Today’s the day. You are going to clean the garage, or organize the junk drawer, or chaos cabinet – whatever it is, you start motivated and committed. But then you find that one item: the 100 ft. extension cord, the work boots, your collection of carabiners, etc. You get stuck on how to store it in a useful and accessible way and lose your steam. Thankfully, Lariat Brand Hook & Loop Storage Straps (similar to Velcro) are designed to work in a variety of applications and can be combined for totally unique storage solutions for your home, travel, and beyond.

Guide

Types of Loop & Hook Straps in Lariat Brands Variety Pack

Lariat Brand Hook & Loop Storage Straps come in a 15-piece set that includes four different strap styles in a variety of sizes with three different hook styles, two carabiners, and a water-resistant storage bag. Each strap cinches to wrap securely around your storage items.

The hook styles are grommet, D-ring, and round spring clip to fit most hook types. The straps range from 1-2 inches wide and 9-25 inches long. Each strap is made of a thick, durable nylon blend for strength and longevity, allowing you to use these straps again and again.

While each strap should offer the exact storage solution you need, the straps can be combined to offer unique storage solutions. For instance, maybe your 25 in. strap is perfect for wrapping up your hose but the D-ring doesn’t fit the hook. A smaller grommet or round spring clip strap can be combined to provide that specific hanging style you need. Additional straps can also be used to increase binding or carrying strength.

Lariat Brand Straps Home Storage Solutions

Lariat Straps will become a go-to storage solution in your home the second they make it through the door. They are perfect for use in the house, garage, shed, barn, storage closet, under the sink, or anywhere.

The most popular Lariat Strap home storage solutions are:

  • Binding and hanging hoses or extension cords
  • Holding and hanging work boots
  • Binding together craft supplies and tools
  • Organizing together your go-to or useful tools and equipment for specific projects

These storage solutions only scratch the surface for all the different ways you can use Lariat straps for your own unique storage needs.

Lariat Brand Straps Travel Storage Solutions

Lariat Brand Hook & Loop Storage Straps are great for travel too. Some popular Lariat travel storage solutions include…

  • Hanging your pack and supplies while camping
  • Bundling your electronic cords and preventing tangles
  • Extra security for luggage
  • Hold items closer together to properly fit inside luggage, or prevent items from rattling around.

Lariat Straps are also great to have on hand for travel emergencies. I recommend leaving a variety pack in your car or truck, RV, boat, suitcase, and such.

Other Uses for Lariat Brand Straps

There really is no limit to how and where you can use your Lariat Straps. I can see these helping trade professionals store items in their work truck, such as hanging their hard hats or binding together equipment. These straps can be used to hang items in a locker, or temporarily hang something while it dries, or to keep away from young children.

Last week Hurricane Helene caused catastrophic damage to Asheville, North Carolina and the surrounding areas, and Hurricane Milton, a category 5 hurricane, is on track to hit Florida tomorrow. These storms destroy whole cities and displace entire communities. Yet, we don’t believe it will happen to us, so we don’t prepare. As the autumn breeze begins to blow, we welcome shorter days, longer nights, and also
a great reminder to kick it into high gear at home and on the jobsite while the weather allows. From preparing, protecting, to enjoying our home and workspace, here are four fall home finds sure to make life at home and on the jobsite better and easier.

Fall Home & Jobsite Products

Swann USA Max Ranger 4K Solar Outdoor Security Camera for a SmartER Home (or Jobsite!)

We all have something smart in our lives, a light bulb, thermostat, a doorbell, cameras, voice assistants, but let’s face it, sometimes they don’t feel so “smart” with lost connectivity. Swann Security has been in development for a solution to this problem for years, and drumroll please, it is finally here! Meet the Max Ranger 4K Solar Outdoor Security Camera, a camera that you don’t set up closest to your home or office, because it needs your Wi-Fi, a camera you set up on the perimeter of your space looking in. All eyes on your property, it’s like hiring security detail to surround your home.

Go the distance: this camera can reach the hub up to 650 ft. impeded and up to 2000 ft unimpeded – that’s the equivalent of approx. two to six football fields respectively. The camera works on its own Wi-Fi called HaLow. HaLow’s range is longer than many other IoT technology options and it provides a more robust connection in challenging environments where the ability to penetrate walls or other barriers is an important consideration. The camera also has a solar panel built on the top, so no worries about recharging batteries, or running power out to it. Oh, and no monthly subscription fees for stored videos.

Add the Swann USA Max Ranger 4K Solar Outdoor Security Camera to an existing detail you have on the house, or grab the whole suite of Swann Security (I just installed their 4K doorbell, it’s movie picture quality!). The Swann USA Security bundle is a great fall home or jobsite product because you ensure your space is secure while staying cozy inside.

  • Customer Review: I recently installed the Swann MaxRanger Wireless 4K NVR System for my home, and I am extremely satisfied with its performance. This system is perfect for anyone looking to enhance their home security. Setting it up was straightforward, thanks to the clear instructions. The outdoor cameras are sturdy and weatherproof, ensuring they operate smoothly in all conditions. The 4K resolution offers exceptionally clear video, capturing fine details both day and night. The night vision feature is particularly impressive, delivering sharp images even in complete darkness. This ensures reliable 24/7 monitoring. With wide viewing angles, the cameras cover extensive areas without missing any spots. The WiFi connectivity is dependable, allowing me to access live feeds and recordings from my phone and computer with ease.” Amazon Review
  • Where to Buy: 2-pack available for $699 or 4-pack available for $999 on Amazon.
  • Fall Home Deals: Get up to 20% off select Swann USA Security Cameras through Oct 7.

Quick Dam Flood Barriers So You Are Prepared for Whatever Fall (and Winter) Bring

Who doesn’t love singing in the rain?! I’ll tell you who, your property when the rain has overstayed its welcome and the flooding starts. With unpredictable weather constantly brewing it’s good to be prepared for flooding. Flood damage is one of the leading homeowner insurance claims, and can be mitigated by grabbing a bag of Quick Dam Flood Barriers and tucking them in your cabinet until needed.

They don’t need much space, and unlike traditional sandbags that are bulky, heavy, and often times sold out when you need them, Quick Dam rises to the occasion when needed (pun intended).

With a gel interior, Quick Dam Bags (and barriers) are water activated and swell upon contact with water. So, when you see the water pouring where it shouldn’t be open a bag, pull out a Quick Dam and place it in the way. Once water hits, the bags grow to 12in x 24in x 3.5in high. Bags start at 3 ft., barriers go up to 17ft.

Quick Dam products are a must-have product on my fall home and jobsite list because no one needs to worry about flooding during a cold fall rainfall.

Hot dam (another pun!) am glad I found Quick Dam at the National Hardware Show.

  • Customer Review: “Bought it for my brother, and his came in handy when area flooded. Worked great for him,,,So we bought one for ourselves to have on hand “just in case”, and Wow does it work great. Basement would have flooded…but all was soaked in by the water barrier. We dried them out and have them on hand in case of another emergency. Very worth it.” Amazon Review
  • Where to Buy: Quick Dam products range from $18-$100 on Amazon.

Rhino Cart to Make Things Easier to Move at Home and on the Jobsite

Fall is bustling, which means there is always something to move. From large, awkward and heavy items like furniture and appliances, to on-the-job needs like bags of concrete, Rhino Cart is the most reliable caddy you’ve ever had. Rhino Cart is a heavy-duty, all-terrain moving cart, with eight resilient wheels that won’t deflate, built to go over any terrain. I rode a washing machine over a front door threshold at a trade show, trust me it works. It can telescope from 6 to 46 inches and even detach to go on those larger pieces, it burdens a heavy load too 1000 pounds plus. You’ll be grateful you got this fall home and jobsite cart next time you get the urge to rearrange your home or workshop.

  • Customer Review: “Not only have I moved a lot, I’ve also moved all my own stuff each time. I even own my own moving van, so the need to move and have dollies is way old hat for me. After recently remodeling my kitchen and installing porcelain tiles over a wooden subfloor, I was concerned about my usual dollies and the potential damage to the floor moving a huge and very heavy refrigerator across the newly tiled floor and into its space. I discovered this tool by pure chance, and boy, oh boy, am I glad I did!
Delicate floors? No problem! Tight spaces? No problem at all! Very heavy weight? No issues at all! Beyond a shadow of a doubt, this is the best moving tool I’ve ever owned for close quarters, very heavy items, and not having a crew to move things. We’ve since moved heavy ovens, ranges, refrigerators and various unruly boxes. In each case, the ease of operation and move is remarkable. I recommend this tool without any reservations whatsoever.”
    Amazon Review
  • Where to Buy: $159.95 on Amazon.

The Outdoor Plus Fireplaces & Waterfalls and more to Light UP Outdoor Living

Creating an outdoor oasis to relax from everyday stresses continues to be a trend at home, and with crisp fall nights ahead, adding a fire feature is a great way to extend the season and create cozy fall home vibes. Add a water and a fire feature and now we are feeling like we are at a resort (and in some cases we can be with these finds!). I always recommend when getting a project done, or sourcing materials it’s good to go to a source that specializes in that one thing. I know it costs more, but I am a fan of Made in the USA, also with patented features that have been around for a while, and with some five star reviews. Yes, I ask a lot, but being in the business for 20+ years I’ve seen lots of brands come and go. I recently brought The Outdoor Plus with me on to a TV segment, because they are a culmination of everything above.

A couple of my favorites are the Maya, a graceful waterfall that comes out of a square rocky fire bowl and Paradise Falls is luxury with a free-standing rainfall into a lengthy fire pit capturing the beauty below; although the Atlas, a round dome covered in water, with a surrounding round fire feature stole the show. They also have fully customizable options so if you’re a homeowner, a landscaper, or a builder this is for you.

oneleaf Atmosphere Portable & Rechargeable LED Stackable Lights, 3-pack

These oneleaf Atmosphere Portable & Rechargeable LED Lights provide a soft ambient glow that is more enjoyable for dining after the sun goes down.

  • Review: “Ok, so maaaaybe $40 for a three pack of lights seems a bit pricey but these lights are really good and the construction makes me think they will last a long time. When I first opened the box, I wasn’t really impressed, but then I took the lights out and started fiddling around and realized these are great! Super light weight. Long lasting and easily rechargable. Light options to set the mood. If you choose these lights, you really will get a good bang for your buck!” – Amazon Review.
  • Where to Buy: $36.99 on Amazon. Available in white or black.

Svater Outdoor String Lights

Picnic Month: string lights for backyard picnics

Maybe you’re more of a backyard picnic-er. A backyard picnic is still a great way to celebrate Picnic Month. It’s also a great excuse to add some ambience to your home. String lights are a great for this. There’s also a variety of options: Edison bulbs, globe lights, fairy lights, coloring changing LEDs, etc. I have these Svater Outdoor String Lights in my own backyard. They have proven to be extremely durable and the price was fantastic compared to other brands.

  • Kiaya’s Review: “My husband put these up at the beginning of summer. First of all, they are way cheaper than other brands. However, they have turned out to be more durable than more expensive brands our friends have used. We have around 600 ft. of lights total and maybe two have broke due to storms. Fortunately, each pack comes with a few replacement bulbs. One of our friends spent at least three times as much per smaller strand, and most bulbs broke during set-up.”
  • Where to Buy: 25-200 ft. available for $18.99-79.96.

THERMACELL Mosquito Repellent

Picnic Month: mosquito repellent for picnics

The THERMACELL Mosquito Repellent is this year’s summer game changer for me. As a Midwesterner I have received too many mosquito bites throughout my life. I’ve also tried every type of mosquito repellent. Nothing works better than the THERMACELL. Turn it on and 5 minutes later mosquitoes are gone. I also definitely prefer this to dousing myself and kids in mosquito repellent.

  • Kiaya’s Review: “I have spent more time outdoors this summer than ever before thanks to my THERMACELL. We recently invested in our patio and enjoy watching outdoor movies with our kids. Unfortunately, this is prime mosquito hour. But turn the THERMACELL on and we have a 20 ft. mosquito-free perimeter. We use the rechargeable model at home, but use the propane model when camping.”
  • Where to Buy: Different models and refills available for $21-45 on Amazon.

DOWILLDO Rechargeable Camping Fan & Lantern

Picnic Month: portable fan for picnics

When it comes to picnics the goal is to pack light. So one product that provides three functions is way better than carrying three separate items. This Rechargeable Camping Fan not only keeps you cool, but it provides up to 38 hours of light, and it can charge your electronic devices. It can also be placed on top of something or hung up for added versatility.

  • Review: “My upstairs A/C isn’t working properly after a storm caused our power to cut off 3x. I pulled this newly purchased fan out of the box & was surprised to realize it was delivered fully charged. I put it on my nightstand and ran it on low 11AM – 9AM. When I checked it at 9AM, it still had 50% battery life left!! I slept very well with steady cool air blowing. Super happy 100% with this fan!” – Amazon Review
  • Where to Buy: Available in four colors for $35.99 on Amazon.

NXONE Sun Shade Shelter

Picnic Month: portable sun shade for picnics

For some celebrating Picnic Month is a full day activity. However, sometimes you just need to take a break from the sun or want to give the kids a place to lie down. This sun shade shelter provides shade and UV protection for up to three adults and comes with its own carrying case to easily accompany you to any picnic outing.

  • Review: “I bought this for a festival we were gonna be at for a whole day, partially to help with the sun, and also so I had a space to retreat to if I was overwhelmed. And it was worth it!” – Amazon Review
  • Where to Buy: $49.99 on Amazon.

Kerfulty Portable Compartment Snack Container

Picnic Month: portable snack box for picnic

If I had to say one thing I don’t like about picnics it’s that you need to pack light, but when everyone likes different things it can all get complicated. This pre-portioned snack tray is great for 1) making sure everyone has something they like, and 2) keeping those snacks nice and secure. The airtight seal keeps everything locked in place and the handle and snaps are durable and convenient.

  • Review: “Our little really only likes fruit and vegetables to snack on. I wanted something to keep all of her snacks handy without pulling out multiple containers from the fridge this summer. I make this snackle box and just grab and go. Perfect for long car rides, picnics, days by the pool or even going to grandmas house. The lid stays on tight!” – Amazon Review.
  • Where to Buy: 4-9 compartment models range from $10.99-19.99.

Do you love summer but want to take a break from the unrelenting heat sometimes? In 2014 we shared how Arctic Cove 18V Bucket Top Misting Fans offer an an affordable and portable way to cool off during your summer activities, such as sports games, yard work, or outdoor parties. The Arctic Cove fans have since been discontinued, but RYOBI Misting Fans have filled the void with multiple ways for you to cool off with a refreshing mist this summer.

The most exciting part about RYOBI Misting Fans is that RYOBI offers consumers two different models to choose from. Let’s take a look at what RYOBI offers.

But first…

“Did RYOBI Buy Arctic Cove Misting Fans?”

RYOBI didn’t have to. Arctic Cove and RYOBI are both owned by Techtronic Industries (TTI). This is why Arctic Cove misting fans were compatible with RYOBI 4.0Ah batteries. TTI appeared to just white label the fans with another one of the company’s brands.

Our 2014 article actually received a lot of positive feedback about the Arctic Cove fans. However, RYOBI is the number one homeowner/DIY’er power tool and outdoor power equipment (OPE) brand. TTI likely realized the fans would sell better under the RYOBI brand.

According to Reddit, the bucket top misting fan actually went between the two brands with RYOBI supposedly selling it initially. So, it’s not shocking the product ended back with RYOBI, which has expanded on misting fan options for consumers.

RYOBI Misting Fans

As we said, RYOBI has at least two different misting fan options, along with multiple packages for consumers to select from. Let’s take a closer look at the two main options.

RYOBI ONE+ 18V Bucket Top Misting Fan

  • Product Name: RYOBI ONE+ 7-1/2 in. Bucket Top Misting Fan Kit
  • Model #: PCL851K
  • Features: Mists up to 14 ft. for over five hours with included battery kit, produces 840 FPM of air velocity, has two speed and two mist settings, can be used with a bucket or garden hose, quiet WHISPER SERIES performance, and comes with a 3-year manufacturer’s warranty.
  • TIA Review: This kit is identical to the Arctic Cove misting fan. It even comes with the same amp 1.5 Ah battery but with a true RYOBI label. This should also be compatible with strong RYOBI batteries for increased runtime.
  • Where to Buy: RYOBI 18V Bucket Top Misting Fan Kit is $99 from The Home Depot.

RYOBI ONE+ 18V Misting Air Cannon Fan

  • Product Name: RYOBI ONE+ 18V Hybrid WHISPER SERIES 12 in. Misting Air Cannon Fan
  • Model #: PCL8501K
  • Features: Mists up to 15 ft. for up to seven hours with battery, or continuous with cord; has airflow of 1,400 CFM and 620 FPM air speed, features a pivoting head, two speed settings, and quiet WHISPER SERIES performance.
  • TIA Review: This model lacks the bucket top function, but is a larger RYOBI misting fan with a larger battery. This is a great option for people who plan on using this misting fan with a hose and is perfect for home use.
  • Where to Buy: RYOBI ONE+ 18V Misting Air Cannon Fan Kit is $199 from The Home Depot.

Already have a RYOBI battery? Browse RYOBI Misting Fan tool-only options at The Home Depot. You can find a limited supply of select RYOBI Misting Fans on Amazon as well.

More Summer A/C Hacks

The RYOBI Misting Fans are probably the best “portable A/C hacks” due to their design, price, and RYOBI’s dependable performance. However, we have a few additional A/C hacks for those trying hard to stay cool this summer.

Can you believe these A/C hacks? I think I’ll stick with getting a RYOBI Misting Fan this summer. Tell us in the comments what’s the craziest thing you have done to beat the heat.

Tool in Action

Tools in Action always wants you to be equipped with the right tools, even when you step outside the garage and into the great outdoors. It’s camping season and two of your favorite tool brands have tons of great camping essentials, but which brand has the best for your adventures? Today we’re going RYOBI vs Makita: Camping Essentials, where we compare camping equipment from each brand to find who is better for outdoor enthusiasts.

We will be comparing each brands overall camping lineup and take a closer look at each brand’s power options, price points and more.

RYOBI vs Makita Guide

Things to Consider When Buying Camping Essentials

Camping essentials are any items you need for you and your family/friends to have a comfortable stay on your camping trip or outdoor adventure. This can include basics such as water and toilet paper, to amenities like coffee makers, electric coolers, and power stations. Because RYOBI and Makita are power tool brands with impressive cordless technology we’ll be looking at the latter of camping essentials.

Still, regardless of what products each brand offers, here are a few things to consider when buying the right camping essentials for you:

  • What kind of camping or outdoor adventures do you do: campgrounds, off-grid, RV-ing or boating, day vs night hiking, etc.
  • Frequency and duration of trips.
  • The amount and type of equipment you bring with: electronic devices and cell phones, solar devices, limited and primitive tools and technology, kids toys, etc.

Once you have reviewed these ideas and fully understand the outside adventurer you are you will have a better grasp on the kind and quality of the camping essentials you need.

RYOBI vs Makita: at a glance

RYOBI is historically a homeowner/DIY’er brand and the price reflects that. RYOBI power tools and outdoor power equipment (OPE) generally cost less than pro brands. However, RYOBI still provides consumers with a high level of quality at an affordable price point.

Makita is a well-respected pro brand that promises a high level of performance with its power tools and OPE products. Makita tools and equipment tend to price higher but offer a higher performance compared to RYOBI products.

Our guess is that overall RYOBI products are going to be cheaper and more suited for average weekend camping adventures. Meanwhile, Makita will have more expensive products but can provide more power or power products longer.

But let’s dive in and find out.

RYOBI Camping Essentials

RYOBI vs Makita Outdoor

In general, RYOBI uses the RYOBI 18V Li-ion Battery to power most of its camping essentials, with a few items using the RYOBI 40V Li-ion Battery.

At a glance, RYOBI’s lineup of camping essentials includes: 4 portable power options, 4 portable speaker options, 4 portable fans, 4 portable lights, a cooler, a tire inflator, and a portable bug zapper. The majority of these items provide consumers with at least four options allowing them to choose something within their power needs and budget.

RYOBI Camping Portable Power Options

The first three options are great for charging and powering small electronic devices, such as cell phones, tablets, and laptops. Any of these would be great to keep your phone and communication devices powered for traditional or off-grid camping.

The RYOBI 18V ONE+ 1800-WATT Power Station Kit is by far the strongest RYOBI portable power option and honestly is more of a back-up power source. However, some people may want to power a TV or fridge on their outdoor adventure.

RYOBI Camping Portable Speaker Options

RYOBI Camping Portable Fans

RYOBI Camping Portable Lights

Misc. RYOBI Camping Essentials

Overall, RYOBI’s camping essentials are fairly small and easy to transport. Most items definitely have a minimal design, low energy needs, and are designed for light camping.

RYOBI doesn’t lump its other equipment with its camping supplies. Many of its other products such as leaf blowers or general power drill kits also make great camping essentials.

Makita OUTDOOR ADVENTURE Camping Essentials

Makita Outdoor Adventure vs RYOBI camping essentials

Makita harnesses the power of Makita 18V Batteries to power its OUTDOOR ADVENTURE camping line. When comparing Makita and RYOBI camping essentials side-by-side one thing is clear: Makita focused on creating multifunctional products so campers and adventurers could minimize the amount of products they take with them. This includes speakers with built-in USB charging ports, LED lights with built-in radios, an electric cooler with heating capabilities, etc.

Makita OUTDOOR ADVENTURE Portable Power Options

Makita OUTDOOR ADVENTURE has one smaller 18V portable power option and it’s the Makita OUTDOOR ADVENTURE 18V LXT Power Source.

Makita may only offer one option, but what sets it apart from RYOBI is that the Makita battery has two built-in USB battery ports. It also clips to your pocket. Altogether it’s so much easier to transport than any of RYOBI’s options. To use, simply attach the Makita 18V LXT Power Source to a Makita 18V battery as you would attach any Makita power tool.

Additional Power Sources

Large Makita Power Sources

Makita does not offer a large “Makita OUTDOOR ADVENTURE” portable power solution, but there are Makita Portable Power Options and Generators. They range in price and style but generally are geared towards recharging Makita batteries.

Makita OUTDOOR ADVENTURE Portable Speakers

Makita OUTDOOR ADVENTURE Portable Fans

Makita OUTDOOR ADVENTURE Portable Lights

Misc. Makita OUTDOOR ADVENTURE Camping Essentials

If Makita went above and beyond it was with its specially designed for campers Makita OUTDOOR ADVENTURE camping amenities. These items include basic maintenance tools, coffee makers, coolers, tire inflators, etc.

Some items like the blower and wet/vac were designed to be compact and portable with camping in mind, while items like the coffee maker were designed to boost the “great outdoors” with the comforts of home.

Check out these items and let us know which you like most.

Who Wins: RYOBI vs Makita

This was a hard decision as the brands don’t perfectly compare side-by-side and there are trade-offs with each. However, after looking at each product’s versatility and utility it was clear who was the winner.

TIA Camping Essentials Winner: Makita OUTDOOR ADVENTURE

Yes, some Makita is more expensive than RYOBI, but the Makita OUTDOOR ADVENTURE line offered more exciting products and had more multiuse, which is a huge value add. Also, the lineup of equipment does give consumers a slightly more deluxe camping experience, almost turning your adventure into a, dare I say, “glamping” experience.

Still, RYOBI offers great products for weekend campers or hikers who just want to pack a few comfort items. Also, RYOBI had a lot more to offer in portable power options. However, we don’t consider the ability to power a TV an essential camping experience.

Your Favorite Camping Essentials

Do you own camping products from either of these brands? If so, tell us in the comments what you think of them and if you agree with us. Or share your favorite camping brand.

Welcome back to week two of 2023 TIA Holiday Gift Guides. Today’s gift guide is Gifts for Outdoorsy People. These are the people who would rather be camping than at a five star hotel, who enjoy nights by a campfire, and their favorite scent is the smell of fresh air.

Gifts for Outdoorsy People

The gifts on this list are meant to enhance time outside for your outdoorsy friends. Whether that is keeping them warm, helping them enjoy their favorite tunes, upgrading their travel equipment, there’s something here for all of them. These gifts for outdoorsy people range from as low as $9.99 to over $700.

Makita 18V Outdoor Adventure Line

To kickoff this list I’m starting with a collection I’ve been fangirling over for the past couple months: The Makita 18V Outdoor Adventure line. This line integrates Makita’s 18V battery system and tool technology into luxury camping equipment. I say luxury because a Makita lantern is going to cost more than your everyday camping lantern, but it’s also Bluetooth® and an FM radio, emits up to 310 lumens, and provides up to 16 hours of continuous light.

Everything in this line has a similar quality making it at least a step above your standard camping equipment. This line currently includes 18 items and they range from basic fans and lights to compact blowers and chainsaws. Aside from the lantern, my two other favorites in this 18-item line-up are the Makita 18V inflator and the Makita AC Cooler/Warmer.

However, any of these items are great gifts for the outdoorsy people in your life and will leave them feeling spoiled.

Vgogfly Slouchy Beanie for Men & Women

Gifts for Outdoorsy People

Now that you spent all your money on Makita Outdoor Adventure equipment let’s talk about a fantastic yet affordable gift for outdoorsy people. This beanie has a 4.5 rating and over 17k reviews. It’s form-fitting and designed to keep them warm. Available in 15 different colors and suitable for both men and women.

  • Amazon Review: “Love the weight and quality of the fabric. Fits perfectly without having to readjust constantly. Color is true to the picture. Definitely recommend.”
  • Where to Buy: Only $9.99 on Amazon.

HEYTRIP SUV Tailgate Tent with Awning Shade

Gifts for Outdoorsy People

Before I had an RV my husband and I would do big road trips in our car, often sleeping overnight in parking lots. Now, it was fun and our mad-dash style of traveling allowed us to see and do great things with limited time off. However, I would love to go back in time and give us more room to lounge in our downtime. This would have been the perfect road trip addition for my old Ford Focus.

  • Amazon Review: “This is one of the very few products I have ever bought that ended up way better than I expected. Back from a camping trip in the high desert. Super windy. So windy, my car side awning was pulverized! Yet, this thing was installed in less than 5 minutes without even looking at the instructions. And even with super strong gusts of wind, it never failed and stayed in place the whole time even at night. It really helps with car camping ventilation and providing rear access while keeping bugs, bees and wasps out. One day, lunch time, with the Arizona sun right above the car and zero shade, I was able to use the tailgate shade for my chair while the car is ventilated and stays way cooler.”
  • Where to Buy: $62.99 on Amazon – $83.99 regular price.

Bruntmor 7-piece Pre-Seasoned Cast Iron Camping Cook Set

Gifts for outdoorsy people

I think a lot of people get a good amount of joy from reverting back to the “old” and simple ways of doing things when they’re camping, or at least I do. Cooking a meal by fire with quality cast iron cookware is a great way to achieve this plus expand your self-reliance, which is ultimately the best gift you can get for your outdoorsy friend.

  • Amazon Review: “This is a wonder beginner set of cast iron cookware. My husband does a lot of re enactment camping. This was especially nice because it came in a wooden box that holds all of it!”
  • Where to Buy: $152.99 on Amazon, but on sale for $122.99.

JBL Go 3 Speaker

Gifts for Outdoorsy People

Yes, I know the sound of nature is a beautiful thing, but there’s a lot of it and it’s still nice to enjoy some music while you’re out on an adventure. This JBL Go 3 Speaker is a perfect gift for outdoorsy people because it’s compact, waterproof, dustproof, is impressively loud for its size, and provides up to five hours of tunes on a single charge.

  • Amazon Review: “It’s so easy to take anywhere with you and louder than you’d expect. Perfect for vacations”
  • Where to Buy: Various colors range from $37.95 to $46.49 on Amazon.

Telena Small Sling Crossbody Bag

Gifts for Outdoorsy People

I got this bag when I was traveling in my RV. I wanted something I could wear across the front or sling across my back. It had to allow me easy access to essentials like my phone, wallet, and keys. But also look nicer than the popular nylon-style LuLuLemon’ish chest bags. This bag was my solution and I have loved it.

This bag has two separate compartments plus a credit card and I.D. slot. It’s well constructed, easily adjustable, and the zippers have held up well over time. An added bonus is that it looks great whether I’m dressed up or casual.

I have this in the color “coffee” but it’s available in 39 different styles.

  • Amazon Review: “I purchased this purse for use on a trip to Dollywood. It is great quality and very pretty. It also held more items than I thought it would! Was perfect for my trip and looked great with every outfit. Very comfortable, too.”
  • My Review: In case you couldn’t tell, I love it. I love it when I’m camping, when I’m at the airport, or when I’m out for walks with my kids. It’s also great for when you’re going through the drive-thru or at an event. In fact, the bag being worn on my chest provides added security knowing that it’s much harder for someone to steal or pickpocket.
  • Where to Buy: Styles range from $15.99 – $20.79 on Amazon.

Nokta The Legend PRO Pack Metal Detector Set with Accupoint Pinpointer and Starter Accessory Package

Have you fantasized about finding buried treasure? Not going to lie, a metal detector is a gift I bought myself a few years back and it has been 100% worth it. In addition to the fun “buried treasure” types of finds I’ve had at places like the beach, it’s helped me locate a lost cellphone, keys, and more.

HitchSafe HS7000 Key Vault

Gifts for Outdoorsy People

“Secure Your Valuables – Enjoy Outdoor Activities Without Thinking Of Losing Your Keys, Cards Or Valuables.” Do have an apartment dweller on your list? This is a great option to hide an extra door key, so they never get locked out (again).

  • Amazon Review:Great Product – I got this to secure an extra car key in case I lose my keys on a business trip. Installation is a no-brainer, and product is extremely solid. Highly recommended.”
  • Where to Buy: $72.95 on Amazon.

RTIC Tumbler, 30 oz Tumbler Travel Mug

Every “drive day” in my family can’t start without each person’s special drink. This mug is stainless steel and comes with a lid. Perfect for hot or cold beverages so everyone can drink exactly what they need to get them going.

  • Amazon Review: “Great cup that I have held ice in for over 24 hours. My drinks stay cold all day. Fits in my hand nicely.”
  • Eric’s Review: I own two of these and they are great. I use them in the summertime for baseball and they hold ice for the three hours I am at the game. In wintertime, I use them for my hot chocolate when the boys have an outside hockey game.
  • Where to Buy: $19.98 on Amazon.

Microfiber Travel and Camping Towels, Ultra-Compact and Fast Drying

Gifts for Outdoorsy People

Available in 3 sizes and 13 colors. Do you have a gym rat, a beach lover, or a yogi on your list? Give them a few of these and they’ll think of you every time they use them. 4.4 Stars rating on Amazon from over 16,000 reviews.

  • Amazon Review: “I’m absolutely thrilled with my microfiber travel/camping towel! This little wonder has become an essential part of my outdoor adventures. Its compact size makes it incredibly convenient to pack, and I’m amazed by how quickly it absorbs moisture. I have bought many sizes of this product. I keep a medium towel in my car. I have a small one in my backpack when I travel. I used my first towel on a 3 week backpacking trip to Switzerland. It is awesome!”
  • Where to Buy: Available on Amazon for $9.99 – $20.99.

ALLCAMP Cooling Wine Tote & Picnic Set

Unique gifts for friends, coworkers and gift exchanges

Perfect for the wine-o always on the go!

Also, I like that this bag has an optional cooler compartment, so it’s good whether you are toting around red, white, or rose. It also comes with two glasses so your recipient can reenact the poison scene from The Princess Bride on their outings. That’s what normal people do, right?

This set carries one bottle, but there are nine total available styles with some carrying TWO bottles of wine.

  • Amazon Review: “This is a great bag. It looks great and it is functional as well. It is great one as a gift as well as for personal use. I love it. Great for vino or even other things you like to carry. Great bag”
  • Where to Buy: $26.99 on Amazon.

The Adventure Challenge Scratch-Off Books

Gifts for Outdoorsy People

The Adventure Challenge books make great gifts for outdoorsy people because each book is designed for a different type of adventurer. Whether you are a solo adventurer, a family of adventurers, or want to create new memories with your friends or make date night more exciting, there is an Adventure Challenge book for you.

  • Amazon Review: “I don’t know what I was expecting, but this is a high-quality book you will keep forever. The adventures are laid out so well and guide you to choose what works best for the time you have that day. I think the solo adventure concept is amazing because we all need a little prompting sometimes. I bought this for myself, but it would make a really nice gift because the book comes boxed and packaged so well.”
  • Where to Buy: Adventure Challenge books range from $36 to $60 on Amazon, but many are half off right now.

Tool in Action

Hi! It’s Kiaya again. In case you need a recap: I’m a TIA writer/editor who use to travel full-time in RV with my husband, two kids, and our big, hairy dog. I already gave you my Essentials for Full-Time RV Living. Today I’m sharing my list of RV Kitchen Essentials.

From RV Kitchen pots and pans to storage containers and s’more sticks, this list has everything you need to have a fully stocked and functional mobile kitchen. This list includes products I actually bought, plus a few items I wish I had.

I also share my favorite, easy RV meals and snacks, and items you do not need in your RV Kitchen. Here’s a snapshot of everything I’m sharing with you…

RV Kitchen Essentials

Alright, let’s start stocking your RV kitchen!

RV Kitchen Pots & Pans

At first glance, you think you can use all the same stuff in your RV kitchen as you do in your home kitchen – wrong! RV’s are mobile, and the cooking surfaces and storage tend to be smaller. All of these items were picked based on their size, quality, and durability.

CAROTE 11 pcs Non-stick White Granite Pots & Pans Set with Removeable Handles

RV Kitchen Essentials: space-saving pots and pans with removeable handles

Having enough space is the #1 struggle for RV’ers, especially in the kitchen. I bought these after my first week in the RV because the handles on my pots and pans were a storage nightmare.

I found this set after searching “detachable handle cookware”. The set had good reviews. I like that they were made from granite and not Teflon, and these pots and pans can be used on the stove, in the oven, or over an open campfire.

  • My Review: Great for an RV and great for a home kitchen. I’m super impressed with how well the non-stick has held up and the pans heat really evenly. These pots and pans being easy to store because of the removable handle is almost just a bonus with how good they are. I might be replacing my home kitchen pots and pans with these.
  • Video: Check it out on TikTok.
  • Where to Buy: The 11-piece set is only $69.99 on Amazon. Also available as 5, 10, 12 or 21-piece set, and color choices include white, red, blue, or multicolor.

4.5 qt. Lodge Enameled Dutch Oven

RV Kitchen Essentials: 4.5 qt lodge dutch oven

Not all RV’ers may encounter this problem, but our RV is more mid-level pricewise. The burners on our stove are smaller and the heat retention of cast iron has been essential for boiling pots of water and keeping pans hot throughout cooking.

  • My Review: Lodge is my favorite brand for Dutch ovens, but I have a confession…I have an Amazon Basics Dutch Oven in my RV. Technically, it performs fine. But the enamel chipped after only a month of use. It hasn’t affected my cooking…yet. But my Lodge Dutch Oven has been my go-to pot in my home kitchen for years and has no scuffs, chips or scratches even with heavy use.
  • Where to Buy: Normally $116.25 but on sale for $69.90 on Amazon.
  • Road Trip: Driving from Nashville to Atlanta, or vice versa? Stop at the Lodge Museum of Cast Iron, located between the two in South Pittsburg, TN.

MCIRCO 6 pcs Stainless Steel Baking Sheet with Rack and Silicone Baking Mat

RV Kitchen Essentials: 2-pack stainless steel baking sheets, silicone mats, and cooling racks

Measuring only 12.4 in. x 9.6 in. this baking sheet, mat and rack set will fit most RV ovens and cabinets.

  • My Review: I honestly use these every day in our RV. If I’m not using them in the oven, then I use one pan to hold ingredients before they go on the grill, then use the other when they come off. I also use them as platters. Because the size makes them so easy to clean this whole set still looks new!
  • Where to Buy: $21.99 on Amazon.
  • Storage Hack: I store my baking sheets, mats and racks with my similarly sized cutting boards in a $9 Mesh File Organizer from Target.

Which reminds me…

ROTTOGOON 3-piece Grooved Cutting Board Set with Vegetable Peeler

  • My Review: I LOVE a grooved cutting board. This set is also non-porous so it’s safe for preparing raw meat. Great set and still fits with my sheet pans inside my Target File Organizer that I keep them in.
  • Where to Buy: $24.99 on Amazon.

E-far 3 pcs Stainless Steel Baking Pan Set

I’m a casserole queen and I love to bake. This 3-pack of different-sized baking pans is perfect for all my baking needs. In the beginning, I tried to use my Pyrex. Nothing broke, every drive-day required prep to keep them safe, and it was too much anxiety.

  • My Review: Again, perfect. I went with the corrugated bottom, but they also have flat bottoms available. They’re lightweight and fit an RV oven.
  • Where to Buy: Available in flat bottom or corrugated on Amazon.

OXO Good Grips Silicone Baking Cups

Again, I have small children and one of them is incredibly picky. Being able to bake their treats I’d be 1) spending a fortune on store-bought snacks, and 2) not able to sneak nutrition into their favorite snacks.

However, I don’t have the space to accommodate all the different pans I need. I thought these stacking baking cups would be a great solution.

BLUE GINKGO Adjustable Over-the-Sink Colander Basket

My husband always tells me that his Italian Nana would be so proud of the amount of pasta I make him. That and I’m constantly washing fruit for my kids. A colander is an absolute essential for me and each time I try to go without one is just disastrous.

  • My Review: Stays in place, fits a variety of sinks, and shrinks up back small when you need to put it away.
  • Where to Buy: $19.99 on Amazon.

Progressive Intern Compact, Stackable Mandolin Slicer

Okay, maybe you don’t “need” a mandolin slicer, especially if you only camp a few weeks a year. However, I get really frustrated in the kitchen if I don’t have one. So, yes, to me this is essential, but this is also the best damn mandolin slicer and let me tell you why…

  • My Review: I like this more than my home kitchen mandolin slicer. It takes up so little space, plus it’s easier to use because it had a more ergonomic design and has its own little container to catch whatever you’re slicing.
  • Where to Buy: $34.99 on Amazon.

Outdoor RV Kitchen Essentials

An outdoor kitchen setup is just as important if not more important when spending time in an RV. It’s a great way to spend time outside and more spacious than cooking inside your RV.

These outdoor RV kitchen essentials will ensure you have a fully operational outdoor kitchen whether you’re cooking for one or for a crowd.

Coleman Roadtrip Portable Foldable Grill

Some RV’s come with an outdoor kitchen, ours does not. I actually prefer that because you actually get to choose your grill. My husband also prefers open-air grilling compared to grilling up close to the RV.

  • My Review: This grill folds up perfectly to fit in the RV’s “basement”. You’ll actually see a lot of these grills at campsites because they are so convenient. My other RV’ing family member also has one of these and loves it. So far, this Coleman Roadtrip Grill has served us well.
  • Cons: This grill is a little small. It works for us, but the size is something to consider if you have a larger family.
  • Where to Buy: Various models and colors available between $160 to $250 on Amazon or at The Home Depot.
  • Accessories: Browse on Amazon.

16 oz. Coleman Propane Canisters

Remember how I mentioned you’ll see the portable Coleman Roadtrip Grills at every campsite? Well, you can also find the Coleman 16 oz. Propane Canisters at nearly every campsite store, but for a steep mark-up. Save money and buy ahead.

  • Where to Buy: Multiple packs available on Amazon.

Milwaukee 40 qt. PACKOUT XL Cooler

A good cooler is essential for the avid RV’er for multiple reasons. You will need one for the road trips. Also, RV fridges can be quite small. It’s great to have extra room, or even a place to hold drinks when you camp with friends or host gatherings.

  • My Review: Honestly, you just need a cooler. But I LOVE my Milwaukee 40 qt. PACKOUT XL. The cold retention is insane. It has kept ice cold all day in the sun on the 4th of July. I love the dry basket, the removable cutting board, plus more features. I also wrote about how much I love this cooler in my previous TIA RV Supplies article.
  • TIA Review: Milwaukee 40 qt. PACKOUT XL Cooler Review
  • Where to Buy: $249 (on sale for $199) at The Home Depot.

Kitchpop 10-piece Sheathed Knife Set

Knife storage is one of the more complicated issues in an RV (especially if you have little kids). I actually just have a sheathed pairing knife for my cooler, and keep the rest of my kitchen knives in a roll bag (more on this “Kitchen & Food”). However, this set is affordable, and all your knives are protected no matter how you store them.

  • Amazon Review: “Bought these for our camper. Perfect variety of sizes. Bright colors are pretty and help make it easier to identify the one you’re looking for in the limited space in a draw. Covers slide on and fit well making them safe to throw in a drawer.”
  • Where to Buy: $14.99 with Amazon Prime.

Cast Iron Outdoor Kitchen Camping Set

This is an item still on my wishlist, but I’ve spent a lot of time researching outdoor kitchen camping sets. I like this one because it has a good variety, plus a durable case to hold all that heavy cast iron cookware.

  • Amazon Review: words
  • Where to Buy: Sets range from $60 to $150 on Amazon.

Jolly Green Campfire Roasting Sticks for S’mores and more

I have kids and I’m addicted to s’mores. Plus, doesn’t everyone get a weird joy over roasting even simple foods like hotdogs on a stick?

  • My Review: Again, biased but love these. They are telescopic so they don’t take up much space when not in use and it comes with their own carrying case. They are also constructed well and don’t fall apart after only a few uses.
  • Where to Buy: $32.97 on Amazon.

Back to list

RV Kitchen Food & Drink Accessories

Your RV kitchen essentials extend beyond what you need to cook. Your additional food and drink supplies and accessories need to be durable, yet lightweight, space-conscious, and more. These food and drink accessories address all of these concerns.

Wrova Wheat Straw Plates, Bowls & Drinkware

With a mobile home you want to limit glass, that includes plates and drinkware. If you camp only a few weeks out of the year you can get away with paper plates, but I really hated how much waste that would create when we lived in our RV full-time. To be honest, I used vintage McDonald’s plastic plates. Those are obviously no longer commercially available.

Instead, I choose a durable wheat tableware. Wheat straw is a plastic alternative that is microwave and dishwasher safe.

  • Amazon Review: “These plates are great! They are a perfect size for much of what I do in the kitchen. They fit great in the dishwasher and come out really clean. I didn’t really know what I was getting when I bought them, but they are perfect for whatever I need them for!”
  • Where to Buy: Shop Wrova Wheat Straw Tableware on Amazon.

Amazon Basics 10-piece Airtight Square Storage Containers (OXO dupe)

  • My Review: I use these containers to hold everything from my flour and sugar to all my kids’ snacks. The largest container actually works great as a cookie jar, and I often use the smaller ones to dump the second half of a bag of chips and such into so they don’t go stale before my family can finish them (no matter how long we forget about them).
  • Where to Buy: Amazon Basics 10-piece set for only $63.54 on Amazon (on sale for $47.54). Compare that to OXO 10-piece Square Storage Set for $109.

60-piece Heat-Safe Deli Containers with Lids, Variety Pack

For an RV you need food storage containers that are durable yet lightweight and don’t take up a lot of space. Deli containers are perfect because they are designed to survive heavy use in the food industry, plus they are heat-safe. When staying in an RV it’s also great to have items that are multi-use, which the size variety gives you.

  • My Review: These are my favorite food storage containers, hands down. I use these to hold hot items, freeze items, hold dry ingredients, hold my kids’ snacks. I even use one of the smaller ones as my butter tub. The size variety creates so many uses. Plus they are easy to clean, nestled inside of each other, and 60 containers and lids weigh about the same as a feather. Plus, they’re dirt cheap!
  • Where to Buy: Get out of Tupperware hell for only $23 from Amazon.

Amazon Basics Magnetic Knife Wall Storage

Again, with an RV you have to be creative with your storage. A knife drawer wasn’t an option because 1) not enough space, and 2) it would have been too easy for my kids to access. The wall magnet was a great solution because it’s compact, up high enough so my kids can’t access it, and made use of the wasted space on the wall behind the stove.

  • My Review: I’m honestly shocked by how strong the magnet is. The magnet has been a great way to safely store my knives yet access them easily throughout our stay at campgrounds.
  • Where to Buy: Only $25.99 from Amazon Basics.

Knife Roll Bag

Now, I got a knife roll bag because I was too paranoid to leave my knives mounted during drive-days, but it’s genuinely a nice way to store your knives. If you’re not using a knife drawer then I recommend a knife roll bag because it will keep your knives confined and protected when not in use.

  • My Review: My Terrev Chef Knife Roll Bag was perfect for the amount and type of knives I owned. The buckles did a great job at holding the knives in place during even bumpy drives, and all of my knives are still in great condition.
  • Where to Buy: Unfortunately, my knife roll bag is not currently available, but there are tons of knife roll bags available on Amazon.

Faridabio Compact Silverware Drawer Organizer

Again, storage is always your main concern in an RV. This silverware organizer is great because it allows you to layer your silverware in a way that is accessible and functional.

  • My Review: This silverware organizer allowed me to clear up a whole other drawer. It’s honestly such a better way to store your silverware. It is a little harder to tell what’s in each slot if you don’t know. But I will probably upgrade my home drawer storage to this.
  • Where to Buy: Less than $20 on Amazon.

Adhesive Paper Towel Roll Holder

In general, most of the items you will mount will be adhesive. We’ve had pretty good luck with all of the adhesive items we’ve attached. What you need will depend on your RV setup. Personally, with the kids, my life falls apart real quick when I’m out of paper towels and I just assume everyone needs them as much as I do.

  • My Review: Our adhesive paper towel roll holder has held on throughout all our travels. The adhesive backing has also allowed us to easily install it in a space-saving space that might not have worked with traditional installation.
  • Where to Buy: Multiple styles to choose from for less than $15 on Amazon.

Back to list

RV Kitchen Pantry Essentials

Here is a quick, bulleted list of some items I recommend you keep in your pantry along with my reasons why.

  • Bouillon CubesPersonally, Better Than Bouillon is my favorite bouillon brand, but the glass and required refrigeration doesn’t work for RV life. I know, it’s sad. But I can live with this sacrifice.
  • RamenA boondocking staple. Our go-to drive-day/boondocking dinner is grilled cheese and ramen, with the ramen served in my favorite deli containers.
  • Fresh garlicNot everyone is a busy mom that loves the jarred garlic for adding some quick and easy flavor to dishes, but I am. However, like the Better Than Bouillon jars, jarred garlic can be problematic. So skip it.
  • Dry SeasoningsThis will vary from person to person. But I suggest limiting yourself to your top 10 favorite seasonings. My favorites are: garlic powder, onion powder, cumin, Italian seasoning, cayenne, seasoning salt, lemon pepper, and obviously salt & pepper.
  • Shelf-Stable Milk: Not “essential”, but honestly great to have on hand. Drive-days can be stressful and heading to the store for pantry stables is usually the last thing you want to do after finally arriving at your campsite. My favorite brand is LALA.
  • Popcorn Kernels: I come from a family of popcorn fiends and I enjoy making stovetop popcorn with the kids. Plus, it’s great for camping and RV’ing. The only items you need are your Lodge Dutch Oven, oil, butter, and salt.

Back to list

Final RV Kitchen Recommendations

A few final words of wisdom regarding your RV Kitchen include…

  • Skip the Slow Cooker: Unless your RV has a ton of counter space or you can plug it in outside, the slow cooker was a hassle.
  • Plan & Make Drive-Day Meals Ahead of Time: Especially if you have a slide, you’ll just be fumbling around. You also don’t want to create an annoying amount of dishes. Just prep your food ahead of time and enjoy your driving breaks.
  • Airfryer vs RV Oven: RV ovens are kind of finicky and don’t have a ton of space as is. A good airfryer could work in place of a traditional oven in case you are looking at models without one or are planning a renovation. The biggest factor is whether you plan to boondock, which a gas oven might be a better option. But if you plan to always use electrical hook-ups you can trade-in your oven for an airfryer and more cabinet space.

RV Kitchen Wrap-up

That’s about all I can think of when it comes to RV kitchen essentials.

If you’re an avid RV’er let me know if I missed anything. Better yet, tell me what your go-to drive-day and boondocking meals and snacks are.

Hi, I’m Kiaya and I’m new writer/editor at TIA. Prior to joining the team, my family and I were traveling the country full-time in an RV. Today, I’m sharing my Essentials for Full-Time RV Living with you. These are tools, gadgets, tips and tricks I learned on the road that make living full-time in a camper or RV easier. However, you will still appreciate these items even if you’re a casual or weekend traveler.

Essentials for Full-Time RV Living Guide

Our Rig For Full-Time RV Living

Essentials for Full-time RV Living: family stands in front of their Ford Expedition, which is connected to their travel trailer at Bonelli Bluffs Campground in San Dimas, CA.

First, I’d like to share a little bit about my family and our RV setup. I’m doing this because each RV situation is unique. Therefore, each RV’er has different priorities and this list will reflect some of ours.

So, our camper is a 27 ft. KZ Connect travel trailer that we hook up to our 2008 Ford Expedition. My husband and I chose a travel trailer because we have two small kids and a large dog that we travel with. The most important factor was safety, and passengers traveling in the tow vehicle is dramatically safer than as a passenger in a Class A Motorhome. Our setup is long, but the space in Expedition provides plenty of room for all the road snacks and toys we need, and our 90 lb. Alaskan Malamute enjoys his space. Plus, we can detach and travel freely.

Our setup was more geared towards stays at campsites with full hookups. We actually love staying in more remote and off-grid locations. However, we needed stable internet and electric for work reasons. In the future I’ll make sure to share with you “My RV Essentials for Boondocking“.

Last, we did not splurge on a “deluxe” RV, which are practically traditional homes on wheels. Nothing against those RV’s, but we knew our full-time RV plans were limited to a max of one year. Our RV was great for the traveling we did and plan to do. However, the higher grade RV’s have better kitchen equipment, more storage, and even laundry options which did impact this list!

Again, a lot of these items are recommended for any part-time or full-time RV living situation. However, a few items are more specific to those in similar RV situations.

Alright, on to the list!

RV Equipment for Full-Time RV Living

These are my family’s essential RV and Camper equipment that is designed for RV’s and campers. Most of these items can be found in camping stores and even campsites, but are more affordable online.

50 ft. 30 or 50 AMP Power Cord. Because admit it, we like our modern conveniences. Essential for using power hookups.

Full-Time RV Living Essentials: 50 ft. 30 or 50 amp power cord

Some notes: Extra length is always better than not enough. Our camper and ones smaller than ours only need a 30 AMP power cord. However, larger fifth wheel travel trailers and motorhomes will need a 50 AMP power cord.

Don’t forget: Your 30 AMP Power Adapter Cord or 50 AMP Power Adapter Cord.

Voltage Regulator & Surge Protector to avoid blown circuits or damage to your electrical system.

Essentials for Full-Time RV Living: voltage regulator

Similar to power cords, you’ll need a voltage regulator that matches your RV’s power supply. Voltage Regulators & Surge Protectors prevents an oversupply of energy transferring to your RV and the damage that can come with that.

Check out 30 Amp Voltage Regulators and 50 Amp Voltage Regulators on Amazon.

RV Hook-up Hoses, and lots of them

Essentials for Full-Time RV Living: fresh water hose, grey water hose, sewage hose, heated water hose

RV Hoses are not exciting, but the quality of your full-time RV living experience depends on them. Here are a few hoses you’ll need and why. Also, my general recommendation is to go with longer hoses. It’s always better to have more length than not enough!

  • Fresh Water Hose: You need this if you want water for your sinks, bathing, etc. You don’t need to be picky and any Fresh Water Hose on Amazon to do the job.
  • Clean-Out Hose: Whatever goes in must come out. This hose carries out all your grey water (sink water, shower water, etc.). Again, you don’t need to be picky with this product, but this 25 ft. Camco Clean-Out Hose on Amazon will do the job.
  • Sewer Hose: This hose is self-explanatory. It’s for emptying out your black water tank. DO NOT skimp on length, and this 20 ft. Camco RhinoFLEX Sewer Hose should suffice. Also, DO NOT FORGET your sewer hose supports!
  • Heated Water Hose: Optional, but a lifesaver. Temps can drop below freezing even in the desert (particularly at night). I learned the hard way that if your fresh water hose freezes it can break your hose and your water filter, and heated water hoses are expensive and have a BIG markup in brick-and-mortar camping store. Save money, buy one online. If only using as needed, you can go with a shorter hose, like this 25 ft. Camco Heated Water Hose.

RV/Camper Water Filter & Hose Protector to go with your fresh water hose and remove that sulfur, well-water scent.

Essentials for Full-Time RV Living: water filter

Honestly, I can’t believe how great these things work. They have a pretty good life too. Casually RV’ers probably need one a season, full-time RV’ers need to change it out every three months.

Available at most campsites, but for a nice markup. Save money and stock up on Amazon.

RV Leveling Blocks so you’re not living on a slope every time you park.

Essentials for Full-Time RV Living: stabilizing blocks

Use these to create a level base for your camper. Check out a RV Leveling Block Tutorial on YouTube.

You can find our same RV Leveling Blocks on Amazon, except this one has a nifty carrying case (jealous).

X Camper Wheel Chocks for another level of stability when you’re parked.

Essentials for Full-Time RV Living: x-wheel chock stabalizer

These fit between your RV wheels. They expand to get a good grip on the tires to prevent them from moving while docked.

Browse a variety of brands and styles on Amazon.

Small RV Back-Up Battery to get you through power outages.

Full-Time RV Living Essentials: small back-up rv battery

A back-up battery is not for boondocking/off-grid RV-ing. This battery simply allows you to pull in your slides, awning, and operate your hitch in case your battery fails.

This small, lightweight 12V 18Ah ExpertPower Replacement Battery is only $46.99 is perfect for saving you in a pinch.

Wheel Lift/Ramp for Trailers. Did I mention we had a tire blowout on our first trip? Wish we had this.

Essentials for Full-Time RV Living: wheel ramp for trailers

We liked this Trailer Wheel Ramp because it has a ramp on each side and a rest in the center.

Here is another Trailer Wheel Lift option available on Amazon.

Disposable Latex Gloves for the dirty parts of RV living (ex. anything “sewage” related).

Essentials for Full-Time RV Living: latex gloves

Any brand of latex gloves on Amazon will work. I looked for fancy ones. They don’t exist.

RV Slide-Out & Window Lubricant to avoid mishaps and frustrations.

Full-Time RV Living Essentials: RV Slide-Out & Window Lubricant

You can buy these products individually, but Amazon sells this RV Slide-Out & Window Lubricant combo for only $20.49.

Trailer Ball Grease for travel trailers and fifth wheels.

Full-Time RV Living Essentials: Trailer Ball Grease

Keeping your trailer hitch greased protects your ball hitch from damage, makes towing easier, prevents towing accidents, and overall extends the life of your hitch.

Shop for on Amazon.

Back to List

Tools for Full-Time RV Living

These are the everyday tools I recommend you keep in your camper. They will help you out with day-to-day maintenance and common mishaps. You can also find these tools in your local hardware store or possibly in your garage.

Tire Pressure Gauge, the single most important tool every RV’er needs!

Full-Time RV Living Essentials: pencil tire pressure gauge, two-pack

Good RV maintenance is obsessing over your tire pressure, at least before every drive. Driving with properly inflated tires is an essential safety measure, and just makes your driving smoother and more fuel-efficient.

You could invest in a RV Tire Pressure Monitoring System, but this basic Pencil Tire Pressure Gauge Two-Pack for $9.99 on Amazon is all you need.

SKIL PWR CORE 12 Compact Tire Inflator to address tire pressure concerns on the spot.

Full-Time RV Living Essentials: SKIL tire inflator

Eric actually gifted me this when I mentioned one of our RV tires went flat in storage. This SKIL Tire Inflator fixed the problem and we used it on our most recent trip. It’s now one of my husband’s favorite tools.

Get this SKIL Tire Inflator on Amazon.

CRAFTSMAN Tool Set makes a great RV Tool Box. It has all your essential tools for the odd fix here and there.

Essentials for Full-Time RV Living: CRAFTSMAN 102-piece Hand Tools Kit

The vibration from traveling will shake some fixtures loose. We’ve also used hand tools to repair hinges and secure items to walls and surfaces. This CRAFTSMAN 102-Piece Tool Set has a great variety of hand tools that will address most issues. Plus, it comes with its own carrying case.

102-piece CRAFTSMAN hand tools for only $109 on Amazon.

A Caulk Gun and Caulk to fix inevitable leaks and cracks.

Essentials for Full-Time RV Living: Caulk Gun

Cracks and leaks, particularly in the roof of your RV, are inevitable due to the vibration from travel. In fact, you should be inspecting the top of your RV every 30 days during high-use seasons. A Caulk Gun is enough for minor cracks, or can hold you over until repairs can be made.

Shop Caulk Guns on Amazon.

A Level to ensure your RV is, well…level!

Full-Time RV Living Essentials: 3 pack level kit

You’ll need to level your RV every time it is parked. Obviously a level essential to full-time RV living from a comfort perspective. It’s easier to walk around and prevents items from falling and rolling away (or worse, under a slide). A level RV also allows items like your refrigerator to operate optimally.

Again, you don’t need to be picky about the level you pick. We like Milwaukee levels at TIA, but most levels on Amazon will do. I suggest getting a longer, about 3 ft. level, or a 3-pack level pack.

RYOBI Drill/Impact Driver Combo will be your Go-To RV power tool.

Essentials for Full-Time RV Living: RYOBI Drill Impact Combo

You don’t need a ton of power tools, but a drill/impact combo is a great power tool to have in your RV tool kit. It will help with random repairs, tire changes, and quickly adjust your stabilizers.

You obviously can use your own tools or preferred brand. However, I recommend keeping an affordable brand in your RV supplies. RYOBI provides quality at a fair price.

Shop RYOBI Drill & Impact Combo Kits on Amazon.

Wire Strippers/Crimpers for all your electrical repairs and additions.

Essentials for Full-Time RV Living: Wire Stripper/Crimper Combo

You’ll need these for repairing or adding outlets, and adding additional batteries to your battery bank.

This MulWark 8 in. Wire Stripper/Crimper Combo is only $20 on Amazon.

Tire Iron for tire repairs and changes.

Full-Time RV Living Essentials: tire iron

You absolutely need a tire iron if you hope to have a good time living in an RV full-time or part-time. In fact, a lot of weekend RV’ers like to getaway in more remote locations that can be harder to reach repair services and roadside assistance. A tire iron enables you to tackle these problems on your own.

Shop Tire Irons on Amazon.

Voltmeter to check out electrical issues in your RV.

Full-Time RV Living Essentials: voltmeter/multimeter

Watch the Basic Uses of a Multimeter for RV’ers on YouTube.

Voltmeters range from $8 to $50 on Amazon.

Ratchet Straps for the unexpected.

Full-Time RV Living Essentials: Husky 4 pack ratchet straps

Use ratchet straps to secure items to your tow vehicle, your RV, pull/hold your slide in during motor issues, and more.

I’ll admit it, our ratchet straps are an assortment of ones my husband has collected over the years. Frankly, we should replace them.

Eric wrote this Husky Ratchet Tie-Downs Review. Buy the same Husky Ratchet Tie-Down 4-Pack for $16.97 from The Home Depot.

Rechargeable LED Headlamps come in handy day or night.

Full-Time RV Living Essentials: rechargeable LED headlamps two pack

Our rechargeable LED headlamps are one of our most used items. We use them a lot when taking supplies out of the RV storage areas (AKA “the basement”), for walks at night, and even while grilling.

Our favorite Rechargeable LED Headlamps are available as a 2-Pack ($20) or 4-Pack ($40) on Amazon.

Pocket Knife for endless uses.

Full-Time RV Living Essentials: utility knife

Cut things, open things, use it to look cool and feel tough. Pocket and utility knives have infinite uses that aren’t specific to RV’s, but you should still have one.

Propane Tank Gauges to detects fuel level, leaks, and so you’re not running out of gas in the middle of the night or while cooking dinner.

Full-Time RV Living Essentials: propane tank gauges two-pack

Most RV’s have two propane tanks to power at least your heat, your oven, and even your fridge while boondocking. This Propane Gauge & Leak Detector 2-Pack for $25.99 will keep you up-to-date on your propane levels.

Household Essentials for Full-Time RV Living

Alright, now it’s time to talk about the full-time RV living essentials that impact your daily life. These are common household products. However, they are either small enough, adaptable, or used in a way that simplifies some common RV living problems.

Shark Cordless Handheld Vacuum. It’s powerful, small, and has multiple attachments for cleaning your RV.

Essentials for Full-Time RV Living: shark cordless handheld vacuum

We brought two vacuums with us. This handheld vacuum was supposed to just be for cleaning our car, but I actually liked this small Shark Cordless Handheld Vacuum better than our larger vacuum. It was easier to store and honestly easier to clean weird places like under the dinette and under the slide. PLUS, it’s rechargeable and cordless, which is absolutely essential in my opinion.

$99.99 on Amazon, currently on sale for $89.99.

Libman Wet/Dry Microfiber Mop to clean debris and easy, electricity-free wet or dry cleanup.

Essentials for Full-Time RV Living: libman wet/dry mop

It’s great to have a cord-free, electricity-free sweeping option. This Libman Wet/Dry Microfiber Mop also fits underneath slides well.

Mop plus two extra microfibers pads for $42.99 on Amazon.

Also: I like to put my floor cleaner in a squeeze bottle for easy use.

SEYVUM 20V Leaf Blower for easy outdoor cleanup.

Essentials for Full-Time RV Living: 20V leaf blower

I don’t care how nice your RV is. The outdoors are your living room when you’re staying in an RV. Use a cordless leaf blower to remove leaves and debris. Also great for easy cleanup on drive days.

You don’t need a super powerful leaf blower. I like this SEYVUM 20V Leaf Blower for only $79.99 on Amazon.

KEEPJOY Hanging Laundry Hamper, because clothes pile up fast in a small RV.

Essentials for Full-Time RV Living: hanging laundry hamper

Laundry piles up fast, especially in a small RV. We hung this hamper inside our bathroom door and it keeps laundry out of the way. The zipper on the bottom makes it easy to move clothes into a laundry basket.

I love it so much I’m getting two more for each of my kids rooms.

Only $16.99 on Amazon.

Storage Bins & Boxes…and lots of them!

Essentials for Full-Time RV Living: decorative storage baskets

We use decorative storage bins throughout our RV for a sense of order. The most important one in my opinion is the shoe bin we keep outside. This helps keep dirt and debris outside.

Shop Storage Bins & Boxes on Amazon.

Outdoor Camping Rug to Complete Your Outdoor Space

Camping rugs make it nicer to step outside barefoot, define your space, and just get into “vacation mode” easier. They’re also easy to clean and fold-up and store.

We recommend buying two (or more) 6 ft. x 9 ft. outdoor rug instead of one larger one. This way you can customize the orientation to your RV site.

Shop Outdoor/Camping Rugs on Amazon.

OUTDOOR LIVING SUNTIME Padded Folding Chair for ultimate comfort.

Essentials for Full-Time RV Living: padded folding chair

Feel free to use whatever chairs you want or already own. However, if you’re living in an RV full-time then I encourage you to splurge on these ultra comfortable folding chairs.

Have little ones? We loves these Camping Chairs for Boys and Girls from Walmart.

Batteries, all kinds.

Essentials for Full-Time RV Living: battery variety pack

You’ll find yourself using a lot more battery-powered products when you live full-time in an RV. Honestly, it’s just easier. Outlets are limited, or you need to conserve power when boondocking. It just makes sense.

Shop Batteries on Amazon.

“Drive Day” Essentials for Full-Time RV Living

This list is small, but these are a few of my favorite items for RV “drive days”.

Milwaukee 40 qt. Packout Cooler to keep drinks and food cold on drive day.

Essentials for Full-Time RV Living: milwaukee 40 qt. packout cooler

This may seem like overkill, but I love this thing. First, it has tons of space for cold storage, a generous dry storage bin, a cutting board that doubles as a divider, and the cold retention is incredible.

Read our TIA Milwaukee 40 qt. Packout Cooler Review.

On sale for $399.99 on Amazon. Save $109!

I also keep a Sheathed Pairing Knife in my cooler.

10 oz. YETI Rambler to keep your hot drinks hot and your cold drink cold.

Essentials for Full-Time RV Living: 10 oz yeti rambler

Personal Review: my husband ran over this with the camper. It got pushed into the ground but didn’t even crack. It’s the perfect rough and tough travel companion.

Choose from 24 colors on Amazon.

napfun Travel Neck Pillow to encourage naps and prevent achy necks.

Essentials for Full-Time RV Living: travel neck pillow

Only $21.99 on Amazon.

Final Word on Full-Time RV Living

Well, that rounds out my list on all the things you really need for comfortable full-time RV living. If the idea of full-time RV-ing has been on your mind then I hope this list gives you some courage towards taking that step. Some of my family’s best memories were made on the road. Even if you just want to be a weekend RV’er, I promise the memories on the short trips are just a sweet. Plus, now you have an awesome list to keep the good times rolling! Pun intended.

Alright, how’d I do? Any RV’ers out there? Did I miss something?
