What is the Hammer Fist?  The Hammer Fist is a multi-tool that allows a user to perform a wide range of tasks, with the primary intended use being a hammer and nailer puller.  However, this isn’t your traditional hammer and claw tool.  This has a unique design that allows it to fit in your hand and offer more control with less weight, hence the name, Hammer Fist.  This design doesn’t just break the mold of a hammer, but it offers some other useful tool functions that are integrated right into the Hammer Fist.

Hammer Fist – Features

The Hammer Fist weighs in at 12 oz. and is made with ABS plastic for durability and longevity.

Hammer Fist

The integrated rubber grip on the Hammer Fist serves several purposes. First and foremost, it provides a comfortable and secure grip for the user, allowing them to maintain control of the tool during use. Additionally, the rubber grip helps to absorb shock and prevent slippage, which can be especially important when striking hard surfaces.

As you can see a thick metal plate covers two sides and one 90° corner.

Hammer Fist

While you can “hammer” or “strike” on three sides, one end is covered with the metal plate for “hard” strikes and the other is the ABS plastic for “soft”, non-marring strikes.  So as you grip the tool, you can easily control where and how you hit the item you are trying to sink, such as a nail, drywall anchor, or many other items.

Hammer Fist

Besides hammering, another cool feature is the 90° angle. This is very convenient when you need to position your materials correctly and/or check your work for accuracy. You can also use it to assist in holding and positioning your materials during your project.

Hammer Fist

On the bottom, there are marks for measuring.  One side is Metric and the other is SAE.

When it comes to hammering nails, you will inevitably need to pull a few as well.  So they integrated a nailer puller on the bottom of the tool.

They even thought about different types of attachments so you can put a bit into the hex slot and use this with screws if needed or other accessories that use hex bits.

Hammer Fist

While I think this is a cool tool and offers a lot of features, one of my favorites is the bottle opener.  Because if you are like me, after a job, I like to sit back with a cold one and admire my work.

Hammer Fist Wrap Up

For the homeowner, this is a great tool to have around for smaller projects.  The fact that this tool has multiple functions makes it a handy solution for a variety of jobs around the house.  It is a quality tool that is made to last.

When it comes to hand tools, there are a lot of different brands to pick from.  Over the years we have covered everything from top-end hand tools for professionals to lower, less expensive homeowner-brand tools.  Today we are going to cover a brand that is new to our channel, PB Swiss Hand Tools.  So let’s take a look.

PB Swiss Hand Tools Overview

A year ago I was in Switzerland checking out Hilti and the launching of their new Nuron Power Tool Platform.  While I was over there, I had some time to myself to travel around.  After a couple of days, I noticed PB Swiss Tools, I felt like they were everywhere. I saw them in contractors’ tool bags, I saw them being used at the train station, and I saw them sitting out at a number of ski lifts.  I let my curiosity get the best of me so, at one of the ski lifts, I had to check them out.  Picking them up, you could feel the quality.  The grip was nice, and the screwdrivers had some good weight and great balance, something you can work with all day.

PB Swiss was a name I never heard of before.  I thought it was just a local Swiss tool company and after feeling the quality, I was wondering why they weren’t all over the world.  Well, it turns out, they are all over the world and they are looked at as being some of the best hand tools money can buy.

So we had to get some in our hands and talk about them.  I have asked people in the states if they have ever heard of them and a majority have told me “no”.  Of the people I found that have heard of them, I noticed the smiles came, and then the stories came.  I heard time and time again, how they love these hand tools and they are pretty much the only hand tools they trust.

So who is PB Swiss Tools?  PB Swiss tools are offered in over 85 countries and used by specialists in the aerospace industry, medical sector, and more.  They are a family-owned business that focuses on quality and innovation.  Their start dates back to 1878 with the first screwdriver being developed in 1940, so they have a lot of experience.  They offer over 3,000 different items in their family of tools.

  • 100% Swiss Made – When it comes to quality, the Swiss take it seriously and make some of the best quality products in the world.  All PB Swiss products are made in-house which means they have hands-on for all the materials, quality control, and every aspect you need to stay in touch with to produce the best.
  • Lifetime Guarantee – Because they have their hands on everything, they can offer you a true unlimited guarantee with each individual tool they offer.

PB Swiss Hand Tools Performance

Performance is hard to adequately explain in an article.  In all honesty, this is a brand of tools you just have to get in your hands and try.  I really like the feel.  They have great balance and I like the weight.  Best of all, I like the grip.  There is something about them that just feels nice in my hands when using them.  Everything about them screams quality to me.

PB Swiss Hand Tools Value

When it comes to value, you get what you pay for.  PB Swiss is priced around the same as some of the competition like Wera.  And yes, you can always get cheaper hand tools, but you will notice the difference.  If you work with hand tools and depend on them, PB Swiss is worth the investment.  They are quality tools that are built to perform and built to last.

PB Swiss Hand Tools Wrap Up

For me, it’s amazing that I had never heard of PB Swiss before my trip.  Now looking at them and working with them, they are my favorite hand tool brand.  I like the quality, the balance, and the feel.  I am not saying they are for everyone, but for those who want quality tools, these are a must.  If you don’t believe me, find someone who owns them and get their opinion.  I bet you will hear the same response I did, over and over again, and the excitement people have is PB Swiss Tools is genuine and well deserved.

New Milwaukee Hand Tools Features

  • Smoothpull head geometry offers leverage
  • Wear-resistant grip increases
  • Beveled edge provides better access
  • Low profile
  • Shockshield grip for less vibrations

New Milwaukee Hand Tools Impressions

The first thing I noticed was the rubber grip on all three tools.  Usually, you just see a piece of steel.  While the grips aren’t a must, they certainly are a nice added feature.

The polished steel makes these look real attractive compared to some of the competitors.

Are these truly better than the competitors?  It’s hard to tell when it’s just a piece of steel.  For me, they both will get the job done.  What I do like is the added grip as you normally don’t see that with these types of hand tools.

New Milwaukee Hand Tools Wrap Up

Hand tools aren’t just hand tools.  There are differences.  You have to look around and find what’s comfortable for you.  For me, I am a fan of these tools.  Primarily for comfort.  I like the added rubber grip.  Not only does it add comfort but on those cold days, you’re not just grabbing onto a cold piece of steel.

When it comes to hand tools, Milwaukee has been hitting the market hard.  I can’t think of any other power tool manufacturer that has been releasing so many tools, which brings me to the Milwaukee Fiberglass Hammer.

If you are performing tasks such as pounding stakes in the ground, demolition work, or other work where you need a weighted hammer, this might just be your next purchase.

Milwaukee Fiberglass Hammer Information

Milwaukee Fiberglass Hammer – Features

The Milwaukee drilling hammer offers some cool features for a 3 lb hammer.

  • Dual Face – Milled & Smooth
  • Overmold handle
  • Peel Resistant Grip
  • Fiberglass core handle
  • Reinforced overstrike protection

Milwaukee Fiberglass Hammer – Impressions

In regards to performance, let’s face it, any weighted hammer can get the job done.  What sets one apart from another is the performance in the handle.  This handle doesn’t have a ton of vibration and the grip is comfortable, even with gloves.  I like the flare at the bottom of the hammer which helps prevent it from slipping out of my hand.

Milwaukee Fiberglass Hammer – Wrap Up

If you are looking for a fiberglass hammer for pounding stakes in the ground, performing demolition work, or anything else you need a solid hammer for, this is a great hammer for your tool arsenal.

While we rely on hand tools for our daily jobs, they don’t get the love that power tools receive.  They aren’t as sexy, fun or powerful. But there is something to be said for a good hand tool.  A hand tool that feels good, isn’t too heavy but heavy enough to feel like a quality tool means a lot.  For me, I am into certain hand tools, like a hammer.  Maybe it the fun of the power of hitting a nail or maybe it’s the fact I am using the same tool cavemen used back in the day, but with a big update.  Today we are looking at one of those primitive tools, so let’s take a look at the Stiletto Hammer Review.

Stiletto Hammer Review Overview

Stiletto dates back to 1901 and even has traces that date back to the California Gold Rush which means they have the history, the knowledge, and the expertise when producing striking tools.  They started in 1901 and there claim to fame is their lightweight Titanium hammers.

Titanium is lighter than steel. You may be asking if it’s lighter, how can it drive nails the same or better than a heavier steel hammer. The reason it can drive nailers the same or better than steel hammers has to do with the recoil.  With a steel hammer, a user gets more recoil and less energy is transferred to the driving of the nail. The lighter weight Titanium has less recoil and transfers more energy to driving the nail.

If you have never swung a Stiletto hammer, you will be in for a real treat when you finally swing one, especially if you swing it all day long.

Stiletto Hammer Review Features

Stiletto Hammer Review

The Stiletto hammer is the most recent addition to their line up.  The TiBone (TB3SC) is built with a Titanium construction which as we discussed above has numerous advantages. The hammer weighs 45% less than steel hammers and has 10X better vibration damping.

The hammer is a 15 oz hammer with an 18″ curved handle. Even though its a 15 oz hammer, it has a comparable force of a 28 oz steel hammer.

Stiletto Hammer Review

The TiBone TB3SC is a smooth face hammer.  They also offer a milled or waffle face hammer. The hammer is designed with an anti-rotational face so no more worrying about the face shifting or coming loose. The hammer also features a magnetic nail set.

Stiletto Hammer Review

The handle has a nice curve for added comfort.  The back of the handle has a rubber handle with an area for your thumb to rest when swinging the hammer.

Stiletto Hammer Review

The center frame is thin and will not get in the way when setting nails in harder to reach areas.

Stiletto Hammer Review

There is a nail puller on the side for the hard to reach areas where the claws will not reach.

Stiletto Hammer Review

The claws are long and straight for more prying power.

Stiletto Hammer Review Performance

Stiletto Hammer Review

I have the 14 oz Stiletto hammer that I have had for a long time and absolutely love the hammer.  I am a fan of wood handles.  However, this Titanium handle hammer might have changed my mind.  The good news is the 14 oz is a waffle head and this is smooth so I can use both and don’t have to get rid of one.

I have been using this on the addition job to set anils, remove nails, hit wood to move it and all the other applications you use for your hammer.  I wish i could sit here and explain why I love this hammer but once you swing a Stiletto, you will understand.

When it comes to performance, I haven’t seen another hammer in its class.

Stiletto Hammer Review Value

The Stiletto hammer retails for $234 at The Home Depot.  I know some will grind their teeth at this price.  If you have owned a Stiletto hammer, you know it’s worth the price.  They are easier on your hands, you arms and your tool belt, plus they last a long time.

If you are a homeowner, sure I would save your money.  However, if you are using a hammer every day to frame, install sheathing, wrap or the other jobs that require you to use a hammer all day, you will understand that a great quality hammer is worth the money.

Stiletto Hammer Review Final Thoughts

While I am still a fan of the Hickory handle Stiletto hammers, this hammer is awesome.  I love the feel of the grip, something I don’t get with the wood handles.  I love the weight and just the hammer’s feedback when striking a nail or another object.  While Stiletto hammers are pricey, just ask anyone who owns one and they will tell you they are worth every penny.  Better striking, better feel and less pain at the end of the day.

Milwaukee is starting to make a name in the hand tool world.  It’s weird to think back just 5 years ago.  Not even sure if they had hand tools back then. Today, they have a large SKU and growing every day, well at least it seems like that.  The Milwaukee Pipe Wrench is what we will take a look at today.  We are looking at two different wrenches.

Milwaukee Pipe Wrench – Information

Milwaukee Pipe Wrench – Features

The Milwaukee pipe wrenches are designed for the professional plumbers.  Here is what they have to offer:

  • Overbite Jaws
  • Dual coil springs for durability
  • Limited Lifetime Warranty
  • Tether handle loop

Milwaukee Pipe Wrench – First Impressions

Milwaukee Pipe Wrench

By any means, I am not a plumber.  However even before my house remodel, I have been doing a ton of plumbing work over the years.  With the house remodel, it has only added to my experience.  For me, I like these wrenches.

I like how easy to the wheel turns to open and close the jaws.  I like how well it grips the pipe but I really love the Aluminum wrench as it’s lightweight but still feels strong enough for daily abuse.

Milwaukee Pipe Wrench – Final Thoughts

I know you have a lot to pick from for pipe wrenches.  You can get anything from a no name to a high-quality brand name wrench.  Each has its unique features and benefits.  The Milwaukee wrenches are a good alternative.  They are solid and perform.  Are they the best wrenches on the market?  Let’s hear your feedback and see what everyone else thinks.  Leave a comment below or on our social channels.

This article is not for the mechanic.  Sure as a mechanic you can buy these sockets and I think they will suit you fine.  However, I am not a mechanic and can’t speak on your behalf.  This is coming from a homeowner who doesn’t wrench every weekend but needs sockets for a wide variety of applications throughout the year.  For me, I hate looking into sockets as it’s a huge investment.  For a homeowner, it’s a necessary evil as I don’t want to dump a ton of money into a socket set because a majority of the time it will be sitting around.  So when I found out about this set, well let’s just say it’s a no brainer.

Husky 200 Piece Socket Set – Information

Husky 200 Piece Socket Set – Features

Plain and Simple, the Husky 200 piece set is a steal for the quality and amount of sizes.

  • 200 total sockets
  • Includes 1/4″, 3/8″ and 1/2″ drive sockets
  • Lifetime warranty with no question and no receipt required
  • Full polished chrome finish easily clean of oil and dirt
  • Cold-formed chromium-vanadium steel sockets for durability and strength
  • Sockets feature chambered lead-ins to provide fast and easy placement on tools and fasteners
  • Off corner design to prevent the rounding of fasteners
  • Large, hard-stamped size markings
  • Meets or exceeds ANSI standards
  • Both 6 and 12 point sockets

Husky 200 Piece Socket Set – First Impressions

So here is the deal, I am talking about this from a homeowner standpoint.  Sure it has good metal and other professional features that make this a great buy.  For me, it’s about being able to invest in the three common sizes, 1/4″, 3/8″ and 1/2″ and not paying through the nose.  I don’t want to dump hundreds of dollars into a system that I don’t use every day.

I want a quality socket that will last me, won’t cost a lot and won’t round out bolts.  Yes, that is why I am a fan of this Husky line.  Tell me where else can you get all these sockets, with this quality for less?

A couple of features that I like about these is how easy it is to read the sizes on each socket.  Plus I like that they are easy to clean up so if I get grease or dirt on them, I can easily wipe them clean before storing them.

Husky 200 Piece Socket Set – Wrap Up

For $100 to buy the most common size of 1/4″, 3/8″ and 1/2″ set, it’s a must.  There are so many times you need sockets for jobs around the house and these are perfect.  They won’t break the bank and they won’t break your work.  Sure, it doesn’t come with a case or a way to organize them but you can buy organizers for your drawers.  Bottom line, this is worth every penny.

If you have visited any Home Depot tool aisle, then you are familiar with the Husky brand.  Husky is a brand only found and sold at The Home Depot, especially for hand tools.  The way I see Husky as a company, (not sure if they will agree with me), but I see them as a homeowner/professional brand.  They have features and the quality of some upper professional brands, but with a much lower price tag. I am not saying that all professionals jump at Husky, but if you need a quality tool, it’s suitable for the professional.  Which brings me to the Husky Stubby Ratchet.

Husky Stubby Ratchet – Information

  • Name – Husky 3/8 in. Drive 100-Position Stubby Ratchet
  • Model – H10038SRAT
  • Price – $19.97
  • Where to BuyThe Home Depot
  • Husky ReviewHusky Reviews

Husky Stubby Ratchet – Features

When you need to get into tight spots, a low profile and stubby ratchet can make all the difference.  The Husky has some cool features for the user:

  • 100-position ratchet
  • 5.5″ overall length
  • 3.6° arc swing
  • Quick release drive
  • Meets or exceeds ANSI standards
  • Lifetime Warranty

Husky Stubby Ratchet – First Impressions

When you first pick it up, you can feel the weight of the ratchet, which makes me think quality.  The ratchet is 7.8 oz and solid metal.  When using with a socket, the ratcheting feels like a much more expensive tool, very smooth and not too much play.

I love how the push button release is recessed into the tool.  Even the lock release has a high quality feel when you push down.

Now I know there isn’t a ton to talk about on a ratchet and I am not here to sell you one way or the other, these are just my thoughts of this ratchet as I have used a ton over the years.

For the price, how good the tool feels and the smoothness of the ratchet, it’s really a no brainer to pick up and put in your tool arsenal.

Husky Stubby Ratchet – Wrap it Up

Overall I am a fan of the Husky hand tool line up.  The stubby ratchet is a nice addition to their large line of ratchets, sockets and more.  If you are looking for a quality ratchet that will allow you to get into tight spots, this is one worth looking at.

Their products have been a much higher quality while their prices have remand low.  So for me, Husky is a great brand that has changed their game and becomes a player in the homeowner’s world.  So how do these screwdrivers compare to their reputation and the competition, let’s take a look at the Husky screwdriver review and see for ourselves?

Overview

While Husky has expanded their horizons with tool storage, lights and more, they still remain a big player in the hand tool world.  Take a walk down the aisle at The Home Depot and you will see sockets, screwdrivers, hammers and a wide variety of other hand tools.

Here is what you get with Husky.  You get a quality product for a low price that has a lifetime warranty.  For the homeowner and even the professional, it’s a great brand to take a look at and see if it’s a fit for your needs.  For me, as a homeowner, it’s worth it because if I am not using tools every day, why do I want to dump a ton of money into something for it sitting on the shelf for most of the time.  However, when I need to use it, I want it to perform and make my task easier.  So that is one of the reasons that I have become to like the Husky brand.

Features

Husky Screwdriver Review

The 15 piece screwdriver set comes with 8 slotted screwdrivers and 7 Phillips screwdrivers.  The best part, the screwdrivers come with a lifetime warranty with no questions and no receipt required.

Husky Screwdriver Review

The handle doesn’t have the traditional round head.  Husky designed these with a pentagonal shape for better grip.  Along with the shape, the chemical resistant material on the handle is a type of softer rubber and also feels like this helps with grip.

Husky Screwdriver Review

The shafts are heat treated alloy steel which means they are designed for higher torque applications and will last under tough tasks.

The tips are precision formed for accurate fits which helps eliminate cam outs.  The Nickel and chrome plated blades also offer corrosion resistance.

On the top or back of the screwdrivers, there are marking to help identify the type and size of the screwdriver.  While they don’t have a strike plate on the back, they do feel solid.

Performance

Husky Screwdriver Review

Looking at these screwdrivers from a homeowners point of view, these are great screwdrivers.  They are comfortable will easily take the abuse of anything you throw its way and you don’t have to worry the Phillips head being too small and stripping out screws.

The two baby screwdrivers lack the quality of the big screwdrivers but will work for eyeglasses and other small electronic screws just fine.

Value

You can pick this 15 piece screwdriver set up at The Home Depot for about $30.  For me, this is a great deal.  Not only do you get a quality set of screwdrivers that are comfortable but you get a lifetime warranty.  So as long as you don’t lose them or loan them out, this will be the last set of screwdrivers you every buy.  So $30 is a great deal for all that.

Husky Screwdriver Review Final Thought

Bottom line, for $30 this is a great buy for the homeowner.  With a lifetime warranty, comfortable grips, and 15 screwdrivers, how can you go wrong?

Husky is known for their hand tools and a house brand for The Home Depot.  Walk into any Home Depot and you will see anything from sockets and ratches to lighting and storage.  One hand tool that is familiar to any plumber is a pipe cutter. A pipe cutter is a great tool to cut pipe when compared to a hacksaw or reciprocating saw.  A pipe cutter is usually fast but more importantly, it produces a clean finished cut.  So let’s get introduced to the Husky Tube Cutter.

Husky Tube Cutter Information

Husky Tube Cutter – Features

The Husky is designed to work with materials such as copper, brass, aluminum and thin wall conduit. The cutter will cut pipe from 5/8″ to 2-1/8″.

  • Quick Adjustment button
  • Fold Away Reamer
  • Extra Blade Storage in Knob
  • Lifetime Warranty

Husky Tube Cutter – First Impressions

Husky Tube Cutter

While this isn’t a review, we did have some time to play around with the Husky cutter.  The first thing you notice is the all-metal construction which means it’s tough and will last.  For me, I like the quick adjustment for different size pipes.  However, if you use the knob and take it from the smallest to largest fitting, it is very smooth.  While this tool can cut different pipes, the copper is where this would be used most.  We cut some thin wall EMT and it not only leaves a very clean finished cut, but it cuts through the pipe very easily.

Husky Tube Cutter – Final Thoughts

The Husky is a great tube cutter for both the professional and the homeowner.  Priced at only $24, it’s hard to beat.  With a lifetime warranty, it should be the last cutter you buy, well except for when you loan it out and they don’t return it.

The Ratchet has 72 teeth for excellent control and is made of chrome plated CR-V.

Sunex Hand Tools Review Performance

One of the highlights of Sunex Tools is that their hand tools offer the same lifetime warranty that their impact sockets have. Hand Tools are integral to a tool collection, no matter how far developed tools become, hand tools will always have their place. Let’s run through each toolset and see how they really performed.

The Screwdriver Set is one of those tools that you don’t realize how handy they will be until you have them. This set is pretty exhaustive too, covering every common tool and then some. With so many options, it is likely the only screwdriver set you would ever need. These screwdrivers feel excellent too. The handles are comfortable and the grip provides a fairly good amount of leverage when you are driving a screw. Each tip was formed perfectly for their matching fastener, allowing a solid connection to give you the best results. I also loved the labels on the outside of the screwdriver as it gives you a quick view when needed. This is especially helpful when paired with storage options like the Sunex Pinup Tool Chest because you can easily see the marking when it is stored on the side rack.

An Adjustable Wrench is one of my favorite tools in a shop. This may sound funny, but there is just something about a tool being able to quickly adjust between sizes that really makes life just a bit easier. Anytime I assemble things, there seems to always be multiple sizes of fasteners. Adjustable Wrenches, in general, allow you to make a shift between sizes without reaching for a second tool. The Sunex Adjustable Wrenches were my favorite ones so far. The set is excellent as it has several sizes to give you incredible versatility in any space or use. The handles felt great in your hand, comfortable but secure. I loved how well the adjustments functioned as when you settled on a measurement, there was no slack as I often see in adjustable tools. Often adjustable wrenches aren’t labeled, but these laser measurements were incredible to have on both sides and remained incredibly visible.

The Mini-Ratchet Set is a tool pretty much everyone needs. I often find myself grabbing for these small kits when doing things like adjusting light switches, putting together modular furniture or kids toys, even adjusting the water heater. Anything that I need more than one bit, but don’t want to reach for multiple screwdrivers. This set is something truly useful for any user. You can’t possibly run out of uses for this little set, it’s small so it can go anywhere, but it’s incredibly useful. I am glad they included the case, as it is really rugged and a huge improvement over other ones I have tried and the extension makes it even more useful.

Sunex Hand Tools Review Value

Combination Screwdriver Set- Item 1120SS $72.99 on Amazon

Adjustable Wrench Set- Item #9618 $40.81 on Amazon

Multi-Purpose Plier Set- Item # 3607V $87.00 on Amazon

Mini Ratchet and Bit Set- Item 9726 $35.00 on Amazon

Sunex Hand Tools are surprisingly well priced. Despite their professional grade quality, they are priced very well. I would also recommend them to homeowners as the lifetime warranty is something professionals and homeowners will appreciate. Purchasing one set of tools versus purchasing several sets over the course of time is always a huge plus in my book.

Sunex Hand Tools Review Final Thoughts

Sunex makes excellent tools. While they are geared towards the Automotive Industry, their hand tools offer benefits to every user. I loved how well each of their tools performed, comfortable grips and small details like the laser etching on the adjustable wrenches as well as labels on the screwdrivers are the small things that take these tools to the next level. I can’t say enough positive things about the Sunex lineup overall, each tool has exceeded my expectations and provides incredible value.

Southwire Tools is a well-loved manufacturer in the electrician realm. Best known for their hand tools and innovative fish tape, Southwire continues to keep improving their tools and technology. We have taken a look at several other tools from Southwire over the last year, and today we check out their newest Pliers and Wire Strippers. Let’s see how Southwire has made these classic tools even better in the Southwire Pliers and Strippers Review.

Southwire Pliers and Strippers Review Overview

Tools for electricians are vast. When you think of the advancements in technology in the field, you likely consider the massive improvements in multimeters and testing equipment. Wire and cables have improved significantly too, allowing more connectivity than ever before. With Southwire as one of the leaders in developing and manufacturing these types of products, they are constantly looking for ways to improve their lineup. Their hand tools are no exception.

Pliers and Wire Strippers are tools virtually everyone has used at some point. While it may be hard to imagine that you could improve tools that have been around for so long, Southwire continues to make small changes tradesmen love. Without a doubt, Southwire is a name electricians trust to bring them some of the best tools available.

Southwire Pliers and Strippers Review Features

Southwire Pliers and Strippers Review

There are four new models in the Southwire Pliers and Strippers Range. All pliers feature classic Southwire construction like drop forged steel and have incredible grips that are both comfortable and non-slip.

The 9-inch Hi-Leverage Side Cutting Pliers have several unique features that serve multiple purposes.

The high leverage pliers can cut through a variety of materials, screws, nails and most wires.

The fish tape pulling channel allows these pliers to pull both 1/8 inch and ¼ inch fish tape without damage.

The crimping die allows extra functionality when using non-insulated connectors.

The file teeth on the jaws allow easy removal of burrs in conduit.

The Forged ROMEX Stripper, model SNM1214HD are designed for users using a lot of Romex. The Forged Wire Stripper, Item S816SOLHD are designed to handle the toughest wire stripping applications.

These ROMEX strippers are designed for use with both 12/2 and 14/2 Romex covering a wide range of applications.

The Forged Wire Strippers can strip 8-16 AWG SOL and 10-18 AWG STR with ease.

Both strippers have a traditional linemen style head with wide knurls on the jaw, that makes twisting multiple conductors at one time a simple task.

The Scalloped blades on both strippers provide easy and efficient cutting.

The strippers both feature bolt shearer’s for 6-32 and 8-32 bolts.

Tether ready handles give you options for storage.

The 7-in-1 Multi-Tool Pliers, model S7N1HD offer a variety of uses- stripping, shearing, gripping, crimping, reaming, spanning and shearing bolts.

Their stripping capabilities range from 10-14 AWG SOL and 12-16 STR.

Bolt shears can handle 6-32 and 8-32 bolts with ease.

Spring loaded handles with a lock also have tether ready handles.

Southwire Pliers and Strippers Review Performance

While I am not a full-time electrician, I often encounter the need to replace wiring, add in new outlets and the like. I have had several opportunities to use these pliers and strippers from Southwire and they performed exceptionally well. The blades were sharp and precise. Stripping wires were as easy as can be with the strippers. I often notice strippers can not only remove the coating on wires but also tend to damage the wire underneath. That was definitely not the case with these strippers. Their cuts were clean and precise.

I loved the lineman heads as well, providing incredible grip to twist wires with little difficulty. The ergonomics and comfort were impressive as well. I appreciated the handles having a comfort coating without being bulky and obtrusive. The markings are very clear on these tools as well, something I often feel lacks on tools like this. They are easy to use, comfortable, and perform their purposes flawlessly.

Southwire Pliers and Strippers Review Value

9-inch Hi-Leverage Side Cutting Pliers Model#-SCP9TPC $39.05 on Amazon

The Forged ROMEX Stripper- Model#-SNM1214HD $33.98 on Amazon

The Forged Wire Stripper- Model#-S816SOLHD $29.98 on Amazon

The 7-in-1 Multi-Tool Pliers- Model#-S7N1HD $32.98 on Amazon

Southwire is always priced in a fairly reasonable range. You’ll find their price points are very competitive and overall Southwire offers exceptional quality. Whether you are a full-time electrician or an occasional user, Southwire has options for everyone that will suit your needs and budget.

Southwire Pliers and Strippers Review Final Thoughts

Southwire makes excellent tools for Electricians. Their quality, features, and value always stand out as consistent within the brand. While pliers and strippers come in all forms, you would be hard-pressed to criticize these new additions from Southwire. They perform well, are comfortable to use, and have small extra features that make a big difference to the user.

Hand Tools have their place in any shop. Mechanics need them, yes, but virtually everyone has a need for hand tools at some point. What’s hard is selecting a brand to go with that will suit your needs and budget as well as have all the features you need, and some you may not have realized you needed too. What’s better is how easy they are to find now, with The Home Depot carrying the line. The Home Depot is a store both professionals and homeowners love for their easy access and an extensive lineup of tools for every user. Let’s check out the Milwaukee Hand Tools At The Home Depot and see what makes these tools stand out.

Milwaukee Hand Tools At The Home Depot- Overview

Milwaukee Hand Tools At The Home Depot

When you think of Milwaukee Tools, likely you consider their incredible power tools first. The first, likely being the very tool that truly created the Milwaukee legacy, the Sawzall. Their take on the Reciprocating Saw is iconic in the tool world, being a tool used as reliably today as it was when they invented it in 1951. Drills, Drivers, Saws and the like, are signature tools Milwaukee is known for as well, making them an incredibly versatile tool line.

This doesn’t mean Milwaukee has been idle though, with expansions in the OPE world and plumbing innovations garnering a lot of attention recently. What is interesting about Milwaukee is how they go about improving their tools. They start right at the user, asking the question, how could we make this tool better? How can we take a tool that has been around for years, or even decades and take it to the next level?

Today we are going to explore the expansion of the Milwaukee Hand Tool Lineup into Home Depot Stores. It is hard to believe that Milwaukee only launched their hand tool line in 2010, and today there are over 700 tools in the collection. If there is one thing that is for sure, as long as there are improvements to be made in tools, Milwaukee intends to do it.

Milwaukee Hand Tools At The Home Depot

Virtually everyone has used picks and hooks for a variety of solutions where access and precision are important. Setting gaskets, O-rings, fine removal of debris and you have a huge asset to a shop. I rebuilt an engine last year and one of the most tedious things I had to do was remove hardened debris from inside the valves. It was messy work, but this would have made a huge improvement in this as the leverage provided from the knurling on the picks allow incredible control. While these serve the automotive industry well, there is so much more these tools can do. Electricians can precisely separate wires, or small precision work in woodworking also will see the benefits of these unique tools. This set is just one of those tools that once you’ve had them in your tool chest, you will wonder why you didn’t purchase them sooner.

Milwaukee Hand Tools At The Home Depot

The easy access storage tray provides a unique storage solution for easy access and storage.

Milwaukee Hand Tools At The Home Depot

If you’ve used a hammer, you know how important the back end is when prying material apart. The thing is, sometimes a dedicated solution is needed to get the best results. Pry Bars provide a refined solution to this. They have dozens of uses in the automotive industry, but that’s hardly where it ends. Being able to strike the back of these pry bars with a hammer allows some unique uses in demolition and overall general construction. Without a doubt, these pry bars already have a few uses on my list from removing a small granite backsplash to replace it, and the rehab of a deck where prying the wood apart will be a breeze using these. Much like the Hook and Pick Set, this Pry Bar Set will be an indispensable addition to a lot of tool chests.

The Pry Bar Set, Model # 48-22-9214 is available at The Home Depot for $69.97.

Milwaukee Hand Tools At The Home Depot – Mechanics Set

Milwaukee Hand Tools At The Home Depot

A full 56-piece set features standard socket sizes in both metric, 6mm-19mm, and SAE in a ¼ inch to one inch in standard increments. Deep Well Sockets come in metric sizes from 6mm to 19 mm and SAE from ¼-inch to 7/8- inch.

Milwaukee Hand Tools At The Home Depot

Each Socket is stamped for easy visibility and prevents wearing of the sizes for increased user life.

Milwaukee Hand Tools At The Home Depot

Each 3/8-inch drive Sockets has sides that come to a flat to prevent rolling of the sockets while working and come “wrench-ready” for easy attachment and detachment.

Milwaukee Hand Tools At The Home Depot

The ratchet has a 4-degree arc swing with 90 teeth for ultimate torque and improves working in tight spaces. As well the flush directional lever is responsive and sits flush on the slim profile ratchet.

Milwaukee Hand Tools At The Home Depot

A 3-inch extension, 6-inch extension, and a universal swivel attachment allowing, even more, reach and usability in tight working conditions.

The included case allows for easy portability of the set. As well though, you have a removable tray that provides easy storage in standard mechanics steel tool chests for convenience and easy access. As well the tray is specially contoured for the flat sides of the sockets and is labeled for easy organization.

Milwaukee Hand Tools At The Home Depot

I always save the best for last, and in this case, this mechanics set will blow your mind. A mechanics set is likely one of the first things you will purchase for your garage, whether you are heavy into automotive work or not, they are a staple for everyone. Milwaukee added a few extra features to really take these to the next level. Ever had a socket roll away? Or an issue with the shape creating an issue getting into hard spaces? Well, you aren’t alone, and Milwaukee knows that. This set is an exceptional innovation for Milwaukee, bringing about the question how exactly were flat sided sockets not invented sooner?

Not only were the flat sides a well-loved addition to this mechanics set, but a few other features stood out as well. The sockets are easy to read, and the ratchet was incredibly responsive. I appreciate the thinner profile ideal for getting into tight spots too, something important for all users. Something else that stood out about this set was the storage tray. Thick and durable contoured plastic allows easy organization and quick removal from the included case, but it was one of the best storage systems I have seen for a mechanics set.

This Mechanic Set, Model #48-22-9008 set is available at The Home Depot for $179.97.

Milwaukee Hand Tools At The Home Depot- Final Thoughts

Milwaukee Hand Tools At The Home Depot

It’s fairly plain to see that Milwaukee was eager to make changes that users would value in their day to day uses. It is hard to take tool classics and make changes large enough that users will feel drawn to the new version over ones they already own. Without a doubt, there are features in these sets that will make a huge difference in how efficiently your job gets done. Less hassle, better performance, easy organization, hard to find anything not worth loving in the Milwaukee Hand Tool Collection. With the availability at The Home Depot, you really can’t go wrong in terms of access and value.

Want a chance to win some of these tools for yourself? Stay tuned for an announcement Monday where we will share a little Milwaukee Love and have a chance to win one of these sets!

Hammers are probably one of the oldest hand tools known to man.  They have been made out of stone, wood, bronze and more. The hammer symbol has been a sign of war and peace over the years we have roamed this planet.  Considering how long hammers have been around, there hasn’t been much change from the first hammer found 10,000 years ago to the hammers we use today. Well, they have added a claw or nail puller.  But when you think about a hammer, it’s a simple hand tool that pounds and removes fasteners.  Sure it’s what we use to smash our thumb or dent expensive wood but when it comes down to it, it’s one of those tools that everyone carries in their tool belt.  So does the Milwaukee hammer stack up with the competition?  Let’s take a look at the Milwaukee hammer review and see.

Milwaukee Hammer Review Overview

While old hammers were made of a variety of materials, your typical framing hammers are usually made of two types of materials for the handles, wood and metal.  Both wood and metal handles have their pros and cons.  They offer different strengths, different striking power and a different feel for the user.  When it comes down to it, it’s a personal preference.  For me, I have always been a wood handle type of guy.  Not sure if that’s because of old-school hammers or just something I have been used to over the years.

While Milwaukee does offer hammers with a metal handle, these new hammers are designed with a wood handle for those of us who have been asking and seeking a quality hammer with a solid striking head and a lightweight wood handle.

Milwaukee designed two types of hammers in this line, the smooth face hammer (48-22-9519) and the Milled face or waffle head hammer (48-22-9419). Both hammers are 19 oz.

The hammers are made from an American Hickory wood which helps reduce vibration and acts as a shock absorber.

The hammer uses an Anti-ring claw design. This means it should reduce noise and ringing when striking nails or other hardened objects.

On the top front of the hammer, Milwaukee designed it with a magnetic nail set so it holds the nail in place when you first strike the hammer to an object.  While not the first to market with this feature, it does come in handy when you’re on a ladder and only have one hand available.

The hammer is designed with a straight claw.

Milwaukee Hammer Review Performance

For me, I love these hammers.  During my house construction, I used the milled faced when we were framing, but the smooth face is identical, well except for the face.

I love the weight of these hammers.  While they aren’t as nice as Stiletto hammers, they are less expensive.  As I noted earlier, I love wood handle hammers.  With these hammers, you feel the strike but don’t get a ton of feedback or vibration when you strike the hammer wrong.

One of my favorite features of this hammer is the design or shape of the handle.  While there are other manufacturers who use the same type of design, I really like the ax style handle design over a straight handle design.

Milwaukee Hammer Review Value

The smooth face hammer and the waffle head hammer both retail for about $25 at The Home Depot.  When you compare these to other hammers, I would say it’s a fair price.  Yes, you can buy cheaper and a lot more expensive hammers but you will notice the difference in each price range.  For this price range and the quality of the hammer, it’s what you would expect.

Milwaukee Hammer Review Final Thoughts

If you are a fan of wood handle hammers, this will be a nice fit in your arsenal.  For me, I am a fan of wood handles and a wood handle hammer would be my first pick.  I like the length of these hammers along with the weight.  So the ratio of weight and leverage of these Milwaukee hammers is very appealing.  With the Hickory handles you do get better feedback when striking a nail. Overall, I am a fan of these hammers and they would be at the top of my pick for this price range.

Traditionally, using wire strippers has been a two-handed operation. This has made the job a chore. Especially while on a ladder or in a tight space. Automatic wire strippers have been on the market in one form or fashion for a while now. They haven’t all been created equal though, and for me, this is the first of its kind that has been a pleasure to use. Let’s take a look at this addition from Southwire in the Southwire Automatic Wire Stripper Review.

Southwire Automatic Wire Stripper Review Overview

Southwire has come to the rescue of those who strip wire all day every day. These automatic strippers are designed for professional electricians to maximize efficiency and speed. Even with a high-quality set of traditional strippers, you need two hands for the operation. Being able to keep one hand free to do other things, like hold another tool is valuable. Even being able to steady yourself on a ladder or in a precarious position can be commonplace.

The jaws will open up to 2-1/2″ wide but only remove around 1″ of insulation. You can remove more, but you have to manually pull the insulation the rest of the way off.

I used these exclusively while wiring a room for a friend recently. I was amazed at how well they worked! They were fast and accurate. Did I mention fast? I can’t stress enough how much faster they are than a traditional pair of strippers. I know that with enough practice (like a pro) that you may be able to move just as fast, but I don’t strip wires all day every day. To be able to pick these up and get to work so fast and easy is just really nice.

They worked just as well on a solid wire as they did on stranded wire. The only issues I see is if you aren’t sure of the size wire you’re working with. Also, with them being automatic, you can’t delicately strip a wire like you can with a traditional pair.

Unlike other styles of automatic strippers, you can choose exactly how long or short of an end you want to expose.

Southwire Automatic Wire Stripper Review Value

Lowes carries these Southwire Automatic Wire Strippers for $25.98 on Amazon. Being as how well they worked, and how well they’re built, I would consider paying upwards of $40 for them. Specialty tools like this often carry high price tags, but at $25.98, these are a smoking deal in my opinion.

At this price, I would immediately replace them should they get lost, broken, stolen, or worn out. The amount of time that they save is worth way more than what you pay for them. Definitely a good investment.

Southwire Automatic Wire Stripper Review Final Thought

Southwire Automatic Wire Stripper Review

While these may not completely replace all of the wire strippers in your toolbox or bag, they certainly should be some of the first ones you reach for. Southwire designs their tools for the professional in mind, and these Wire Strippers are a testament to that. The speed, quality, ease of use, and price are all winners. I was blown away at how well they worked and I think you will be too.
