would already be a killer vacuum and one of the best vacuums on the market.  But Milwaukee didn’t stop there.  They wanted more and created the AIR-TIP Trade Focused Vacuum Accessories line which are specific attachments for different trades and different projects.

Now Milwaukee didn’t stop there.  When they designed these attachments for different trades, they also said let’s make sure these attachments are interchangeable.  So you can use these with different diameter vacuum hoses.  So not only will they work with Milwaukee but they would work with some other brands as well.  These AIR-TIPs are compatible with 1-1/4″, 1-7/8″, and 2-1/2″ diameter hoses.  I like the forward-thinking.

Milwaukee AIR-TIP Vacuum Accessories Wrap Up

The bottom line, the Milwaukee line of vacuums is amazing.  I have always been a fan of DeWalt and RIDGID.  However, they don’t offer what Milwaukee offers which is versatility and application/trade-specific attachments.  When I was doing my house, I can’t tell you how many times the Milwaukee vacuum and AIR-TIPs would have been great, especially the Flexible Micro Hose Set for under my baseboard heaters.

I raise my hat to Milwaukee and the team that created this new modular vacuum along with the AIR-TIP Trade Focused Vacuum Accessories.  You have changed the way we use and the way we think of vacuums.  The team that developed this needs a raise.

Milwaukee Tool strives to be the best at what they do. And being the best at jobsite cleanup is no exception. Milwaukee has always had an impressive lineup of wet/dry vacs. Now the Milwaukee M18 FUEL Cordless Wet/Dry Vacuums set out to raise the standard for jobsite vacuums by offering unrivaled performance and durability. And are part of what Milwaukee claims to be the “Most Versatile Wet/Dry Vac System” on the market.

Let’s see if this Milwaukee M18 FUEL Cordless Wet/Dry Vacuum can actually handle everything your shop, crew, or jobsite can throw at it.

Milwaukee M18 FUEL Cordless Wet/Dry Vacuum Overview

milwaukee m18 cordless wet/dry vacuum

We got our hands on the M18 FUEL 9 Gallon Dual-Battery Wet/Dry Vacuum (0920-20). The Milwaukee M18 FUEL Cordless Wet/Dry Vacuum also comes in two additional tank sizes, a 6 Gallon and 12 Gallon.

This model includes two rapid charge M18 REDLITHIUM batteries, a Dual Bay Simultaneous Rapid Charger, a 9 ft. hose, two extension wands, two attachments (a crevice tool and utility tool), a large wet/dry vacuum high-efficiency filter, five vacuum bags, and interchangeable wet/dry vacuum cart.

Here are some of the features Milwaukee highlights:

Milwaukee M18 FUEL Cordless Wet/Dry Vacuum Highlights:

  • Better than corded power from POWERSTATE Brushless Motor and two M18 REDLITHIUM Battery operation
  • Doubled lifespan from reinforced caster wheels, durable hose and attachments, and hard plastic housing
  • Versatility and customization from the interchangeable motor heads (a corded and/or two cordless options), two styles of wet/dry vacuum carts, hoses, and many attachments

Milwaukee M18 FUEL Cordless Wet/Dry Vacuum Features

milwaukee m18 cordless wet/dry vacuum

There are three sizes in this line of Milwaukee M18 FUEL Cordless Wet/Dry Vacuums; available in 6, 9, or 12 gallon tanks. All are built with a POWERSTATE Brushless Motor. We are reviewing the midsize M18 FUEL 9 Gallon Dual-Battery Wet/Dry Vacuum (0920-20). This model pairs the POWERSTATE Brushless Motor with two M18 REDLITHIUM Batteries.

The result is a cordless vacuum with stronger suction, picking up more debris than all other 4.25 peak horsepower wet/dry vacuums in the same amount of time, even when compared to corded vacuums.

milwaukee m18 cordless wet/dry vacuum on/off switch

The power switch is easy to find, just off to the side of the lid. The button is big and easy to press. The Milwaukee M18 FUEL Cordless Wet/Dry Vacuum has two run-time modes:

  1. MAX POWER MODE provides 25 minutes of cleaning, which covers about 1,075 square ft.
  2. MAX RUN-TIME MODE provides 36 minutes of cleaning, covering about 1,250 square ft.

milwaukee m18 cordless wet dry vacuum interchangeable motor head

The top of this vacuum also features an interchangeable motor head. This means you can easily convert your cordless vacuum into a corded one for when you have to clean a large site that requires more than 36 minutes of run-time.

milwaukee m18 cordless wet/dry vacuum full kit

The Milwaukee M18 FUEL Cordless Wet/Dry Vacuum is made of a strong, hard plastic. It doesn’t give in and would be resilient against accidental kicks or getting knocked over. That being said, this square vacuum sits securely both flat on the floor and in a cart.

milwaukee m18 cordless wet/dry vacuum hoses and attachments

The included 9 ft. hose is made to withstand being crushed or extremely twisted. The durability is clear when you compare this Milwaukee vacuum hose side-by-side to other brands. The extension wands and accessories are made with the same hard plastic as the vacuum body and with the same integrity.

The hose and attachments are 1-7/8 in. and the vacuum is compatible with other 1-7/8 in. accessories.

milwaukee m18 cordless wet/dry vacuum hose lock

Attaching and locking the hose is easy. You just need to align the hose and push it into the vacuum. Locking the hose into place is a simple twist to the right.

milwaukee m18 cordless wet/dry vacuum handles

The side handles are also made of that same hard plastic, with one handle on the front and one on the back. They have a very secure hold and won’t accidentally release when cleaning. There is also a lot of space underneath the side handles. So, it’s easy to grip when opening to change the bag or filter.

milwaukee m18 cordless wet/dry vacuum tank

We opened up the vacuum. The inside was nice and large. The vacuum bags were easy to insert. The large wet/dry vacuum high-efficiency filter has a simple twist installation and removal.

milwaukee m18 cordless wet/dry vacuum plug

There’s also a knob on the side of the Milwaukee M18 FUEL Cordless Wet/Dry Vacuum for when you are using it to clean up liquid spills. Simply turn, twist, and remove. Now you can drain the water from your vacuum instead of needing to lift and pour it out.

milwaukee m18 cordless wet/dry vacuum handle

There is another handle on top. It folds in on itself for easy storage. Despite its size, the Milwaukee M18 FUEL Cordless Wet/Dry Vacuum isn’t heavy. Between this and the large handle, it’s easy and comfortable to move around.

milwaukee m18 cordless wet/dry vacuum tank and cart

These Milwaukee M18 FUEL Cordless Wet/Dry Vacuums come with an interchangeable Wet/Dry Vacuum Cart. The cart rolls on four “independently swiveling and locking reinforced casters” for easy mobility while cleaning. This cart is also interchangeable with the two other Milwaukee M18 FUEL Cordless Wet/Dry Vacuums sizes. So, you will always be able to use the same cart if you ever decide to upgrade to a bigger or smaller vacuum.

Removing and reattaching the tank is easy. On the cart is a foot pedal that locks the tank in place. It manages to keep a good hold on the tank while only needing light force to release it.

milwaukee m18 cordless wet/dry vacuum cupholder with attachments

Another nice feature on the wet/dry vacuum cart are the four built-in accessory storage spaces. Each space is designed to hold Milwaukee vacuum accessories sizes 1-7/8 in. and 2-1/2 in. and AIR-TIP Trade Focused Vacuum Accessories. This is done by creating three different groove sizes all nested within each other at each space.

Again, we have the midsize vacuum. So, all of our attachments fit within the middle groove. We did purchase a few other attachments and played around with fitting those to the cart as well. The vacuum cart was able to hold it all, even with the additional attachments.

milwaukee m18 cordless wet/dry vacuum caster wheels

There are four locking 3″ caster wheels on the bottom of the Wet/Dry Vacuum Cart. The caster wheels make it easy to move the vacuum around. The locks are large and big enough to use your foot to press and lock the wheels.

There is also a Premium Wet/Dry Shop Vacuum Cart available in this versatile line. It has a 3-position push handle and replaces two caster wheels with larger wheels for improved navigation.

There are many, many additional standard attachments available. For this review, we purchased a 16 ft. hose (49-90-1984), and a 3-Piece Hose and Accessory Adaptor Kit (49-90-1991).

And if you REALLY like great accessories you should definitely check out their new AIR-TIP™ Trade Focused Vacuum Accessories line available at The Home Depot. There are several attachments in this line that we’ve all been waiting for someone to offer.

Milwaukee M18 FUELCordless Wet/Dry Vacuum Value

You can buy this Milwaukee M18 FUEL Cordless Wet/Dry Vacuum with the batteries included from The Home Depot for $699 or as a BARE TOOL for $299. In our research, it was hard to compare the Milwaukee M18 FUEL Cordless Wet/Dry Vacuum to available vacuums from major competitors, DeWalt and RIDGID. While each of these brands had vacuums that shared some features of this model, neither had one vacuum that hit all three of Milwaukee’s promises for performance, versatility, and durability.

For those needing a powerful vacuum that is not reliant or restricted by a cord, the Milwaukee M18 FUEL Cordless Wet/Dry Vacuum is perfect. It’s easy to control and move around, and empty or change filters. This level of performance is new for cordless vacuums. And the included M18 REDLITHIUM Batteries with the Dual Bay Simultaneous Rapid Charger are going to provide the continuous, reliable power you are looking for at the end of the day when all you need to do is clean up and go home. But it’s the versatility from the interchangeable motor heads, tanks, carts and various size options that make this vacuum stand out the most.

Milwaukee wanted to deliver a powerful, cordless vacuum that had the versatility to handle any jobsite, and I think Milwaukee delivered. What do you think? Could this Milwaukee M18 Cordless Wet/Dry Vacuum make cleanup easier (or more fun) in your shop?

RIDGID Tools is known for vacuum cleaners that provide enduring quality and suction power.  Today we are going over a particular item in their product line that I’m fond of: the RIDGID NXT Backpack Vacuum.  Typically, “backpack” style vacuums (and other tools) sit well with me.  The decreased amount of bulk and space taken up compared to conventional upright vacuums really pays off in a cluttered workspace.  With less equipment to “drive around”, especially in tight corners and hard-to-reach spots, cleaning gear like the RIDGID NXT Backpack Vacuum merit a closer look.

RIDGID NXT Backpack Vacuum Overview

As alluded to earlier, any backpack vacuum comes with inherent benefits over most upright styles.  First off, there is no pulling hose, no getting caught on corners, and so on.  Overall, it is far easier to navigate and capture dust from every nook and cranny using a backpack than driving an almost cart-like little vehicle around your workspace.  I have vacuumed sawdust, baking soda, outdoor dirt, and God-knows-what-else from carpets, hardwood, and cement floors alike.  Without fail, upright vacuums can leave a little “line” of dirt right against the wall and in tight corners where clutter hinders a “smooth pass” with the upright vacuum brushes.  In such situations, either you resign to a B+ cleaning job or you make a second pass at the wall-hugging dirt with a hose accessory.  Though that isn’t the end of the world, it is an extra step that can be circumvented.  Backpack-style vacuums like the RIDGID NXT Backpack Vacuum reduce this kind of hassle.

RIDGID NXT Backpack Vacuum Features

Some details and considerations to chew on:

  1. The RIDGID NXT Backpack Vacuum is specifically for “dry pickup” cleaning.  Don’t ignore this specification, the vacuum is likely to malfunction if try to use it as a wet-vac. Though a few drops of water won’t kill it, stick to dry jobs.
  2. RIDGID offers a lifetime warranty.
  3. Select specs, per the RIDGID website for this item:
    • RIDGID Model HDB600
    • Filtration system: one cloth filter and two dry paper filters
    • 6-quart drum
    • 20-ft. power cord

RIDGID NXT Backpack Vacuum

The 20-ft. power cord allows plenty of maneuverability.  Unfortunately, there is no battery-powered option with this model, but still, the range afforded by the power cord is respectable.

This backpack vacuum comes with shoulder, waist, and chest straps.  The generous straps ensure comfort for users of almost any size and body shape.  I can appreciate this point; the strap versatility – which I have tried on myself and another test subject – goes a long way to ensure comfort and ease of use.  Though not a core function of vacuuming, long jobs will wear down your patience if the vacuum simply doesn’t “sit right”.  Making ergonomics a high priority in their design was a smart investment by RIDGID that, in my opinion, pays off.

RIDGID NXT Backpack Vacuum

The bright red, large power button is easy to access when the vacuum is strapped to your back.  Also, note the thick power cord design.  Over time, backpack vacuum parts will experience a lot of pulling and tugging, not to mention even possible abrasions to electrical cords.  The thick rubber insulation helps reduce cord kinks and should provide protection and longevity for the life of the cord.

RIDGID NXT Backpack Vacuum

Accessories include two extension wands, a crevice tool, dusting brush, and a floor tool that has your choice of a carpet brush and a floor brush.  With the 4-ft. hose, two extension wands, and your choice of attachments you can definitely reach into those deep corners, high spots, and the like. Extra filters are also included with the initial purchase of the RIDGID NXT Backpack Vacuum.

RIDGID NXT Backpack Vacuum

The hose is made from a harder plastic than I anticipated.  It is 4-ft. in length and is 1-7/8-in. in diameter at the cuff.  You can see the closely-spaced ridges that serve two functions:

  1. Provide mechanical protection from external abrasions.
  2. Provide enduring flexibility and maneuverability without compromising performance.

With any vacuum, you will inevitably have to change the filters.  The RIDGID NXT Backpack Vacuum is designed with a dual filtration system that can process the 153 CFM this model generates.  Cubic Feet per Minute (CFM) is the most direct measure of suction power, which is rendered moot without a compatible filtration system. By comparison to RIDGID’s 153 CFM, the Powr-Flite Pro-Lite Backpack Vacuum only generates 100 CFM.  Even the ProTeam Super CoachVac Backpack Vacuum pulls in a comparable 150 CFM, but for nearly twice the price.

Potential buyers would be well advised to research filtration and CFM in more detail, but to sum it up, a filtration system that can stand up to high CFM – as the RIDGID NXT Backpack Vacuum does – speaks very well for the product.  RIDGID NXT Backpack Vacuum does well in this regard.

I also went through the steps to change filters.  I felt the filters are easy to access and change.  Three metal brackets allow access to the filter.  And no tools required.

RIDGID NXT Backpack Vacuum

One of my favorite design features of this vacuum is that all the accessories lock in place.  Again, I’ve vacuumed more times than I can count with premium as well as budget brands.  Inevitably most extended-reach accessories fall off which is frustrating. This won’t happen with this vacuum.

Another concern I’ve had with vacuums (not this one in particular), is decreased suction power with the addition of accessories.  Airtight seals are critical; during use, vacuum hoses and accessories are pulled on, and banged into corners and furniture all the time.  Whether suddenly or gradually, decreased suctioning power when utilizing accessories has turned me off from many a vacuum model that I might have liked initially. The locking mechanism on the RIDGID NXT Backpack Vacuum’s attachments reduces or almost eliminates suction loss due to poorly sealed connections.

RIDGID NXT Backpack Vacuum

Something interesting I found: it turns out you can place some attachments on the waist belt.  With a complex and long cleaning job, carrying or going back and forth for hose accessories can be very inefficient.  This waist-belt-compatible design feature is great.

RIDGID NXT Backpack Vacuum Performance

RIDGID NXT Backpack Vacuum

Weighing in at 11.6 lb (excluding accessories), the RIDGID NXT Backpack Vacuum is so light, I’m tempted to say that you really don’t need the chest strap.  The waistband does a good job of keeping the backpack vacuum on your hips, supporting the vacuum’s weight without much hassle.  Having said that, we’re aware that customer preferences, body shape, and extent of use will vary, so I appreciate the chest strap to give users extra support as needed.

RIDGID NXT Backpack Vacuum

At first, I thought RIDGID NXT Backpack Vacuum maneuverability and ease of use would be compromised with a harder hose material.  But it turns out that the overall design gives substantial ease of use.

RIDGID NXT Backpack Vacuum

We put the RIDGID NXT Backpack Vacuum through a fair amount of work.  Though we didn’t push performance and durability to the limit, I can say that this backpack vacuum model does a great job at collecting dirt and dust. Also, again I emphasize, this model is a “dry vac” so steer clear of sucking up moisture.

RIDGID NXT Backpack Vacuum Value

This model is available for $249.00 at Home Depot.  All things considered, I think this product from RIDGID offers decent value for the price.  Remember, the RIDGID NXT Backpack Vacuum generates 153 CFM; a very similar competing product generates 150 CFM but costs over $490.00.

RIDGID NXT Backpack Vacuum Wrap Up

I like the RIDGID NXT Backpack Vacuum. For dry pickup jobs, this is a vacuum that is hard to beat considering its power (153 CFM), lock-in-place accessories, reasonable price, and lightweight.

When it comes to job site vacuums, we want something that is tough, has excellent suction and doesn’t break the bank.  Plus a good filtration system is a bonus.  So let’s see how the FLEX cordless vacuum stacks up.

FLEX Cordless Vacuum Overview

If you are not familiar with FLEX Power Tools and who they are, I would suggest reading the FLEX Power Tool Story.

On a job site, we are constantly sucking up debris.  We are not only cleaning up sawdust but we are cleaning up heavier items such as metal shavings, nuts, bolts, and other heavy items, so we want a vacuum that can handle the demand.

Besides dry debris, sometimes we also need to suck up liquid such as a plumber sucking up water.  So again, we need something that can handle a variety of tasks.

Features

Flex Cordless Vacuum

The FLEX Cordless Vacuum (FX5221-Z) is designed to meet the demands of a tough job site. The vacuum has a max airflow of 41 CFM with a 42″ water lift.  Its canister can hold 1.6 gallons of dry debris and offers .8 gallons of wet capacity. The vacuum weighs in at 7.3 lbs.

As with all the other cordless FLEX power tools, this is powered by their 24V battery.  If you are not familiar with FLEX battery technology, it has heat management which means it can dissipate heat quickly and keep the battery protected and prolong usage length time and the life of the battery.

Flex Cordless Vacuum

The on/off can easily be controlled from the top of the vacuum.  The vacuum offers high and low usage settings via the toggle switch.

For this size vacuum, it has the longest hose I have seen, which comes in at 8′.  The 1-1/4″ diameter hose is flexible and easy to work with.

Flex Cordless Vacuum

One great feature is the handle on top of the vacuum.  Not only does it make it easy to carry but the handle design is comfortable.

The FLEX Cordless Vacuum comes with multiple accessories including an 8′ Flexible Hose, 1-1/4″ to 1-3/8″ Hose Adapter, Round Brush, Utility Nozzle, Crevice Tool, Washable HEPA Filter, and Carrying Strap.  The vacuum has a great storage system for all its tools, including the hose, so they are easy to access when needed and out of the way when not in use.

Flex Cordless Vacuum

FLEX didn’t leave anything to chance.  When they designed this tool, they designed it with a wide base so it’s not tipping over all the time, which as we know can be annoying.

To access the canister, there are two large latches to unlock it.  You will be able to access the HEPA filter and the bag.  The HEPA filter will capture 99.97% of particles which we all know is extremely important on job sites.

Flex Cordless Vacuum

With any filter, they can get covered in debris causing the vacuum to lose suction.  Instead of having to turn the vacuum off, open it up, and clean the filter, FLEX designed a very handy feature; all a user needs to do when the filter needs cleaning, is just push down this button and the vacuum will produce an internal “backdraft” that cleans some of the debris off and helps improve suction.

Flex Cordless Vacuum

The inside of the canister is large and as you can see, there is support to make the canister tough and not flexible which can cause stress and cracking.

Performance

Overall this is a powerful vacuum.  As you can see it cleans up large amounts of waste quickly and easily.  We sucked up water without any issues and even sucked up some smaller nuts and bolts, again, without issue.

The broad variety of accessories make all types of cleaning jobs, work or personal, easier tasks.

Value

You can pick this up at your local Lowes for $119 as a bare tool.  If you own the FLEX line, this is a great deal.  If you have to buy a battery and charger, obviously you will pay more.

For $119, this is less expensive than other professional manufactures’  vacuums.  So yes, this is a good deal when compared side by side to other similar vacuums.

Final Thoughts

Overall this is a good vacuum.  The vacuum is powerful and with the HEPA filter, this makes a perfect job site vacuum.  I like how it has a cleaning filter button and how the hose and all accessories store away nicely.  For $119 it would be hard to find a better deal or a better vacuum.

Having a cordless vacuum will certainly make your life easier.  You can clean up small messes and not have to worry about plugging in a cord and only having a small range of movement which is limited by the length of the power cord. So let’s take a look at this Milwaukee Cordless Vacuum.

Milwaukee Cordless Vacuum Overview

When it comes to job site vacuums, I think Milwaukee is one of the top performers for an 18V vacuum.  While I love the Hilti, the Hilti also carries a hefty price tag compared to Milwaukee.  So for the Money, Milwaukee makes a great vacuum.

I owned the first-generation Milwaukee vacuum, the 0880-20 (which is the same model number as this version).  I think I bought that vacuum back in 2011 and have been using it ever since.  So why did I upgrade?

I was cleaning my truck and the nozzle got stuck under the seat.  As I tried to free up the nozzle, the end broke off.  Looking around it was about $50 for a replacement which is crazy money so I decided to upgrade and here we are.

Milwaukee Cordless Vacuum Features

The Milwaukee cordless vacuum, Model 0880-20 is both a wet and dry vacuum which means you can pick up pretty much any mess.  The vacuum offers 45 CFM and a 32″ water lift which is powerful for a small vacuum.

The vacuum is powered by the M18 battery.  While you can use any of the M18 batteries, the 9Ah battery will give you about 30 minutes of run time.

Milwaukee Cordless Vacuum

Milwaukee placed a built-in handle and the on/off toggle switch on the top of the vacuum. (I don’t like the placement of the on/off switch, more on that below.)

Milwaukee Cordless Vacuum

The top lid locks in place with two heavy-duty plastic latches.

Milwaukee Cordless Vacuum

Once you open the top, you have access to the hose.  The hose stores nicely and is easy to access.  For me, I like this setup.  On the old vacuum, the hose was on the outside and it would often fall down when moving it around.

Milwaukee Cordless Vacuum

Once you take the hose out, you can easily access both the attachments and the battery.

Milwaukee Cordless Vacuum

The vacuum comes with a flexible hose, crevice tool, utility nozzle, and a certified HEPA filter.

Milwaukee Cordless Vacuum

The flexible hose is 6 ft. long and has a diameter of 1-1/4 in.

To clean out the waste bin, there are latches on each side.  Giving you have access to empty the 2-gallon bin and/or clean-off the HEPA filter.

Milwaukee Cordless Vacuum Performance

As I noted earlier, this vacuum is one of my favorites because of its power.  I like the box design so it’s easy to store.  As you can see from above, it can easily suck up these larger nuts without any issue.  So as long as it fits through the 1-1/4″ nozzle, the vacuum will suck it up.

Milwaukee Cordless Vacuum

I do have one complaint about the vacuum and that is where the on/off toggle switch is located.  For me, it’s backward.  As you can see the hose comes out the left side.  When the lid is closed, the handle is in the middle and the on/off switch is to the right.  So as you are using this vacuum and holding on to it, the hose is in front of you.  With the on/off sitting behind the handle, you always need two hands to turn it on and off.  If they would have put the on/off switch on the other side of the handle, you could hold the vacuum and use your thumb to turn it on and off making it much easier to work with.

Milwaukee Cordless Vacuum Value

For a bare tool expect to pay $120.  Considering how much use I got out of the first generation, this is worth every penny.  I like how the tools and hose are now stored inside and love the power.  So for $120, it’s a great value.

Milwaukee Cordless Vacuum Wrap Up

Bottom line you can’t go wrong with this Milwaukee.  For the price, it has great power and I like its tool storage.  If you need something that is a step up, I would go with the Hilti but you will pay about $225 but you get a vacuum that has 2 speeds, manual filter cleaning, and a bag, plus a bigger waster container and longer hose.

When it comes to Greenworks what do you think of?  For me, I think OPE, Outdoor Power Equipment.  I think of lawnmowers, blowers, trimmers, and more.  I think pressure washers and garden carts, but I don’t think of vacuums.  In fact, if you would have asked me if a vacuum was in the works for Greenworks, I would have said no.  That’s just not what I think of when I think Greenworks.  But here we are so let’s jump into the Greenworks Vacuum.

Greenworks Vacuum Information

When it comes to vacuum, my top pick is Ridgid or Dewalt.  I love the power, the reliability, and the ease of use.  So I never thought about switching to another brand.  Well, at least not until I tried the Greenworks Pro 60V Wet Dry vacuum, model 4700502.  Before I jump in and tell you why, let’s take a look at the features of this vacuum.

Greenworks Vacuum Features

The Greenworks Pro is a 9-gallon wet dry vacuum designed for power and portability.  The vacuum produces air speeds of up to 90 cfm and perfect for any job site. The vacuum weighs in at about 20 lbs.

One of the best features is that the vacuum can be powered by either two 60V batteries or you can use the 120V power cord which is 10′ long.  While the vacuum is a bare tool, you can buy 2 batteries and a dual charger separately.

As you can see by the pictures at the top, the batteries are placed on top of the vacuum so you can easily access them.

The on/off is a twist knob with the off position in the middle.  You can turn left or right to indicate if you want to use plug-in power or cordless power. If you run on batteries, you can expect around 30 minutes of run time.

The vacuum features a flexible hose that feels sturdy. The hose is 7′ long by 1-7/8″ in diameter.

The caster swivel which will allow you to move around in any direction.

On the bottom of the vacuum, there is a drain plug that you can remove to empty any liquids you sucked up.

Need accessories?  The vacuum has two extensions, a floor, and a crevice tool.  You can store them above the casters or on the back of the vacuum in the accessory holder.

On top of the vacuum, there is a handle that makes it easy to pick up and move from the bed or your truck to the ground.

All the accessories and hose has a convenient and easy to store when not in use.

Greenworks Vacuum Performance

So why do I love this vacuum.  First, the build quality is top-notch. The vacuum is built to last.  The vacuum doesn’t feel cheap and no flexible parts that will break.

Second, I like that it’s hybrid so I can plug it in and have unlimited run time.  If I want to work for 30 minutes or less, I can run it off the batteries and not have to deal with the power cord.

Third, the vacuum is powerful.  It’s not a gimmick vacuum.  This is a strong vacuum that will suck up and compete with the more expensive vacuum.  I would even argue that it can outwork them in regards to power.

So for those reasons, that is why I am a huge fan of this vacuum and why it’s my top pick.

So is there anything I would change?  Sure, two things.  First I wish the wheels were a little bigger.  While it still rolls over an extension cord and debris on the floor, I just have this thing stuck in my head that bigger wheels are better.  Will it make a difference on this vacuum, probably not since it rolls great.

Second, it would be nice if I could plug in this vacuum when not in use and it would charge the batteries.  I am sure that would make the vacuum bigger and it really isn’t practical, but a man can wish, can’t he?

Greenworks Vacuum Value

This vacuum is priced at $130 as a bare tool.  I think for the price, it’s a great deal.  If you have to buy the batteries and a charger, then you are talking about a much higher price point.  But if you are investing in the Greenworks 60V line, this is a no-brainer addition to your line of tools.  So far, all the 60V tools we have tested, have beaten our expectations and it’s a great line to invest in.

Greenworks Vacuum Final Thoughts

Bottom line, this is my favorite vacuum on the market.  I like the power, the ease of use, the quality, and the hybrid options.  This has more power than I would expect and for those looking for a great vacuum with a good price tag, this is the vacuum to own, especially if you already have Greenworks 60V batteries.

A while back we reviewed the Hilti Cordless Vacuum.  While most power tool manufacturers offer some type of cordless vacuum, the Hilti has been one of our top picks for a variety of reasons.  Since we like it so much and decided to get another one, we thought it would be a great time to revisit this vacuum and let you know why this is one of our favorites.  So let’s jump in and talk about the Hilti cordless vacuum, the good and the bad of this vacuum.

Hilti Cordless Vacuum – Information

Revisit Information

So let’s jump in and see what makes this such a great vacuum.

Hilti Cordless Vacuum

First and foremost is the A22 battery.  Hilti uses a 22V battery to power this vacuum while most other manufacturers use a 20V.  While it’s not a huge difference, it’s still a difference.  If you want to increase the run time, you can jump up to a bigger Ah battery.  We have been using the 3Ah battery and it has great run time.

Hilti Cordless Vacuum

Turing the vacuum on and off is also simple.  There is a dial at the top of the vacuum and it lets you choose from Eco mode which will save the battery to the full mode which will increase suction if you have heavier material to pick up.  Having the dial at the top means you can just look down and turn the vacuum on.  Some have the power switch on the side and it makes it more cumbersome to turn on and off.

Hilti Cordless Vacuum

Another great feature that we haven’t seen on other portable vacuums this size is the ability to clean the filter.  Just press the button at the top, under the handle and it will thump the vacuum and clean the filter off so you get better suction.  This is very handy if you are working with concrete or other fine dust that sits on the filter.

As a note, you still have to occasionally go in and clean and change the filter.

Hilti Cordless Vacuum

Next is the storage of this vacuum.  The hose is the best hose we have seen because not only does it stretch out farther than other hoses but storing the hose is easy and it always stays in place, even when transporting the vacuum.  While most vacuums come with the floor attachment, this also comes with a crevice tool.  All the tools are securely stored and allow for easy access.  No having to lift up doors to access accessories, they are all right at your fingertips.

Hilti Cordless Vacuum

The dirt collection is on the bottom of the vacuum.  There are two latches that allow you easy access.  While most have this setup, the Hilti is easy to remove and put back on when compared to other vacuums we have used.

Hilti Cordless Vacuum

As you can see once you take the bottom off, you can easily change or clean the filter.

Hilti Cordless Vacuum

The biggest plus of this system is the bag.  I love this and it’s the only small vacuum I have seen that uses a bag.  So if you are picking up drywall dust, using this with a concrete tool, or just cleaning up a mess, everything is contained.  Just pull the bag out and toss it in the garbage.  Other systems that don’t have a bag only cause a mess.  You have to take the bottom tray and dump it into the garbage where all the particles are now suspended in the air, what good is that?  For me, the bag makes this vacuum.

So as you can see, this vacuum has a lot to offer that no other vacuums on the market can compare to.  Even though this is a small portable cordless vacuum, it has many features that the bigger vacuums offer.

So what don’t I like about this vacuum?  For me, I can’t think of anything I don’t like about this vacuum.  I wish I could come up with something but that says a lot about the design of the vacuum because I can’t find anything I don’t like.  It even has a crevice tool which most don’t come with one.

Hilti Cordless Vacuum – Wrap Up

Overall this is a great vacuum.  The vacuum is powerful, easy to use, creates storage solutions for the hose and accessories and it comes with many features only found in bigger and more expensive vacuums.  If you are looking for a cordless vacuum, Hilti is the way to go.  Even if you don’t have a battery and charger for the platform, it makes sense to invest in this vacuum as it will not disappoint. When it comes to vacuums, this is one of our top picks.

Today we are going to cover the Hart Hand Vac.  If you are not familiar with Hart Tools, I would suggest learning more about them here – Hart Power Tools.  Hart is an exclusive tool brand at Walmart.  Hart has a history and is one of the companies that is backed by a larger company so they have the know-how and experience to make not only good tools but a reliable battery platform.

Hart Hand Vac Information

Hart Hand Vac Features

Hart Hand Vac

The vacuum is lightweight and designed for clean up around the house, clean up in your workshop or for your automobile.  The vacuum is great for quick clean up jobs.

The vacuum is powered by the Hart 20V battery which powers a wide range of other power tools.

Hart Hand Vac

The tool is turned on and off by a slide switch.  So no holding a button or trigger on.  Just turn it to on and the vacuum will stay on until you turn it off.

Hart Hand Vac

To take the canister off to clean the filter or empty the canister, there is a push-button located just in front of the on/off switch.

As you can see, the vacuum has plenty of filters to stop larger items from getting to the smaller filter and clogging it up and lowering the suction.  Plus the filters are easy to clean.

The vacuum comes with three attachments and a 2′ hose.

Hart Hand Vac Impressions

As you can see, what is not to like about the suction of this vacuum.  We did a small area to show the before and after difference.

Hart Hand Vac

The vacuum picked up a lot of dirt and having the multiple filters is a huge benefit.

While I love the power, the ergonomics, and the attachments, the one thing I would like to see changed is the hose.  The hose is plastic so while it flexes, it’s stiff.  I would love to see a hose that is less stiff and a hose that retracts and expands.

Other than that, I think it’s a great vacuum for household project clean ups, around the shop and cleaning out your automobile.

Hart Hand Vac Wrap Up

If you are part of the Hart line, this is a great addition.  Yes, I would like to see a higher quality hose but again, the vacuum is only $49.  I love how it comes with an extra filter and the vacuum is powerful, so what is not to like about this vacuum?

How do you keep your shop or other areas clean?  For me, I have a couple of vacuums but they are all the box style vacuums.  The box style is great for quick pickups but if I have to vacuum a larger space, it’s a pain in the knees.  Stick vacuums have been an option but not all stick vacuums are great.  I have only found a couple that I really like.  Well that all changed with the Makita vacuum and the Cyclonic attachment.  I found a system that is not only powerful but has a great runtime and really works well.  So let’s take a look at the Makita Cyclonic Cordless Vacuum.

Makita Cyclonic Cordless Vacuum Overview

I haven’t counted the Sku’s in each power tool manufacturers line up but I believe Makita has the largest line of vacuums.  They have everything from corded dust extractors to cordless backpack vacuums to stick vacs and more.  They offer vacuums in both the 12V line as well as the 18V line.

Today we are looking at a two-piece system.  The Makita XLC02Zb is a stick vacuum based on the 18V battery and has been available for a while.  The vacuum is a great vacuum and has gotten great reviews.  Recently Makita released a Cyclonic attachment (199553-5) for better performance and better dust management.  This is a small container that integrated with the XLC02ZB.

Makita Cyclonic Cordless Vacuum Features

Makita Cyclonic Cordless Vacuum

The Makita cordless vacuum, model XLC02ZB is a bagless 2-stage cloth filtration system. The vacuum only weighs 3.2 lbs and is designed for anything from clean a shop, to a truck to an RV or anything else you need to clean.

The motor delivers 46 CFM which is powerful for a small cordless vacuum.

Makita Cyclonic Cordless Vacuum

The vacuum is a three-piece system with the motor and canister, then you have the extension rod and that ties into the head attachment.

While you can use other 18V Makita batteries in the vacuum, it works best with a 5Ah battery and will give it around 33 minutes of runtime.

Makita Cyclonic Cordless Vacuum

To turn on and off the vacuum, there is a simple trigger you depress, jst like a drill.

Cleaning and emptying the vacuum is very easy.  All the filters are easy to clean and install.

Makita Cyclonic Cordless Vacuum

The Cyclonic can be purchased separately or in a kit.  For me, I think this is a cool add on as it captures up to 90% of the debris that enters.  This means that the main canister stays clean and free of debris which means longer runtimes and fewer cleaning filters.

The Cyclonic is easy to install.  The unit installs between the main canister head and the long wand.  The canister will rotate 360 degrees so it never gets in the way when vacuuming.

Makita Cyclonic Cordless Vacuum

Depress two buttons and the canister is ready to cleanout.  Very simple to install, very simple to clean and real performance enhancement with the cordless vacuum.

Makita Cyclonic Cordless Vacuum Performance

We used the vacuum for a while at my house and around the shop.  Above is one example.  As you can see it’s a doorway where there is a lot of foot traffic and it grinds in the dirt.  People are walking in from the woodshop which has a ton of dust on the floor and also other debris and then it gets stepped on over the last week.

As you can see, it really does an awesome job of picking up the dust and other small debris that has been hit with heavy foot traffic.

Makita Cyclonic Cordless Vacuum

What really amazed me was that the vacuum didn’t have any dirt in the container.  This means that the filter isn’t getting clogged up and reducing suction or causing more wear and tear on the vacuum.

All the dirt and debris were collected in the Cyclonic compartment which is easy to dump and lets the air flow freely to the top vacuum unit.

For all the time we used it, the battery life was great as we were using it with a 5Ah battery.  Time and time again it did a great job picking up dirt.  Sure it wasn’t picking up large screws but let’s face it, most large vacuums don’t even pick up large screws.  For your daily dirt and debris, it does an awesome job.

Makita Cyclonic Cordless Vacuum Value

You can pick up the vacuum and Cyclonic vacuum for $105 on Amazon.  If you own the vacuum and just want to buy the Cyclonic attachment, you can expect to pay about $35.  However, if you just want the cordless vacuum, that will run about $70 as a bare tool.

For me, I think $105 is a good value to have a vacuum that really works, has a decent runtime and I don’t have to worry about dragging a cord around, it’s worth the cost.  Now if you are not in the Makita line, the batteries will really make the price jump and not sure if I would be a buyer.  But if you are in Makita tools or going to invest in the Makita line up, it’s worth the cost.

Makita Cyclonic Cordless Vacuum Wrap Up

Makita probably has the largest line of cordless vacuum.  They have the experience and build quality to back it up.  Considering the cordless vacuum was a leader in its pack, adding the Cyclonic makes it that much more of the leader of the pack.  Strong suction, low noise, and great runtimes make this a buy for anyone who wants to clean up when they are done with a job, clean their shop, clean their truck or all the other places you want to keep clean.

So here is the deal.  I reviewed this Ridgid vacuum a while back, here is the link – Ridgid Pro Pack Vacuum Review.  However, I am currently remodeling my house and a lot of people have seen the vacuum on our stories and videos.  One after another, people have asked how the vacuum has been holding up and how do I like it?  So we teamed up with The Home Depot to give you a quick overview of the vacuum and put it back on your radar for the people who have been asking about it and the people who are not familiar with this vacuum.

Ridgid Vacuum – Information

Ridgid Vacuum – Features

The Ridgid vacuum is designed for the job site and designed for heavy-duty use.  Here are some of the features this vacuum has to offer the user:

  • 5 HP motor (peak)
  • 4.5-gallon tank
  • 3 layer filter
  • 20′ power cord
  • Comes with 3 different accessories
  • Toolbox design for easy storage and transport in a truck
  • 7′ rubber hose

Ridgid Vacuum – Impressions

So there are features I love about this vacuum and some things I would like to see changed.  First, the pros.  I love the power, the size, the shape, the attachments and the hose.

For the size of the vacuum, it’s very powerful.  Speaking of size, it’s a small vacuum but the best part is the shape.  This vacuum is shaped like a box which means you can store things on top of when it’s sitting around or you are transporting it in your truck.  I also love how the hose locks in place so when you drag the vacuum around by the hose while cleaning, the hose doesn’t come out.

The handle is nice and big, plus it’s lightweight so if you are cleaning high places, no issues on reaching them while holding the vacuum.

So two things I would like to see changed.  First, I wish this vacuum had a bag.  I have been using some vacuums with bags and it’s so simple cleaning up and keeping your filters clean.  I would love this option.  Second is the door for the attachments.  Sometimes, I find them hard to open up when you are trying to access attachments. Other than those two items, I love this vacuum.

Ridgid Vacuum – Final Thoughts

Overall, this vacuum has been awesome for the job I have been using it for.  I have been using it on my house remodel for simple clean-ups before spraying paint, to larger jobs like cleaning up debris after demo jobs.  Each time the vacuum has performed and sucked up things I didn’t think it would.  I love the long extension cord as it creates less hassle.  I think Ridgid did a great job with the design and power that this vacuum has.

As technology gets better, so does the understanding of the human body.  What makes it tick, what makes it better and what hurts our body.  Over the years we have been finding out that our bodies, while incredibly strong, there are things, even things we don’t see that hurt us.  One of the biggest issues is lung cancer from breathing in fine particles we can’t even see.  So it’s important that we protect our bodies so that is why I am talking about the Bosch GAS20-17A vacuum.  Not only can this dust extractor protect you but it can keep your shop clean, your work area clean and make your life more pleasant.

Bosch GAS20-17A Dust Extractor – Information

Bosch GAS20-17A Dust Extractor – Features

There are a lot of dust extractors in the market but very few have this type of power and build quality, along with the features.

  • 17.5 Amp motor
  • 300 CFM
  • On-Board Automatic filter cleaning activates every 15 seconds
  • HEPA filter captures 99.97% of particles at 0.3 microns and larger
  • Drain Hose
  • Metal frame
  • large wheels and casters
  • 16 Ft. 35mm anti-static hose
  • 20 Amp plug
  • Static water lift 96″
  • Fold-down push handle

Bosch GAS20-17A Dust Extractor – Impressions

So here is the deal with this dust extractor.  I am in the process of remodeling my house and one item on my list is to grind up the paint on my basement floor and also cut a trench in the floor for some pipe.  I did a lot of research and this was the vacuum that stuck out to me, not just because of the safety and Hepa filter.  I went with this vacuum because of the power, the build quality, Bosch’s reputation and size.  So when you ask me my first impression, I am obviously going to say I all ready like because I know what’s out there and don’t think much can compete with this unit.  I will be doing the floors soon and will revisit this as a review but wanted to get you some information to start with.

Right off the bat, I love the quality of the unit.  I love the metal frame for durability and the large back wheels along with the front casters.  This set up makes it roll nicely, even over debris and cords.  I love how long the hose is which means I am not fighting the dust extractor and trying to pull it around when the hose gets tight.  Same goes for the long power cord.  Again, it’s just fewer hassles and fewer struggles with a long hose and power cord.  For me, that would be enough to buy this dust extractor but there is more to like about this unit.

I love how large the tank is so it’s doesn’t fill up quickly.  While I won’t be using it for water, it does have a nice lift capability along with easy emptying.  What I have found out so far by just picking up sawdust around the shop, the 15-second blowback is a great feature as the dust extractor doesn’t lose power.

The top comes off easy and it’s easy to lower the push handle, but I usually just leave it up unless I have to store it under my workbench and need the room.

Dust extractors aren’t the most exciting tool in the world, but I am excited to get started on my basement floor and see how this performs under real-world conditions.  I have no doubt it will perform like a champ with concrete givings Bosch’s reputation, but it’s always nice to see first hand.

Bosch GAS20-17A Dust Extractor – Wrap Up

While this extractor excels in multiple applications, I think it really shines for concrete cutting and concrete grinding.  With the findings of Silica and cancer, a quality dust extractor is a must on any jobsite.  The unit is powerful, efficient at cleaning the air and worth every penny to help keep you safe.

Makita has one of the largest lines out of any power tool manufacturer.  They are also doing something that no other manufacturer is doing, creating a line of a single battery.  While other manufacturers want you to buy a 12V tool, an 18V tool, and a 36V tool, Makita is working to create a single line.  They have a subcompact that rivals any 12V for size and they have a 36V that rivals any 36V power and best of all, they all run off their 18V battery platform.  So speaking of a large platform, let’s jump into the Makita Cordless Vacuum Review.

Makita Cordless Vacuum Review Overview

Most manufacturers make some type of portable cordless vacuum.  The need to clean up after the job is done and present a clean worksite is a must, plus let’s not forget being able to clean up your vehicles. So there is definitely a need for this type of tool.

While you think it would be easy to create a portable vacuum, it’s definitely not.  A portable vacuum needs to be small but powerful. A vacuum needs to have ample run time and also be quiet.  It has to have plenty of suction but must protect the air it’s returning and the list goes on.  So when you think of a vacuum, think about all the stuff that needs to be perfect in order to create a top performing vacuum.

Makita Cordless Vacuum Review Features

The XCV11Z uses a brushless motor and delivers 57 CFM with a 27″ water lift.  The unit as a whole weighs in at 10.1 lbs.

You can power this vacuum with any of the Makita 18V star batteries. A 5Ah battery will give this about a 60 minute run time.

Makita Cordless Vacuum Review

On the front of the vacuum, there is not only a battery status gauge but you can power up the unit to two different modes.

Makita Cordless Vacuum Review

Makita designed this with decent hose management.  You can easily access and store the hose on the side of the vacuum.

Makita Cordless Vacuum Review

Makita uses a flexible hose.

Makita Cordless Vacuum Review

One huge feature is the hose locks into the vacuum so if you pull on the hose, it will not pull out of the vacuum hose.

To access the 2-gallon waste bin, there are two latches on each side of the vacuum.

Another great feature is the onboard accessories.  You can easily access the crevice and floor tool.

The vacuum has a HEPA filter that captures 99.97% of particles .3 microns and larger.  Pretty awesome.

Makita Cordless Vacuum Review Performance

I talked to one of my buddies who owns this vacuum and his one complaint was the lack of power. I did also see a complaint on Amazon about power.  This is where I am a little lost.  For me, I love the power and think it has plenty of power for the size.  I am not sure if they are comparing it to a full-size dust extractor or what.  As noted earlier, I have a couple of box vacuums and this is right in line with the power of the other vacuums, so I am not seeing a power problem.

As far as dust, yes it easily picks up dust, sawdust and more.  With the HEPA filter, I can not see anything coming out of the backport.

Sawdust is lightweight and easy to pick up so we tried some stuff that was a little heavier such as washers, screws, and nails, things you would find laying around.  Again, it sucked them up without any issues.  Now it’s not going to suck up bricks, but that is not what it is designed to do.  This is a vacuum for the job site to clean up when you are done, to clean up your vehicle and more.

Two of my favorite features are how easy it is to access the accessories.  I don’t have to open up a compartment to access the accessories, which is huge.

The other feature I love is the battery status gauge.  Again, I don’t have to open a compartment to check the status or mess around.

Some people might be a little disappointed it doesn’t come with a strap but I have always used a handle so this is great for my needs.

Makita Cordless Vacuum Review Value

You can pick this vacuum up for about $170 on Amazon.  In regards to price, it’s a fair price.  If you own the Makita line, this is a nice pick-up.  However, if you are not part of the family, you will need to invest in a battery and charger so not sure if that is worth the cost.

Makita Cordless Vacuum Review Final Thoughts

I have a couple of vacuums like this box vacuum and they are always my go-to vacuums.  They are easy to carry around and powerful and have decent run time.  The Makita is no different.  I like the power, I love the HEPA filter and I love the onboard accessories and how easy they are to access compared to other vacuums like this. Overall, this is a great vacuum.

When you think of vacuums there are a few manufacturers that always comes to mind. For both homeowners and professionals alike, Ridgid is on top of the game. Known for their incredible suction, long life, and a great value, Ridgid is one of the top names in the vacuum world. This model takes a spin on their classic vacuums and puts the motor on the bottom of the unit instead of being housed in the lid, does it work? Let’s take a look in the Ridgid 1650RV Vacuum Review.

Ridgid 1650RV Vacuum Review Overview

Ridgid has been making shop vacuums for a long time, and with a slew of options from compact, cordless, to wet/dry to HEPA vacuums and beyond. There is a lot to choose on based on what you need so if one thing is for sure, you will always find what you need with Ridgid.

So, why put the motor on the bottom? Well, this has a few benefits. If you’ve ever struggled to get a heavy motor off when emptying a vacuum only to have dust and debris fly everywhere you know dangerous dust and chemicals can be released into the air. This design has its drawbacks, but for the right user, it is a very interesting option that can provide a lot of benefits.

Ridgid 1650RV Vacuum Review Performance

I genuinely loved this vacuum. When I requested to review this vacuum I did so because curiosity of the bottom motor won out. Is it perfect? Not quite, but its still pretty darn impressive.

Emptying vacuums like these are tough, no matter where the motor is located it is awkward and messy, which make even the best vacuums on the market a little tedious. With this Ridgid, you are able to remove the canister from the motor which means less weight when trying to empty the canister.  While the handle can still be a little awkward when emptying, it much easier than trying to empty with the motor in place. The separation from the motor and the canister is a great convenience.

In the end, though, the solution is available in bags. Available separately, vacuum bags eliminate all the frustration I had on this front. For a long time, I opted to not use vacuum bags in my shop and to be honest, I am not sure why. No matter where the motor lies they provide a convenient option to empty a large capacity vacuum without all the mess.

I loved the top handle design as well, and while the wheels held some slight negatives in emptying the vacuum I felt they were comfortable and easy to pull around the shop and provided less sticking when going over small items like cords that commonly cause issues for most vacuum wheels. I love the bottom on/off switch which makes turning it on and off a hands-free operation.

The suction is amazing, nothing stood in its way in terms of pick up. Fine dust, small debris and the like all cleaned up easy. The hoses smooth interior did seem to prevent clogging and keep the hose cleaner, something all users will value. The attachments add a lot of functionality that I appreciated a lot. My favorite was definitely the floor tool. For all the vacuums I have reviewed and used, this one attachment had a rubber edge that allowed incredible pick up of fine dust particles. I have seen this feature before, but it performed better than others have in my experience.

Ridgid 1650RV Vacuum Review Value

This vacuum is priced competitively for a unit of its power. Running just under 200 dollars on Amazon, this vacuum is well worth its price. While it is slightly more expensive than traditionally designed models from Ridgid, it does have a longer lasting motor that is designed for more industrial applications. The price point is still less than comparable models from other brands. This vacuum has incredible power, suction and unique features some users will see a lot of value in.

Ridgid 1650 RV Vacuum Review Final Thoughts

The Ridgid Bottom Motor Vacuum is an excellent option for a wide range of users. While this vacuum leans more towards what a professional will require, for a heavy user, homeowners will like the performance and features as well. Quieter than most, excellent accessories and easy to maneuver wheel design all stand out as exceptional features. Ridgid has always been known for their well-performing vacuums, and this one is no exception to that reputation.
