Any day that we get to review a Hilti tool is a good day! If you don’t know, Hilti is a premiere power tool brand for trade professionals. The company is always looking to improve their tools in new and innovative ways. January 2022 Hilti launched Hilti Nuron, a new 22V battery platform with additional pioneering features. In fact, today’s tool, the Hilti Nuron SensTech Grinder, unveils new anti-kickback technology known as “SensTech” and 3D Activated Torque Control (ATC) to prevent injury. Angle grinders account for at least 5,000 injuries each year. Hopefully, Hilti can help lower that number.

First, let’s see how the Hilti Nuron SensTech Grinder performs…

If you want to know more about Hilti Nuron, we wrote an article last year. The main innovations from this new platform are:

Hilti Nuron SensTech Grinder Overview

Hilti Nuron SensTech Grinder

Safety features for angle grinders commonly come in the form of guards, a manual kill switch, vibration reduction, and so on. However, none of these safety features step in for you when you lose control. The pioneering safety features on the Hilti Nuron Cordless Grinder are touch-activated SensTech and the 3D Active Torque Control (ATC).

The Hilti SensTech works by using capacitive sensors (touchscreen technology) to sense the grip of the user. The capacitive sensors detect if your grip has moved or loosened. If SensTech detects a user is losing control it activates an auto-shutoff. And the 3D ATC senses if the grinder suddenly jerks in one direction or spins-out. Either of these activates Hilti’s “dead-man’s function” to turn the grinder off before injury or damage can occur.

Hilti Nuron SensTech Grinder Features

Hilti Nuron SensTech Grinder

The Hilti Nuron SensTech Grinder (AG 6D-22-6)* utilizes a 6-in. disk, and has a 1.81-in max cutting depth. Built with a brushless motor and part of the Hilti Nuron platform, a combination that provides more life per charge.

The Hilti Nuron SensTech Grinder includes:

  • Outer flange
  • 5/8 in. D45 flange inside
  • Threaded stud
  • Washer holder
  • One Comfort side handle
  • Protective grinding cover 150 assy
  • 150 clip-on front cover

* There is also Model AG 6D-22-5 which utilizes a 5-in. cutting disk, offers a 1.34-in. max cutting depth, and is sold at a slightly lower price.

Hilti Nuron SensTech Grinder

As we mentioned, the Hilti Nuron SensTech Grinder (AG 6D-22-6) is part of the Hilti Nuron platform. This platform runs off a redesigned 22V advanced lithium-ion batteries, providing one battery type for all Hilti’s 70+ Nuron tools.

This redesign offers more than doubled power transfer and improved output. Hilti claims this battery platform has double the power of 18V and 20V battery platforms, and outperforms corded and gas tools.

Nuron batteries are built with proprietary Smart Technology that records and reports information such as:

  • Battery life and health
  • Tool activity and idle levels
  • Tool location
  • Assigned tool user/manager

Location-tracking is particularly useful for “jumpy” tools like angle grinders, that switch hands a lot while moving from one jobsite to the next. All of this information is uploaded to the Cloud where managers and users can access it any time.

Hilti Nuron SensTech Grinder

A major contributor to the performance of this grinder comes from the ergonomic design that allows for optimal control. The slim and contoured body along with the Comfort side handle, allow for a solid grip and make it easy to operate.

Hilti Nuron SensTech Grinder

The On/Off switch is well-placed on the top side of the grinder, right in the line of sight while in use. The black and red contrast makes the switch easy to find. To turn it On a user simply needs to push up on the button, which is intuitive and easy based on how you hold this grinder.

Hilti Nuron SensTech Grinder

In testing, it’s clear this grinder’s big performance owes some credit to its slim design. The slim front allows for worker versatility.

Hilti Nuron SensTech Grinder

The grinder comes with a Comfort side handle. There is a spot on each side of its front where the handle can be locked into place. This is an easy customization for right or left-handed users.

The minimal curved grip is a bit slimmer compared to other angle grinders. However, it makes it comfortable, easy to hold, and promotes overall control of the grinder.

Hilti Nuron SensTech Grinder Performance

As we mentioned, Hilti is a premiere professional power tool brand. The Hilti Nuron SensTech Grinder skated through our tests. This grinder has superior performance, but even that isn’t what makes this grinder stand out. The SensTech activated dead-man’s function is a major safety advancement. Also, Hilti added this safety feature but it did not add any bulk or interfere with standard use. In fact, they designed a more powerful, yet slimmer, ergonomic tool that’s even easier to control.

Hilti Nuron SensTech Grinder Value

This grinder is expensive. The Hilti Nuron SensTech Grinder with two B 22-85 Li-ion batteries and a charger is available for a discounted net price of $644.75. There is also a fixed monthly payment option of $20.99/month. The “most similar” competing model I can find is an M18 4-1/2 in./6 in. grinder by Milwaukee. You can buy a Milwaukee grinder kit with a grinder, a battery, and a charger for $379. While these kits aren’t exactly the same, it’s probably the best comparison you can get. The Hilti definitely has a higher price tag, but it offers a lot more.

First, there’s power. Not only is Hilti Nuron a 22V battery platform, but the redesigned batteries are built for better power transfer and input, making them potentially twice as powerful as 18V battery platforms. Second, SensTech is an innovative advancement in safety features. Combine SensTech with the anti-kickback 3D ATC and Hilti has set a new standard for angle grinder safety. Third, Hilti has the best service to make sure contractors don’t have downtime.

Hilti Nuron SensTech Grinder Final Thoughts

The Hilti Nuron SensTech Grinder is a top-of-the-line angle grinder for trade professionals. It offers unmatched performance, and the SensTech, 3D ATC, and easy-to-control design reduce workplace injury. So, not only is the Hilti Nuron SensTech Grinder an investment in your toolkit, it’s an investment in your workday and your employees’ health and safety. These features added to the Smart Tool Technology make Hilti a top brand that we recommend to professionals.

Bosch Power Tools is geared towards skilled tradesmen invested in heavy-duty work that demands high quality and consistently superior performance.  As such, the Bosch brand is directly competing with tool producers like Hilti, Metabo, and Makita.  Let’s take a look at the Bosch X-LOCK Grinder.

Bosch X-LOCK Grinder Overview

Grinders – angle grinders to be specific – are useful in metal polishing, smoothing, and to some extent cutting applications.  When it comes to grinders, Bosch is considered to be a leader in the market.  They are reliable and powerful.  And this new Bosch X-LOCK Grinder offers some pretty cool features.

Bosch X-LOCK Grinder Features

Here we have the GWX18V-8N model (ASIN: B09F16FNR8). A 4.5 – 5 in. angle grinder that weighs in at 4.85 pounds, is 4.3 x 11.8 x 5.1 inches.   The Bosch X-LOCK Grinder’s 8-amp brushless motor delivers 11,000 RPM, and the grinder is covered by a 1-year warranty.

The Bosch X-LOCK Grinder is part of the next-gen Lithium-ion CORE18V 8.0 Ah Performance Battery line of tools. According to Bosch, this battery platform provides the power equivalent of a 10-amp corded grinder.
Bosch XLock Grinder

The slide switch is easy to engage. The switch locks in the “on” mode, allowing ease of use and tool angle manipulation without needing constant attention as required by the competing paddle switch design. Additionally Bosch states on their website: “The grinder provides an X-Brake, which helps provide a rapid stop of the wheel when the switch is turned off. It also includes other advanced electronics, such as drop control, KickBack Control, restart protection, and soft-start technology. The grinder has connected-ready capability, supplying an interface that works with the optional Bosch Connected Tool Module to link to the free Bosch Toolbox app.”

Bosch XLock Grinder

I also like the ergonomic handle.  It is slim compared to other models and manufacturers.  This is important since maneuverability and precise angling is critical in certain grinding jobs.  Even a slightly excessive thickness in a grinder handle can compromise desired placement of the abrasive wheel.  This may translate into less-than-desirable results.

Bosch XLock Grinder

By their nature, most grinding jobs produce dust and grit. Pictured here, Bosch incorporated a screen to protect the motor from debris that might otherwise get sucked in and pose its own type of performance and safety hazard.

My favorite feature is the X-LOCK wheel change.  X-LOCK makes changing wheels up to five times faster and without any extra tools.  The above images show changing steps that can be done swiftly and safely without a spanner wrench or flange nuts.  There are numerous angle grinders out there, and most require tools to replace or change wheels.  This nod towards hassle-free operation and better productivity sets the Bosch X-LOCK Grinder apart.

The Bosch X-LOCK Grinder comes with a side handle that can be fitted on either side of the tool.

Bosch X-LOCK Grinder Value

The Bosch X-LOCK Grinder (tool only, no accessories) can be had for under $200 on Amazon. Considering their quality, and reputation for being one of the best professional tool brands, this is a great value.  Even if you have to also invest in a Bosch battery and charger.

Bosch X-LOCK Grinder Thoughts

From handling this grinder, and with my experience, I can say this angle grinder is powerful and easy to work with.   The slim handle, low weight, ample cordless power, and slide switch allow for accurate, detailed work.  And again, one of my favorite features is the X-LOCK toolless wheel change. For any given job, Bosch can hold its own.

Hilti is known for its high-quality power tools.  They may not have the line of power tools that other power tool manufacturers offer but Hilti offers two things that no other company can offer, customer service and a solution.  Most other companies will sell you a tool and then send you on your way.  Hilti has a different approach.  Not only will they sell you a tool, but they also have a local rep who will work with you which is unique in the industry.  The rep will also have a solution for your fastening and adhesive, plus a solution of other products to provide you with a solution.  While Hilti has a unique approach, today we are here to talk about the Hilti AG 4S-A22 Grinder Review so let’s jump in and talk a look.

Hilti AG 4S-A22 Grinder Review Overview

When it comes to grinders, there are only three grinders I really trust, Bosch, Metabo, and Hilti.  I am not knocking other manufacturers but when it comes to real work and build quality, it’s hard to beat these three companies.  So when Hilti came out with the Hilti AG 4S-A22 Grinder, it’s one of those tools we wanted to show off.  When it comes to grinder, I love Hilti because they don’t just come to market with a grinder because everyone else has one.  They come to the market when they can offer the best of the best.  They come to market when they can create a grinder that won’t bog down under normal use as we have seen with plenty of other grinders.  So let’s take a look at why the Hilti is or is not a grinder to own.

Hilti AG 4S-A22 Grinder Review Features

Hilti AG 4S-A22 Grinder Review

The 4A-A22 is a 4.5″ grinder that features a brushless motor.  The motor delivers up to 8000 rpm’s.  One of the best features of this grinder is the ATC which is Active Torque Control.  So if the disc jams, the tool will shut down and prevent it from spinning.

The grinder is powered by the Hilti 22V battery.

Hilti AG 4S-A22 Grinder Review

The handle has a nice shape and conforms to your hand giving it a comfortable feeling.

Hilti AG 4S-A22 Grinder Review

On top of the grinder, there is a slide switch to turn on and off the grinder.

On the back of the handle, there is a speed dial that will let the user control the speed from 3,500 to 8,000 rpm’s

The handle can be moved from the left to the right but it will not support it on top of the tool.

Hilti AG 4S-A22 Grinder Review

The front of the tool is all-metal housing instead of plastic like we have seen with other grinders in the market place.

Hilti AG 4S-A22 Grinder Review Performance

Hilti AG 4S-A22 Grinder Review

We lent the grinder to the mechanics next to us to get their input.  They used it for a variety of application and they ended up loving it.  I used it to cut some rebar and a couple of bolts for my house project.  Not once did I get the grinder to stall or hiccup under normal use.

We cut through a 3/8″ thick steek leaf without any issue.

Hilti AG 4S-A22 Grinder Review

Even grinding, the grinder performed like a champ.  If we pressed extremely hard, we could get the overload to kick on but under normal use, no one would ever push that hard.

All in all, the grinder was one of the best we have tested.

Hilti AG 4S-A22 Grinder Review Value

Above I mentioned that Hilti is a solution provider.  Here is just another reason I love Hilti.  Most companies put a kit together and sell it to you.  With Hilti, you can get a bare tool or even design your own kit with what batteries you want, the number of batteries and more.  Check out their website.

As a bare tool, this will run you about $180.  If you want a charger and charger and two 8Ah batteries, you will pay about $615 which is worth every penny.  You can also lower the cost by buying 4Ah batteries instead, but for a high demand tool like this, I would go with the 8Ah batteries.

Hilti AG 4S-A22 Grinder Review Final Thoughts

Overall I love this grinder.  The grinder is powerful and runs for longer than I would expect with a high demand power tool.  The fact that I can design my own kit and work with a local rep, makes it that much more appealing to buy.

Every 18 Volt tool has its own specific power requirements. Grinders, for instance, require a large amount of power to perform at the level of their plug-in counterparts. The Ridgid 18 Volt Octane 4-1/2″ grinder is one of the latest battery-operated tools to attempt to reach the level of power and performance of corded tools. So let’s check out the Ridgid 18 Volt Octane 4-1/2″ Grinder Review.

There are actually two parts to achieving the level of performance of that a corded tool can provide.  One is the tool’s design and the other is the battery output. The trick is getting the two parts to work together in harmony. Ridgid has taken a huge step forward to achieving the performance of level of corded tools with their new Octane line of tools and batteries.

Ridgid 18 Volt Octane 4-1/2″ Grinder Review Overview

Ridgid 18 Volt Octane 4-1/2" Grinder Review

Ridgid is a tool company known for producing high-quality battery operated tools for advanced DIY’ers and professionals for quite some time. The price point for these tools is often lower than what you should expect for a tool that performs at the level that they Ridgid tool performs at.

Every few years, Ridgid releases a new generation of tools where the tool and/or battery has been updated. The latest generation of their tools to hit the market is the Octane line. This latest generational upgrade is a complete rebuild of tools and batteries.  The batteries are able to recognize what tool they are trying to power and match the output to that specific tool.  You should see a better performing tool by matching the Octane tools with the Octane batteries. The great part of this is both the tools and batteries are backward compatible.

Ridgid 18 Volt Octane 4-1/2″ Grinder Review Features

Ridgid 18 Volt Octane 4-1/2" Grinder Review

A brushless motor provides higher power and maximum performance compared to older brushed models.

The Ridgid 18 Volt Octane 4-1/2″ Grinder has a slide style power switch that is located on the top of the tool and can be locked into place.

The blade guard is adjustable with the press of a button located on the guard. No tool required.

The blades can be changed out with the included spanner wrench.

The grinder offers three positions where the auxiliary handle can be attached.

A removable and washable filter fits nicely at the base of the handle.  This minimizes the amount of metal grinding dust entering the grinder.

Ridgid 18 Volt Octane 4-1/2" Grinder Review

The slim grip is a nice ergonomic option for comfort and extended use.

Ridgid 18 Volt Octane 4-1/2″ Grinder Review Performance

Ridgid 18 Volt Octane 4-1/2" Grinder Review

The Ridgid 18 Volt Octane 4-1/2″ Grinder is a big step up from its predecessor. When used in combination with the new Octane batteries, this unit really shines. There is no loss of power during grinding or cutting operations. This unit just hums along like nothing is going to stand in its way.

One of the design features I like most is the overall shape of the unit. I’ve used other brands that are much wider where you hold the unit making them a little more difficult to hold. The grip really stands out to me when I use a cutting wheel on it.

The tool-less guard adjustment is awesome. I always say that if a safety feature makes work cumbersome or is difficult to adjust, it will usually get removed from the tool. This, of course, makes a safety feature useless.

The only thing I am not a big fan of with this grinder is the power switch. This may have more to do with what I am used to over any real issue. I tend to prefer a paddle switch that is located on the body of the unit over a switch that I have to operate with my thumb.

Ridgid 18 Volt Octane 4-1/2″ Grinder Review Value

The price of the Ridgid 18 Volt Octane 4-1/2″ Grinder found on The Home Depot site is currently at $129.00. This price is for the bare tool. This is about what I would expect to pay for a grinder of this caliber.

It’s a grinder that works at a very high level and should for many years to come. If you follow the rules of the Ridgid Lifetime Service Agreement, (register the tool within the first 90 days after purchase) Ridgid will fix or replace your grinder that stops working due to any normal ware. If you factor in the Ridgid Lifetime Service Agreement and the quality of the Ridgid 18 Volt Octane 4-1/2″ Grinder, it may be the last grinder you ever need to buy.

Ridgid 18 Volt Octane 4-1/2″ Grinder Review Final Thoughts

For several years I have been impressed with most of the Ridgid battery operated tools. The 18 Volt grinder was one of the tools that I thought had room for improvement. The older models would tare through a battery in no time and underperformed a little bit.

Ridgid has addressed the power and runtime issues the older grinders had with the introduction of the new Octane grinder and Octane batteries. I look forward to where Ridgid goes from here. They continue to push the limits of battery operated technology and are heading in the right direction.

As someone who knows plenty of blacksmiths and welders, I would say that over 75% of them have a DeWalt grinder in their starting lineup. Granted, these are mostly corded grinders, but DeWalt has gotten it right with their angle grinders compared to other tool manufacturers. Yet again, they grind their way towards the front and hit the mark with the DeWalt Cordless Angle Grinder Review.

DeWalt Cordless Angle Grinder Review Overview

In an array of cordless angle grinders, only a few stand out due to the nature of the tool. The angle grinder, at its core, is an intense tool. One for cutting through very hard materials like concrete and steel. To do this, it requires substantial power and high-performance motors. It also requires a rugged design that plans for the longevity of use in rough environments. On top of all of these factors, safety is key. The angle grinder can become a very dangerous tool if misused or defective. Taking all of this into consideration when making a decision on a cordless grinder is important for homeowners and professionals alike.

After using the DeWalt, I definitely like it. Admittedly, other than my weird obsession with drill/drivers, angle grinders are my “favorite tool.” But to be completely candid, for someone like myself who does a large majority of work from a home shop, it’s hard to replace a corded grinder. On the other hand, the pesky cord is a huge annoyance to me and a safety concern. With that being said, from now on, I’ll leave the corded grinder in the cabinet for when I absolutely need it. The cordless tool has yet again won me over, especially since the DeWalt has some great features and tremendous build quality.

DeWalt Cordless Angle Grinder Review Features

DeWalt Cordless Angle Grinder Review

Truth be told, on the grinders’ I had growing up when learning to weld, there were no guards. More recently, my corded grinder is absent of one as well since it had perished after a hard drop. This DeWalt has one that will stay on! The very robust type 27 steel guard is adjustable and locks to whatever position you desire. Being able to direct your sparks and residual chips is important, and this guard does a fine job. Also, this model sports a 4.5in wheel, the general standard that is perfect for almost any application. Additionally this grinder runs on DeWalts 20V battery platform.

DeWalt Cordless Angle Grinder Review

As I mentioned above, angle grinders can be dangerous to operate. In case of an accident you definitely want the cutting wheel to stop as fast as possible, rather than wind down. To accomplish this, there is a brake feature in the tool. Now, don’t confuse this with an actual device braking the rotation of the business end. Instead, via the motor, all current Is cut, and the gears stop within 2 seconds or less. This happens during any binding, pinching, or stalling occurs.

DeWalt Cordless Angle Grinder Review

The brushless motor on the DeWalt turns at a nicely paced 9000 RPM under no load. Sure to be more than enough juice for any project. To learn more about brushed and brushless motors, be sure to check out this recent article that explores their key differences.

DeWalt Cordless Angle Grinder Review

The two-stage trigger is a great best practice that has been incorporated into the tool. Before the paddle can be depressed, another small trigger must be activated. This reduces the risk of accidental activation.

DeWalt Cordless Angle Grinder Review

The general tool construction is very well done. The tool shell is composed of a material that we’ve discussed in the past and can be found here in What Your Tools Are Made Of. The PA66 30% glass fiber reinforced plastic is strong, impact resistant, and sturdy. The tool shell was also well molded, and was very easy to snap back together after looking under the hood.

DeWalt Cordless Angle Grinder Review

In addition, I was happy to see plenty of parts either machined or turned on a lathe throughout the tool, a clear sign of quality.

DeWalt Cordless Angle Grinder Review

The butylene rubber overmold is done quite nicely, with dovetail molding into the tool shell. The material is generally grippy, and this overmold is quite thick as well.

DeWalt Cordless Angle Grinder Review

Grinding is messy, and DeWalt has done a pretty good job of minimizing the ingress of dust into the internals. Importantly, while still allowing ventilation of the motors. This is accomplished by some mesh vents installed near the rear of the tool. The mesh looks to be suitable for the micron size associated with metal and concrete grinding and is secured to the tool shell, rather than being part of the mold. I suspect that this is to allow some cleaning of the mesh. If so, great job on DeWalt for the design!

DeWalt Cordless Angle Grinder Review

As for the rest of the tool, no unnecessary holes are present, and the trigger surprisingly has a boot to prevent debris from traveling into the switch. Overall, DeWalt has done a great job of reducing debris creeping into the tool.

DeWalt Cordless Angle Grinder Review

As with most other quality angle grinders, access to the gearbox is quite easy with the removal of the gearbox shroud.

DeWalt Cordless Angle Grinder Review

Once inside the main housing, the gears look to be of good quality, and liberally lubricated with the water-resistant, lithium-based molybdenum disulfide grease. If in the event your gears ever wear out or become damaged, replacing the drive gear, and accompanying spiral pinion gear is very easy. This is due to this smart design with easy access to the gearbox.

DeWalt Cordless Angle Grinder Review Performance

I really took my time in the testing, teardown, and during actual projects with this grinder and I’m flat out impressed. Angle grinders take a beating and should be made for this, accordingly. The DeWalt just flat out delivers.

DeWalt Cordless Angle Grinder Review

When cutting and grinding carbon steel for knife making blanks, I zipped through a rough cutout in just seconds, then switched discs and began some very effective grinding.

DeWalt Cordless Angle Grinder Review

The same can be said for concrete. I tested on several bricks and drained my battery while seeing how effective the tool was against one of the toughest challenges for grinders. Lastly, for a tool restoration, I’m working on, I was able to quickly and elegantly reface an antique masonry hammer. Overall, through everything, the DeWalt was effective and ergonomic. Obviously, this was best paired with their 20v MAX 5mAh battery!

DeWalt Cordless Angle Grinder Review Value

DeWalt Cordless Angle Grinder Review

Having quality tools that handle tough jobs with metal and concrete is important, and not a place to skimp. And as mentioned above, build quality should be on par with price, since these tools will be taking quite the beating. The DCG413B is an example of extreme build quality and reliability for the money. You can grab the bare tool at The Home Depot for $169.00, a great price for a tool that will certainly last you a very long time.

DeWalt Cordless Angle Grinder Review Final Thoughts

DeWalt Cordless Angle Grinder Review

After a long span of thinking that corded grinders were the only way to go – I’m turned! This DeWalt proved in such a short period of time that quality, price, and reliability can culminate together! In times when corners are cut for cost savings and profit margins by many competitors, DeWalt has proven again to be a front-runner, the DCH413B is proof of that!

When it comes to grinders, I am only a fan of two power tool manufacturers on the market, Metabo, and Bosch. Now I am not saying other manufacturers don’t have great grinders, but Metabo and Bosch are the top players for durability and reliability. Today we are going to go over a new addition to their cordless grinder line up, the Bosch GWS18V-45PSCB14 (Wow that is a long model number). So let’s jump into the Bosch 18V Cordless Grinder Review and see if this stays true to their top-notch grinders.

Bosch 18V Cordless Grinder Review Overview

Grinders come in two types, strong and weak. If you have used a cordless grinder in the past you know what I mean. There are some grinders on the market that will cut through metal but as soon as you start grinding, the auto-protect feature kicks in and stops anytime you put a little pressure on the grinder. For me, those are the ones I want to stay away from and if you are looking into a grinder to perform some serious grinding, make sure you get one designed for that applications.

Bosch 18V Cordless Grinder Review Features

Bosch 18V Cordless Grinder Review Overview

The Bosch grinder comes with the grinder (GWS18V-45PSCB14, an 18V Core Battery, a charger and side handle. The 4-1/2″ grinder uses a brushless motor that features anti-kickback control, drop control (Shuts off the grinder if you drop it on the ground), and restart protection (protects the tool from starting up when inserting a battery. The grinder also features a soft start so you don’t have to deal with the torque in your wrist.

Bosch 18V Cordless Grinder Review Overview

The grinder is powered by the Bosch 18V Core battery. The Core battery offers larger cells than a traditional Lithium-Ion battery which means more work and longer runtimes.

On top of the grinder there is a rubber grip for comfort and to provide better grip during use. The front of the handle is a little wider while it tapers off towards the back.

Bosch 18V Cordless Grinder Review Overview

The grinder uses a paddle switch as opposed to an on/off switch.

Bosch 18V Cordless Grinder Review Overview

The tool is set up for Bluetooth connectivity which provides a variety of options for the user.

Bosch 18V Cordless Grinder Review Overview

One feature that we haven’t seen on a grinder is the feedback interface. The interface will let you know your battery level, speed indicator and if the tool is running hot and needs to shut down.

As with other grinders, this has a two-position side handle.

Bosch 18V Cordless Grinder Review Overview

On the top of the tool, there is a spindle lock for when a user changes discs.

Bosch 18V Cordless Grinder Review Overview

The guard can be positioned without having to use a tool. Just press in the spring-loaded button and move the guard to your desired position.

Bosch 18V Cordless Grinder Review Overview

The air intake area is protected by a removable screen and cleanable screen.

Bosch 18V Cordless Grinder Review Performance

Earlier I talked about strong and weak grinders. This Bosch surely fits into the strong category. We cut through some rebar and did some grinding. Each time the grinder performed and didn’t shut down like we have with other cordless grinders.

While we felt a little more feedback than we wanted, I will take that since it has the ability to perform serious work. The top information panel is helpful to let you know exactly what is happening with the tool and a nice added feature.

Bosch 18V Cordless Grinder Review Value

You can pick this grinder up for about $300 on Amazon which includes two 18V Core batteries. For me, I think this is a fair price considering the tool, the batteries and the amount of work you can do before it shuts down.

Bosch 18V Cordless Grinder Review Final Thoughts

Again I am a fan of Bosch grinders and think this is a welcome addition to their lineup. With the Core batteries, this has great runtime compared to some of its competitors. While there are definitely vibrations in the handle, it’s nothing crazier than other grinders we have seen on the market. I am a fan of this grinder. If someone is looking for a reliable and tough grinder they should definitely consider this one from Bosch.

When it comes to cordless grinders, a consumer has plenty of options to pick from.  All most every major and no name power tool manufacturers have a grinder in their lineup.  Like anything else in this world, we have brands we love and brands we want to avoid.  For me, I have two major brands that I stick to when it comes to grinders, Metabo and Bosch.  I have owned both of them over the years and they are the two that always seem to stand up to the abuse.  So with that said, let’s jump into the Bosch Cordless Grinder review, model GWS18V-45CN and see if this grinder holds true.

Bosch Cordless Grinder Review Overview

Over the past couple of years, cordless grinders have made huge leaps forward.  A couple of years back, a grinder would stall out very easily when a user put any pressure on the tool.  With today’s grinders, they are much beefier and can perform a ton more work without cutting down or shutting off.

While you still have to be careful with your grinder purchases, the bigger brands have a better assortment of grinders that can be used in any application a corded grinder can be used.

Bosch Cordless Grinder Review Features

Bosch Cordless Grinder Review

Bosch designed the grinder around a brushless motor.   The GWS18V-45CN is a 4-1/2″ grinder which is one of the most common size grinders on the market.

Some of the most important features are features you can’t see such as protection for the user.  The grinder has KickBack Control to reduce the hazard if the grinder binds.  There is also drop control which shuts off the grinder if you drop it on the floor.  The grinder also features restart protection and soft starts.

Bosch Cordless Grinder Review

Here is what’s cool about this grinder.  This grinder is designed with the use of the new Bosch Core battery.  If you aren’t familiar with the Bosch Core battery, I would suggest checking out our article on the Bosch core.  The new battery isn’t a gimmick, this a true breakthrough for the power tool world and the cordless power tool market.  If you use the Core Battery, you will get a 110% increase in run time for the battery

Bosch Cordless Grinder Review

The back of the handle has a nice design and is slim, which give this a good feel and makes it more ergonomic for longer periods of use.

Bosch Cordless Grinder Review

The rubber overmold has some texture so even with gloves or dirt on the handle, you shouldn’t have a problem with control or the tool slipping.

Bosch Cordless Grinder Review

The Bosch grinder uses a slide switch instead of a paddle switch.  The slide switch can be pushed forward to turn the grinder on.  If you want to lock the grinder on, you have to slide forward and then push down.  The design still allows the user to quickly turn off the grinder and makes it easy.

Bosch Cordless Grinder Review

The head of the grinder is much smaller than I would expect for a grinder of this size and power.  This makes it great for tighter spots.

You can also see the arbor lock located on top of the tool.  The arbor lock is easy to access and isn’t too awkward when changing accessories on the grinder.

Bosch Cordless Grinder Review

The side handle is fairly comfortable and can be used on either the left or right side.  I do like how Bosch designed this will a slight angle for the side handle.  Some companies have decided to go with a straight 90-degree side handle, but this feels much more comfortable.

Bosch Cordless Grinder Review

Taking off or adjusting the angle of the guard is easy and doesn’t require a tool.  Just push a button and you can spin the guard to the correct location.

Bosch Cordless Grinder Review

As you know when you grinding or cutting, you create small metal particles.  Bosch has a screen to protect the air intake for the motor.  These can be removed for easy cleaning.  I am glad to see the screens included as it helps protect the tool for a longer life.

Bosch Cordless Grinder Review

One cool feature of this grinder is the ability to use it for Bluetooth.  Bosch sells a kit (GCY30-4) which is a Bluetooth tool module.  We will cover this in the future but for now, you can read more about it on the Bosch Website.  If you use this add-on with the Bosch Toolbox app, you will get more control over the grinder.

Bosch Cordless Grinder Review Performance

This grinder is specifically designed to get the most from the Bosch Core Batteries.  So since we were testing the batteries, e used this grinder for a wide variety of applications.  We tried to get it to bog down and for one thing, this doesn’t bog down like a lot of other grinders we have tested.  When we were grinding, you could extremely hard and still not get the tool to cut out.  So that’s a huge plus.

We cut through some rebar, metal pipe, and metal stakes.  Again, the tool performed as advertised.  As is quicker than other grinders we tested, no not necessarily.  But the more we used the tool, the more we could see that the runtime has increased.  We didn’t test it against other grinders for runtime as that is something we will do in the future.

Bosch Cordless Grinder Review Value

The Grinder will run about $179 as a bare tool on Amazon.  If you want the grinder with the Core Batteries, you will have to open up your pocketbook a little wider and fork out $250.  Now if your grinder is one of your main tools, then it’s worth it.

You can get some grinders for less, but when you couple this grinder with the Bosch battery, you do get a tool that tackles more jobs than a majority of other tools on the market.

Bosch Cordless Grinder Review Final Thoughts

Overall this is a great grinder. While I wish there were fewer vibrations, I love the fact that it doesn’t bog down like other grinders we have tested. Couple this grinder with the Bosch Core battery and you will see improvements in runtime over other 18V grinders on the market.

Grinders are a very useful tool.  They allow you to quickly cut metal and grind concrete, plus a ton of other applications. You can buy a variety of different sizes of grinders with a couple of common sizes, one being a 7″ grinder.  As you would expect, a 7″ grinder requires a lot of power, power once only supplied by a cord.  Well not anymore.  Makita has a cordless 7″ grinder available, so let’s jump into the Makita Cordless Grinder Review.

There are a ton of power tool manufacturers who sell grinders, but the one thing I have noticed is you have to be careful.  While corded grinders can pretty much do everything you throw at them, cordless grinders are a little different.  Some cordless grinders will cut out when grinding as they can’t handle the job.  So when you buy a cordless grinder, always make sure you know what task you will be throwing at it and make sure the grinder can keep up.

Makita Cordless Grinder Review Overview

There are a lot of different sized grinders available on the market.  Most are 4.5″ or 5″ which work most of the time.  However, there are times where you have a bigger job and need a bigger grinder like a 7″.  The 7″ grinder is going to allow you to perform more work in less time such as removing more metal or concrete faster.

A 7″ grinder is a monster of a grinder.  This is great for removing material fast but also requires more power.  So when we heard about the Makita 7″ grinder, we were a little surprised since this will require lots of power.

Makita Cordless Grinder Review Features

The Makita 7″ XAG12PT1 Grinder comes with more than just the grinder.  You get a bag, disks, batteries, charger and two guards.

Makita Cordless Grinder Review

Here is the one thing I am loving about Makita, their battery set up.  While most manufacturers decide to introduce a new battery line, Makita isn’t.  They aren’t forcing the user to buy new batteries as everything is working off their 18V battery.

The Makita Grinder uses 2-18V batteries, making this a 36v grinder.  How cool is this?  You get all the power, but don’t have to have a separate battery platform.

Makita designed the grinder around a brushless motor which allows this to be more efficient and have longer run times.  The motor delivers 7,800 rpms.  The tool features a soft start and electric brake.  In case the tool jerks or stops suddenly, the motor will shut down.

Makita has a consistent speed monitoring system.  The tool will automatically monitor the work and adjust the speed and torque for the application.

While a 7″ grinder is large, the handle isn’t.  Makita has a nice rubber grip and it’s the perfect size to wrap your hand around the handle and control the tool.

Makita designed an absorbing back handle.  The back handle is isolated from the motor housing which reduces vibrations.

Makita Cordless Grinder Review

Makita uses a paddle switch to operate the grinder.  Just depress the safety switch on the bottom of the paddle and you can then pull the paddle to start the grinder.

Makita Cordless Grinder Review

The spindle lock is located in the traditional spot, on the front and top of the tool.

The side handle can screw onto the left or right-hand side of the grinder.  The wheel guard doesn’t need a tool to adjust the angle and it’s easy to swap out each guard.

Makita Cordless Grinder Review

Both batteries sit on the back of the tool to help even out the balance of the tool.  The batteries are protected by a metal cage.Makita Cordless Grinder Review

To protect the motor, Makita implemented a screen to keep dust and debris away from the motor.

Makita Cordless Grinder Review Performance

Makita Cordless Grinder Review

I am doing a ton of work to my house.  We took off a back room and there was a bunch of Rebar protruding above the concrete.  I wanted to cut them off for safety reasons.  Sure I could use my smaller grinder, but when you have a 7″?  I think it’s pretty obvious that the grinder handles this task without any issues.

I did notice that this grinder has very low vibrations.  Another item that stood out was the balance of the tool.  While the tool weighs about 11 lbs, it sure didn’t feel like it when I was using it at different angles.

I love the soft start up and the electronic brake.  Besides safety reasons, it just makes the tool feel so much better.

Makita Cordless Grinder Review

Okay, I know Makita touts this for grinding and cut off, but I wanted to try it on concrete.  Now your runtime will drop if using it on concrete, but we still have to give it a shot.

We installed a Makita 7″ diamond blade.  All I can say is it’s like a hot knife through butter.  This eats concrete without any issues.

We are giving this to a local contractor who has a garage job where he has a bunch of cracks to fix before they seal the floor.  Follow us on Instagram and see how well it works.  I am sure it will do great, but curious about the runtime with an application like that.

Makita Cordless Grinder Review Value

If you look at corded grinders, you can see that most of them are about $200 to $250.  The Makita XAG12PT1 is $400 on The Home Depot website.  So you are paying about $150 to $200 more to lose the cord.

If you are using a 7″ all day every day, you will still have to stick with a corded version.  But if you need a 7″ cordless grinder, the extra cost is worth it and not a bad price considering everything Makita gives, which includes the batteries and charger.

Makita Cordless Grinder Final Thoughts

Who would have thought it would be possible to run a 7″ grinder on batteries and actually get some serious work done?  Makita did an awesome job with this grinder as it’s powerful, plus you don’t have to mess with a cord.  Anyone looking to lose the cord and needs a big grinder, well I think you know where you should turn, the Makita XAG12PT1.

Grinders are the cornerstone for many jobs, like ripping down concrete.  While many manufacturers offer various types of grinders, there is a limited amount that offers powerful 7″ grinders to get some serious work done.  Makita has a corded grinder model GA7011C that is not only powerful but easy to work with.  So let’s jump into our Makita 7″ Angle Grinder Review.

Makita 7″ Angle Grinder Review Overview

Before we jump into the Makita 7″ grinder review, I do want to bring something to your attention and that is customer reviews.  If you look on The Home Depot or Amazon, this grinder doesn’t have a ton of reviews and some of them are negative.

Reading through the reviews on Amazon one guy gave it a 1 star because it didn’t work for his application.  Not sure what it was but was it the tools fault or did the guy not get the right type of tool for the application?

On The Home Depot, one guy said it was too messy.  When we ran ours, it did an awesome job.  Another guy said when he pushed hard, the grinder would slow down.  Okay while we didn’t experience this, at least that is a valid argument.

So just wanted to let you know before we jump ahead.

Makita 7″ Angle Grinder Review Features

Makita 7" Angle Grinder Review

The grinder features a powerful 15 Amp brushed motor that delivers 6,000 rpm’s.  The grinder features a soft start along with an electronic speed control which maintains consistent speed even under loads.  The tool only weighs 7.5 lbs.

The rear handle is very comfortable and easy to hold while controlling the grinder.  There is a large trigger switch which also features a lock-on function.

Makita 7" Angle Grinder Review

The included side handle can be positioned on the right or left side of the tool.

Makita 7" Angle Grinder Review

The spindle lock is located on top of the tool.  The button is large and easy to push even while wearing gloves.

Where the cord meets the tool, there is extra rubber to protect from breaks and tears.

Makita 7″ Angle Grinder Review Performance

Okay, I messed up.  We did a bunch of grinding on the cement block but I got the camera a little too close when we weren’t using the dust collection system.  All the pictures of them in action didn’t come out because of the thick cement dust on the camera.

Makita 7" Angle Grinder Review

We ended up hooking the grinder up to the Makita dust collecting guard and used a Makita Diamond cup wheel.  After using the grinder with the dust management system, I can’t understand why the one person complained about the dust.  For us, it did an awesome job keeping the dust at a minimum.

http://toolsinaction.com/makita-diamond-cup-wheel-review/

Even when we pushed down on the grinder, we had a hard time getting it to bog down. Bottom line if I am going to grind down a garage floor or threshold, this is the grinder and dust system I am going to use.  The grinder does an awesome job.

Makita 7″ Angle Grinder Review Value

The Makita 7″ grinder retails for about $175 on The Home Depot.  Compared to other 7″ grinders on the market, this is a little pricey.  You do get more features than some of the other grinders, but it really depends upon what applications this grinder will be used for.

Makita 7″ Angle Grinder Review Final Thoughts

The Makita grinder is a workhorse.  If you are looking for a grinder that will make your job a little easier, the Makita GA7011C should be something to consider.  The grinder, along with the dust collection system did a great job containing all the debris and waste material.

We weren’t planning on reviewing this grinder, but when we reviewed the Makita chainsaw, this grinder was a free addition.  Since grinders are so widely used, we figured we would take a closer look.  While most manufacturers offer some type of cordless grinder, not all are created equal.  So how does the Makita stack up?  Well now would be a great time to get into our Makita XAG06Z Cordless Grinder Review.

Makita XAG06Z Cordless Grinder Review – Overview

Makita XAG06Z Cordless Grinder Review

Makita has one of the largest lineups of power tools and especially cordless power tools.  In regards to grinders, Makita has been making cordless grinders for a while.  Their grinders are always highly praised by tradesman because of the high quality and powerful motors.

Makita XAG06Z Cordless Grinder Review

The XAG06Z is powered by their 18V battery platform.  You can buy this grinder in a bare tool or in a kit with batteries, plus it will be included in some other purchases.

Makita XAG06Z Cordless Grinder Review – Features

Makita XAG06Z Cordless Grinder Review

The Makita grinder is built around an efficient brushless motor.  Not only does the brushless motor increase efficiency, but it increases the longevity of the grinder.

Makita XAG06Z Cordless Grinder Review

There are two awesome features to this grinder.  First, is automatic speed change.  This feature will automatically adjust the speed and torque during operation.  However, if the rotation of the tool suddenly slows or stops, the electronic torque control turns off the motor.

Makita XAG06Z Cordless Grinder Review

Unfortunately you can not attach the handle to the top of the grinder, however, you can attach the side handle to either the left or right side of the tool.

Makita XAG06Z Cordless Grinder Review

The paddle trigger does not allow for a variable speed.  You are either on or off, but no in between.

Makita Cordless Grinder Review – Performance

Makita XAG06Z Cordless Grinder Review

This is a grinder with a hard punch.  To be more specific, it’s not a punch to the user, but to whatever you are grinding or cutting off.  The grinder has plenty of power to easily complete a job.

The grinder isn’t heavy and only weighs 5.6 lbs and that is with a battery.  So it’s very easy to work with and control without getting tired.

Makita XAG06Z Cordless Grinder Review

Cutting metal is quick with the 8,500 of rpm output.

One of the most notable aspects of this tool is the soft start up.  I am so used to having a grinder twist on start up, so the soft start-up is a nice welcome.

Makita XAG06Z Cordless Grinder Review

Most people will find the slim body, with the rubber over-mold, very comfortable when using.

Makita Cordless Grinder Review – Final Thoughts

Overall it’s hard to go wrong with the purchase of the Makita cordless grinder.  The tool is powerful and packed with some cool features.  While some might not like the paddle switch, Makita does offer other options.  The grinder will be up to almost any task you toss its way.

Go to any job site and you will see people using angle grinders like crazy.  Grinders are used for cutting rebar, grinding concrete for thresholds and more.  The list goes on.  Well if you are in the business and use grinders and you need something tough, you will be happy to know that Hilti has two cordless options for you.  They have the AG 500-A22 which is their 22V grinder and they have their AG 600A36 which is their 36V grinder.  Before I jump into them, you will be happy to know they switched the arbor size back to the standard or common size of 5/8″.

Hilti 22V Grinder – AG 500-A22

The AG 500 is designed to be used with discs up to 5″.  The grinder has a ton of speed coming in at 9,500 rpm’s making this great for cutting applications.  The grinder uses a deadman’s paddle switch which I believe a lot of job sites are requiring this just in case something happens to the user while they are using a grinder.

The grinder is built with a brushless motor which will give this longevity, plus making it more efficient.  Having a more efficient motor means longer run-time and more work done per charge.  The tool also has an electronic break and will stop the disc within a second. One thing I really like about this grinder is the blade guard.  Most of the time you have two different blade guards.  With this, it’s one guard and you can snap the cover in place.

This grinder will be great for applications such as cutting or grinding cast, steel or stainless steel pipes.  Installing channels for threaded rod and notching steel.

Hilti 36V Grinder – AG 600-A36

Hilti Cordless Grinder

The AG 600 is pretty much the same as the AG 500 with some key differences.  First, and the most obvious is that the AG 600 uses a 36V battery to power the grinder.   The RPM is a little slower at 8,500 which means this probably has more torque since it can take a large disc, up to 6″.   As with the AG 500, this has active torque control to protect the user, plus a Deadman paddle switch.

I am not sure how to explain this, but this grinder is great.  I love the feel, the balance and this grinder is made for the job site.  The guard is identical to the AG 500 which I like the design and set up as it’s easy to change between the two.  One thing I forgot to mention about the AG 500 is that both models offer a tool-free blade guard rotation.  If you need to change the angle of the blade guard, just push a button and you can adjust the angle. Easy and simple, just the way I like it.

I am happy to see that Hilti changed the arbor size and went with the common size.  If you own the Hilti line, this is a great addition to your line up of tools.  These grinders are tough and made to last.  With a warranty of 20-2-1, you know Hilti has your back.  What other company has a 20-year warranty on defective parts and a two-year warranty on wear and tear?

When it comes to grinders, Bosch is one of the top manufacturers.  When I was a labor back in 1992, we had a ton of grinders on the jobsite and beat the heck out of them.  The one thing I can say about Bosch, is rarely will you ever see a tool fail.  These tools are design to be abused under the heaviest conditions.  That’s why we are going to take this over to Bodes place and let him use it while he builds his next box truck for tree hauling.  So for today, I just wanted to let you know Bosch has this corded grinder on the market, model GWS13-50.

The GWS13-50 is a corded 13 Ah grinder with vibration control.  After the video we played with the grinder and as with other Bosch grinders, this thing is great. Powerful and low vibrations on the hands.  Check out the stats and more about it over at Bosch Grinder.

I always look at Ridgid as a sleeping giant.  Ridgid has some great tools, but they are not on everyone’s radar.  If you have been watching us for a while, you have probably seen some of our tool fights.  We usually have Ridgid mixed in the fight and almost every time they have come out on top.  They are just quality tools and they don’t beat you up on price.  Since they aren’t on everyone’s radar, I wanted to show off the Ridgid 18V 4-1/2″ angle grinder.

Ridgid Cordless Grinder

Ridgid designed this with a brushless motor which means it’s more efficient, which is a huge plus for a tool like this.  A grinder can eat through batteries, so having a little advantage such as a brushless motor is a huge key to success for these types of tools.  The guard can be changed without having to use a tool.  Just press a button and rotate it anywhere you want.  As a note, you can not rotate the guard 360° as the tool will prevent this.  Not a huge deal because once it hits the tool and you can’t move the guard anymore, just rotate it the other way.  You will still get a 360 ° coverage.  This grinder comes with a side handle.  While most allow you to mount their side handle in two positions, Ridgid allows the user to mount it in three different positions.  You can screw it into the left or right side, plus the top, which is great for the side cuts.  The handle has a slim design so when you are working with gloves, it’s easy to hold onto and control.  The tool only weighs 4.4 lbs. and features a lock-on switch.  The tool has a no-load speed of 8,500 rpm and does have a good safety feature.  Say your grinder is in your tool bag without a battery and somehow the switch gets bumped to the on position.  When you get to the job and put a battery in the tool, it will not automatically turn on the tool.  You will first have to turn the grinder to the off position and then turn it back to the on position.  For me, I think this is a great safety feature.  I have seen some tools that do not have this feature and if you’re not paying attention, it surely will wake you up.

Bottomline, this is another great product from Ridgid.  It’s powerful, easy to control and reliable.  Now sure what else you can ask for in a tool, but next time you are at Home Depot, pick one up and let us know what you think.

Yesterday we posted about the new Bosch 6Ah battery, so it’s only fitting we talk today about the new Bosch cordless grinder.  In my opinion, Bosch makes the best grinders.  Just in case you were wondering, no they didn’t pay us to say that.  I had a couple older ones that I have beat the heck out of and they keep on grinding.  While they are corded versions, I wouldn’t expect anything less with their cordless version.  Now if you know Bosch, you are expecting a professional tool that will last for years, so let’s see what Bosch packed into this bad boy.

Bosch opted to build this grinder around a 4 pole motor instead of a brushless motor.  I know brushless is the way of the future, but brushless motor seems like they shut down quicker.  With a 4-pole motor, this thing is a workhorse and just keeps.  The new grinder comes in either a 4.5″ or 5″ platform and is based off their 18V battery platform.  The Bosch cordless grinder has an optimized gearing system that provides 0-10,000 rpm.

As we all know, grinders aren’t the most friendly tool for your hands and arms.  Good thing Bosch designed this with a two position vibration control handle.  Just unscrew the handle and you can use it for lefties or righties.

Bosch Cordless GrinderAs far as the operation of the grinder, there is a nice thumb switch located on the side of the tool to turn it on or off.  Overall the handle is a decent size for most hands and the balance of the tool is great, which makes it much better for grinding and cutting.  Now Dan didn’t like the fact you needed a tool to change the guard direction.  While it is more time consuming, it’s not a huge deal, at least for me.  I would have liked to have seen a quick change guard system, but it isn’t a deal breaker.  I would have loved to see another guard for grinding included in the kit, but again, it is what it is.

What I like most about this grinder, besides power, is the size and weight of the tool.  The grinder only weighs 4 lbs which makes it a very lightweight grinder.  Again, better for preventing user fatigue.

Overall, I like this grinder.  While I think Bosch could have made some upgrades with the grinder, it’s still a great grinder.  The tool is designed to be abused, designed to have a long run time and designed for power, which it has all three.  Since these are the most important aspects of a grinder, I think Bosch did a great job with this new release.  If you are a Bosch fan or looking for a new grinder line, the Bosch cordless grinder won’t disappoint.

Over the years we have done a bunch of grinders, but this grinder is the first of it’s kind.  As you know Milwaukee always pushes the limit on what they can do with their tools to make them better, safer and allow the user to be more productive.  So let me introduce you to the new M18 Milwaukee 2783 Grinder.  As with the other Milwaukee tools you can get this as a bare kit 2783-20 or with batteries 2783-22.  So what is so special about this grinder?

The first big thing is the braking feature.  The tool will come to a complete stop within 2 seconds.  Also, they implemented a kickback reducing clutch, another added safety feature to this grinder.  So I know what you’re expecting, with the new safety features, how much can this really act like a grinder instead of just a cut off tool?  While this grinder has improved safety features, you can still do a lot such as grind, surface preparation and yes cutting.  The one thing that really surprised me was how powerful this grinder is.  I thought for sure if we just applied a little pressure, we could get the overload to kick in, but it was much harder than we expected.

Another huge advantage to this tool is the tool free options.  The Milwaukee 2783 has a proprietary nut called FIXTEC that allows the user to change accessories by hand and also adjust the guard without any tools. The tool comes with Type-1 and type-27 guards.   Another great design about this grinder is it’s proven.  Milwaukee mimicked their corded grinder by using the same gearing system, anti vibration handle and tool body into this new cordless grinder.  The grinder has an 8,500 RPM no load speed.  In regards to the size, it can handle 4.5″ & 5″ disks.

The grinder uses a paddle switch in order to turn on and off the unit.  While I know a majority of people probably love the paddle switch, I tend to favor the top on/off switch.  Maybe because that is what I am use to, but either way I wish Milwaukee offered it in that style also.

I love the fact that Milwaukee built a great grinder.  While their old version was nice, the overload would tend to kick in easily.  With this grinder you get all the power and safety features, but without the hassle of it shutting down on you.  Bottom line, this grinder rocks and if you want productivity in a cordless grinder, this has to be your first choice.
